Rise: Bust Out An Easy Combo By Mashing A, Hit A&B To Do An All Out Attack

By Spencer . May 1, 2012 . 11:35am

Atlus released a tutorial video that teaches players the Persona 4: The Arena basics. You can do an auto combo by repeatedly hitting A, press B+D to do a counterattack, and hit ACD for a Burst attack. Bursts send an opponent flying across the screen and interrupt combos.

The commands Teddie and Rise discuss are shared by all of the fighters in Persona 4: Arena. Of course, each character has unique moves with BlazBlue style commands too. By the way did Teddie sound different to anyone?

Here’s a clip from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 for comparison.

Blame the actor for his schedule than the company.
ATLUS USA did say that they’d try to get the original VO cast.

  • Seems like Yuri Lowenthall is now doing Teddie’s voice. What a shame.

    • Hraesvelgr

I like Yuri Lowenthal and all (blasphemy, I know), but I dunno, that was pretty hard to listen to.

    • Sounds more like Krillin to me.

Anyway, this new Teddie is awful. Thankfully, a Atlus USA guy on another forum said Chie and Teddie should be the only changes to the cast.

    • And, it sounds like he’s trying to make a Girl voice…

I don’t think I would stand P4 Golden dub if it’s going to be like that

    • KingTsundere

       Correction: It’s Sam Riegal

  • Guess they couldn’t get the original voice actor for some reason. Chie’s voice is confirmed to be different as well, so I’m curious how she sounds too.

    • Rishtopher

Oh man, Chie’s VA isn’t coming back? I’m pretty disappointed, she was gonna be my main. Dual Audio to the rescue I guess.

      • Hraesvelgr

As far as I’m concerned, it’s good riddance to Chie’s old voice. I tend to prefer consistency, but she was just plain bad. I’m not the biggest fan of Erin Fitzgerald, but she is infinitely superior to Chie’s old voice.

        • Dantis

She gets way too much hate. Personally I thought she was great.

          • Hraesvelgr

A lot of her lines were pretty poorly delivered, I thought, but it doesn’t seem like her VA is inherently bad. The VO reel on her website mostly sounds better than her work as Chie.

        • Rishtopher

Honestly, I don’t pay enough attention to the names behind the voices. Like you, I just prefer consistency. That said, I really liked Chie’s old voice. I thought it fit perfectly fine. I’ll wait to see if Erin can deliver an objectively better portrayal though.

          • Hraesvelgr

Well, I’m not a fan of Erin’s Sync (Tales of the Abyss) or Alkaid (.hack), but I’ll still take that chance over the old English Chie.

  • Heidenroslein

    Teddie NOOOO!!! D’:

I wonder if this means that Yuri Lowenthall will also be voicing Teddie in the Persona 4 remake.

  • You’ll be missed real Teddie… ;_;

  • Ugh, that new voice tries too hard to nail the old one with pretty bad results. That’s a real shame. I hope the rest of the cast doesn’t share this fate. I’d rather someone try their own thing if they can’t mimic their original.

  • MrKappa

Hope Sam is just filling in for this tutorial or something. I never really liked Teddie all too much but Dave was perfect for his voice.

  • Dantis

Is that Yuri Lowenthall doing Teddie…?

    Wittenberg was miles better.

    • I think it’s Bryce Papenbrook

      • D-Rev

        Same Riegel

  • Man, this game just makes me really want P4 the golden to come out.  I kind of like the new VA. Makes him a bit less annoying.

  • Herok

so when the game comes to consoles will the buttons be in the same spot they are in for blazblue?

  • From what I heard, only Teddie and Chie voice have changed.

  • jc0111

    Aw man… they couldn’t get Dave Wittenberg ? A shame…

Glad to hear Laura Bailey as Rise though.

  • RmanX1000

At least they didnt get a shitty voice actor. Wont be the same but its not all bad.

  • vileBrenman

the new voice and old voice for teddy are pretty similar. the new one sounds more yusuke though but thats probably because its the same voice actor

  • SilentSchemer

Im so confused. I thought I was going crazy for a minute there because I know for a fact the first clip was not Teddie’s original voice. Damn though, its been so long since I played Persona 4 and after seeing Persona4 The Animation Im used to Teddie’s JP voice.

  • The new voice for teddy seems to high pitch the old voice was better. Well we gonna miss the old voice actor.

  • Watahashi

Just a note to clear up the confusion, Sam Riegel is doing Teddie’s voice now.

    • Dantis

Where was it confirmed? I thought it sounded like Yuri Lowenthal.

    • Hraesvelgr

Hmm, yeah, after listening to it again, you’re right.

  • Linhua

    … oh no… Teddie… T^T … wh-what happened to your other voice box…

… at least Rise is still original… at least .-. I think she is… is my ears playing tricks on me or is that really still Laura…?

… either way… in the end… they couldn’t get everybody… *sigh* … thank you so much for trying though, Atlus.

    • takopako

im pretty sure it was laura. :P

  • Didn’t Sentai Filmworks say Wittenburg wasn’t going to be reprising his role already? I know that was for them talking about the animation but lo’ and behold, he’s not teddie anymore.

  • TheSquishyTanker

This pretty much confirmed me cancelling my pre-order.
Chie’s voice getting changed was bad enough, but Teddie? No.

    • AnimeRemix

Just because of two voice changes? Never knew it could be that serious…

      • TheSquishyTanker

Well, considering that Persona 4 is probably one of my all time favorite games of all time, and that I have learned to love and get used to the character’s voices through various play throughs, it is that serious. To me, at least.

  • ryne11

Soooooooooooooo… umm………… anyone interested in discussing the content of the trailer itself rather than the voices? (Well, if you ignore that it is pretty much the Japanese trailer with English Rise and Teddie)

Like ” LOL the simplified fighting is foor n00bs” or “There is a lot of potential depth even for those not well versed in fighting games”…

    • SpecDotSign

Seriously. I’m concerned. I hope that there is a non-easy input mode. I love me some competitive fighting games.

  • I guess I´m in the minority here, his new voice didn´t annoy me at all.

It´s a good thing the tutorial looks simple enough to guide people not familiar with the basic mechanics, specially considering this game is a fighting game and its prequel is an RPG.

    Oh, and everything looks awesome.

  • takopako

that sounded like some good old fashioned laura bailey, but…my teddie… :( his soothing voice wont be there to keep me playing…

  • I’m glad they got Laura Bailey back, although after watching all the Japanese videos and watching the anime its a little weird going back to English.

Teddie’s voice I can get used to, as far as voices go for persona games I still think Fuuka’s is the most cringe worthy and I got used to her voice.

and while I thought Tracy was alright, there were some times I cringed at some of the dialogue and I’m willing to give Erin a chance.

as far as the controls go, they appear to be easy to learn but enough depth so as to give some epic fights and challenges.

  • Strain42

…Literally hundreds of videos you could’ve picked to showcase Teddie’s original voice, and you go with the MASSIVE SPOILER one? Why not just pick one of those 30 second clip scenes from before P4 was released. Those aren’t hard to find.

    • Uhm…. this article assume you played the game……. or watch the anime, Strain-san.

      • Strain42

Lotta people haven’t though. Some people are gonna get into it through The Golden or something. I’m just saying that it wouldn’t have been hard for them to use a NOT spoilery scene here. There’s no reason why they needed to pick that one scene to show if all they wanted was a sample of Teddie’s voice.

    • RablaAndrews

I think if you’re checking out articles for the SEQUEL TO PERSONA 4, you shouldn’t be complaining about potential spoilers, imo.

      • Strain42

That’s still no excuse. There is no justifiable reason to have a spoiler filled video in an article like this, especially without warning, and especially since it could’ve been easily avoided by the writer.

Golden and Arena were announced at the same time, if someone was planning on getting into the series through these games, just by trying to follow a small news update, they’ve now seen a pretty big spoiler for a game they might not have played yet.

There is no reason to defend something like this. It’s a spoiler that doesn’t need to be here, it’s not even for the sake of the article and in my eyes actually comes across as pretty unprofessional.

What I’m saying is not something that is unreasonable to be upset about.

  • vivaluis59

Meh, personally teddie is my least favorite so his voice doesn’t really matter to me.. At least Laura Bailey is still there :)

  • Yep, seems that past news article that not all of the Persona 4 English VA’s were able to be re-casted.

Hopefully Sam Riegel is still quite new on his vocal portrayal of Teddie with Dave’s as inspiration or guide. Probably he could get more in tune with it as time passes by.

  • SuigetsuHiramura

Dave Whittingberg (?) Where art thou? Many of of us will be beary sad not to hear you as Teddie’s voice any more ;__; lol

    • Either Dave’s busy, or Atlus deliberately changed his english VA to match also Keppei Yamaguchi’s high pitched Kuma.

Though personally, if they were not able to get Dave to do Teddie again, they could have casted this guy instead: http://www.youtube.com/user/GForce4

      Hiimdaisy’s Persona 4 Teddie.

  • Nyandroid

    Don’t like Teddie’s new voice. ._.

    • I miss the old Teddie…..T_T

    • Alexisonfire

      It’s pretty un-bear-able

  • Actually, after hearing it again it’s not that bad as I first thought, but I’d have hear his emotional range. Guess it’s the fake enthusiasm he’s rolling out in the thing. Hope Chie’s replacement is good.

    • Strain42

That’s kinda how I feel. It’s not the voice that I’m disliking, it’s just the way he’s delivering the lines. I’m hoping that’s just his Teddie as an announcer voice and he doesn’t use that style of speaking for the game.

  • Either voice is fine for me, but somehow I think watching the anime let me got used to Jp voice…..

  • dahuuuundge

    >mash A for auto combo
    I’ll stick to KoF13

    • Auto combos aren’t that good in this game. They basically give you 3 hits>special>super. They’re completely unsafe in many cases and there are a lot better combos you can do in the game that don’t even cost super meter. It’s basically a bone thrown for newcomers, because if you look up match play there’s plenty of room for skill play and top BB/GG players are on it. So don’t judge yet bro.

    • Oh I’ll maybe stick my middle finger(eyes covered)!
All game have different or same type of gameplay if you don’t want it then go to a KoF article and ……
      Y U here? also
I thought the last KoF was 2003???

  • Big love
    Laura Bailey as Rise!!!!
Massive depression on Teddie’s part I hope he improve his voice as Teddie…..

  • I normally don’t care about dubbed voicework…but I hope this has a dual audio option. However, from my atlus experience…it’s not very likely. R.I.P. Teddie.

  • cj_iwakura

Could’ve used Shadow Teddie’s voice. That would’ve been awesome.

“Use your pitiful skills to mash A, pathetic gamer.”
