First There Was SimCity. Then The Sims. Is SimOcean Next?

Electronic Arts is letting Maxis make more Sim titles that aren’t expansion packs to the virtual dollhouse series The Sims. SimCity built with the GlassBox engine is slated for release in 2013. And after that… maybe we’ll get SimOcean.

Electronic Arts filed a trademark for SimOcean in Europe for use with video games. Before getting into The Sims (insert fashion line here), Maxis made all kinds of simulation games like SimHealth, SimEarth, SimLife, SimCopter, and the precursor to The SimsSimAnt. SimOcean would be brand new and pretty neat if Maxis added an ecosystem with giant user created sea monsters to play with.

  • I’m starting think they are running out of ideas.

  • I’m calling this a fake. Where’s the link to the listing? No link = possible fake.

    • Code

It’s on Siliconera so it’s not fake o3o~ The reason a source link wasn’t posted is likely because you can’t directly link to OAMI-ONLINE trademark database entries.

You can search it yourself easily though, Trademark No. 010838308. Any ways Siliconera is pretty much as creditable as it gets o3o~

I don’t think they are running out of ideas at all…. Let’s consider this: One of their most successful /and/ best games was SimEarth. Which has plenty of SimOcean elements. Go look it up if you want to play a good Sim game.

    SimTower and SimAnt.

    Bring those back!

    And SimLife and Sim Earth…

SimSafari and SimAnt were amazing games back in the day.

Nostalgia overload. I loved all the Sim(insert random thing here) games Maxis were making all the time back in the 90s. Hoping this turns out good but after being burned by The Sims 3 I can’t help but feel sceptical of EA these days.

Eh, how good it is is directly correlated to how much they swamp the user in micromanagement. Ive always seen it as one of Maxis’s biggest downfalls. A fine level of detailling is awesome to have, just dont bog the user down in it unless they WANT to.
