Free PS3 Gundam Game Pits Man Against Mobile Suits

By Spencer . May 11, 2012 . 1:38am

Namco Bandai released a new video of Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation, a free to play game for PlayStation 3. Sure, you can pilot a mobile suit, but you can also fight on foot and a new trailer shows a squad of soldiers armed with rocket launchers take down a mech. When you’re not in a mech you can also pick up machine guns and toss grenades.

When you get tired of shanking other players you can repair a damaged Mobile Suit and swing into the cockpit. The game has different controls when you’re piloting a Gundam like a grappling and cover system.

      SIEG ZEON!!!!!!!!

      • LynxAmali

But does Zeon have the INVINCIBALL?

        I think I’ve won.

        • boundries_san

INVICIBALL is nothing in front of BIG ZAM!!!!!

      • Gimme My Gouf Flight-type let me paint it red and up it’s Speed stats by three times and I wil Join Zeon anyday :D

  • So how do we demand they localize this game?

    • boundries_san

Harakiri in front of Bamco HQ? lol.

    • Or just DL it from PSN JP. I doubt there’s enough demand for a Gundam game localisation.

      •  But that title logo and that gameplay just scream “Catering to a western audience!”

        • I wouldn’t say every TPS is catering to a western audience ^_^’ Still I doubt it will come. It’s a free to play and Gundam is niche. Don’t think Bamco will take the risk.

Yet somehow three Dynasty Warrior Gundam games have managed to swim over to the Western shores

        • They’re Tecmo Koei, not Namco Bandai

          • Guest

Tecmo develops. Bamco publishes so they give the final call to localize

          • Funny, the back of my box says “Published by Tecmo Koei Europe Ltd”.
Bandai is only there because they own the license to Gundam.

          • kroufonz

it’s a warrior game and i believe it is tecmo the one who push for localization more than scamco, if those game have no warrior on it’s name it will probably never localized!

    • Luna Kazemaru

Yeah don’t see this coming lol seeing has how we don’t even gave gundam extreme.

    • Godmars

       A charity Kickstarter?

Set a goal like a 100k, publicize it turning over the money in Bandai’s name to a chosen charity.

      • KotaroInugami

This makes so much sense I’d believe it. :D Genius!

      •  Don’t even joke about that, Kickstarters are terrible.

        • Godmars

Well, what else would you suggest, especially considering that we’re talking about a ‘free’ game?

Frankly, between the West’s economic issues and Japan’s own recession, that usually a title sells there for $100 converted which means they lose $40 not counting added translation costs, they’re all but in the process of forgetting about the US market. Something like this would at least remind them that fans of their titles exist.

        • Godmars

Okay, realistically, 25K. Have a group larger group of fans establish a smaller spokes-committee who then contact the charity, who setup the kickstart account and directly handle any money, make the project video and contact Bandai to let them know its happening.

Know it sounds complicated but its likely the best chance such has of happening. Could do a petition but then how often do those work?

        •  How so? We just saw first hand an article on one hitting it’s mark and last month I saw another called Wasteland hit it’s mark tenfold. Some of the projects are questionable at best, and those things do run off an honor system, but it’s not completely unwarranted. Also it saves many of those developers from going through a publisher and losing some or a lot of creative control over their projects.

if they couldnt release gundam extreme vs. which its currently the best console gundam game, im seriously doubt that they will release this one over here….

but we can crossfinger and hope it get released

      • LynxAmali

-gundam extreme vs. which its currently the best console gundam game.

I’m sorry but no, Extreme VS is not the best.

It’s ONE OF THE BEST, up there with Battlefield Record UC0081, Zeonic Front and OMNI VS ZAFT II PLUS.

        At least, IMO.

        • eilegz

          keyword: “current”

but yeah even the amazing and popular Gundam Seed Destiny: alliance vs zaft II plus  could not get localized….

          • LynxAmali

            0081 IS current.

    • boundries_san

Hmm…. Operation Colony Drop??? Or Localization Drop?

  • boundries_san

This game is probably a dream comes true for all U.C fans.^^ Time to prepare my Body when this game comes out.

  • s07195

I dunno, it seems awfully biased towards the foot soldiers to me, the way the mechs seem to stagger when receiving too much fire. Seems hard to kill foot soldiers in mechs, looking at what footage has come out so far.

  • ZEROthefirst

This is a day one dl for me when it pops-up on PSN Jpn.

    • Godmars

       Well, it is free afterall…

      • ZEROthefirst

I would’ve dl’d this game first day, even if it wasn’t free.

  • LOL Gundam Operation TROY

  • Doctor Madness

I wonder if there will be a Masaru Mode where you fight mobile suits with the power of your hot-blooded punches?

    • XiaomuArisu

Are you talking about this?(The next parts are all screamed)
“My hand burns with a awesome power! It tells me to defeat you!
      Take this!
      My love!
      My hate!
      And all my sorrows!
      Shininh Finger!

  • It’s the revenge of sanity! Anti-armor will have its DAY!

Of course the odds of this ever getting a Western release are slim.

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

We need to get a US release

  • put it out in usa or us ppl well not like you no more

  • if that
Gundam game dont hit usa make it ppl we can make it come to the usa
