In Persona 4: Arena Yukiko Is A Chef & Kanji Fights His Other Self

By Spencer . May 17, 2012 . 5:31pm

Yukiko focused on her passion for cooking after the events in Persona 4. In Persona 4: Arena she hears rumors that the Midnight Channel is back on air and enters the TV world, bento box in hand, hoping to show off her hard work. She runs into Labyrs who claims she is the class president of Yasogami High School. Instead of fighting Labyrs, the two characters start to bond. (It looks like Yukiko is way more excited to see Teddie, though!)

Kanji hears the protagonist is coming to Inaba for a visit during Golden Week and decides to knit a handmade gift for him. He gets drowsy as he’s sewing and awakens… at the front of Yasogami High!? Kanji tells himself this has to be a dream and enters the fighting tournament. Once again, Kanji has to face his other self inside the Midnight Channel.

  • hahaha XD Kanji’s other self is still alive O_O?!

    • rebecasunao

Doesn’t make any sense to me either. D:

    • ‘Cuz he a troll.

    •  Well, he’s a part of him, after all. :)

  • I love how Teddie is like “I need an adult.”

  • Xapth

I’m just now noticing that they actually changed the insignias on Yosuke and Kanji’s collars to reflect the grade they are currently in.

Yosuke is now a third year (III), while Kanji is now a second year (II) high schooler.

Poor Yu, he still has a second year insignia, probably because he moved away…

  • hmm shadows-selves are back, maybe that’s why the initial persona’s are present instead of the evolved ones, unless of course its a fake shadow-self.

  • Guest

Oh lord, his shadow self is back.
lol Poor Kanji. Will always be haunted. XD

  • RmanX1000

Anyone else read the headline and think “We’re screwed.. in more ways than one.”

  • Natat

Yukiko as a chef, huh? … Oh boy.

    •  Mystery Food X2.

      • In her defence tht is the product of Chie and Yukiko……

  • Firion_WR

yukiko as a chef hell thats like making arche or rain a chef

  • Yukiko: Yuu in the TV!? Must. gv. him. *OMG Teddie you are so funny!!* bento!!!
    The team: AW HELL NAAAAW!!
Labrys: As the student council president, I ask thee to be my friend!!!
S!Kanji: Hi I am Kanji and I love dudes.
Kanji: You are SOOOOO going to GET BENT again.

    •  Yosuke: And don’t do anything gay again~! <: 0

Thankfully this time, he's fully clothed.

    • You sayin’ I like dudes?

  • Hoooboy.

  • AuraGuyChris

*Sees Yukiko* The Amagi Inn is surely not getting more business, but a lot of lawsuits instead.

  • KingGunblader

I’m really into this! I love Arc System Works’ games. I’m waiting for P4: Golden to come out so I can get that and P3P on Vita. :D

  • MrKappa

The story mode just sounds so goofy. I have a hard time believing it will be as long or as deep as BB’s like Atlus originally said.

    •  Goofy=good. This is a very silly premise.

BB is rather cringeworthy most of the time.

      • William Carpenter

Agreed on BlazBlue, it’s almost as bad as Kingdom Hearts in terms of convoluted and cringeworthy nonsense. I’ll never understand people who take it seriously. I’d take Guilty Gear over BB any day of the week.

        • XiaomuArisu

Your allowed to like Guilty Gear but please tell me do you like it because its better then bb or because bb is not called Guilty Gear.;)
About BB story it has to side the comedy and the serious.Maybe its not perfect but I enjoy it more then FF13.

        • raymk

I agree with Xiaomu on this one please like GG because its just a better game than BB not because everyone else says that GG is better know why its better.  Liking BB or GG for the story though neither one of them are all that though so I hope your aren’t basing your decision on that.

        • Luna Kazemaru

I’m sorry I could not help but laugh at this comment.

    • cj_iwakura

According to the translators, the script is longer than it has any right to be.

      • Source?

That doesn’t sound good. I’d enjoy a lengthy story mode, but not if it just drags on.

        • cj_iwakura

It should be enjoyable. I loved BB’s story mode, and Atlus is involved in this.

And someone from Atlus posted his woes about how long the script was at an MB I go to.

  • William Carpenter

I hope they don’t recycle Kanji’s Shadow fight story just because people liked it the first time.

I also hope this whole game doesn’t tack on a needless event post-P4 in the Persona chronology. I get that if they were gonna make a Fighting game spin-off it had to have a story to it, but I worry that it won’t make a lot of sense given the way P4 ends.

“They solve the mystery, everybody moves on with their lives… oh, and then they enter a fighting tournament too, I guess”. I don’t want to judge it too early but I can’t say I have a lot of faith in Arc System Works to make a sensible story.

    • The Persona team wrote this story by itself. Blame them, if it sucks.

    • raymk

The story is canon though :/.  Its supposed to not be that serious of a story from the looks of things.  You also have to remember the story only takes 2 months after p4 so I mean getting on with their lives when they’re all still friends makes sense.  P4 also doesn’t end in a way that makes it not believable that anything else can happy as everyone but the MC lives in the same city.

  • Real talk. Yukiko’s my waifu.

  • OverlordZetta

So hey, not to be rude, but could we get article titles that AREN’T spoiling the game’s whole story mode? Please?

I was kind of really looking forward to this but no it’s not even safe t scroll here.

    • William Carpenter

You’re entitled to want to go in fresh, but I doubt they’re really spoiling much. Seems like just the basic premise of everyone’s personal stories. All that the headline says is that Yukiko is a chef and Kanji’s Shadow is back. If that was such a big reveal, would Atlus really be so loose lipped about it?

      • OverlordZetta

Atlus can be loose with what they want – I don’t have to read that. This isn’t just an Atlus site though.

        • William Carpenter

Right, but what I mean is, if it was an important revelation then I doubt Atlus would have included it in the marketing material. It’s obviously something they want people to know up-front.

  • Shadowman

Kanji got to fight his other self again!?!?! Aw crap get ready for another uncomfortable battle.

    • William Carpenter

      What’s so uncomfortable about it?

      • Guest

Well when you think about it, what he probably meant by “uncomfortable battle” is……

        ……I’ll stop right there. ._.

        • Christopher Nunes

Thank you for not tainting our minds with such “descriptive” imagery.

      • Shadowman

So you don’t find Shadow Kanji uncomfortable?

        • William Carpenter

  • Elemiel

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

omg  Shes going to kill us all with her bad cooking and oh dear not  rainbow
Kanji   I hated that boss fight

  • is spoiling half the story the only way to advertise games these days

  • canarinta

Not even a spoiler warning. The spoiler is even in the title, actually.

    • Uhm….. They r not spoiling anything unless u haven’t play/watched P4.

      • canarinta

        I’ve played AND watched P4.

This is an article about Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena/Persona 4 Arena, the sequel.

  • kanji dont be afraid
your other self is awesome o/

  • Holy crap. Yukiko, dear, I know I love you but Jesus look at that pot! Something green is overflowing..

  • icecoffemix

Hope they have decent plot for this, or humorous one. P4 ending was good enough as it is, not another FES please.

    • You don’t like FES?

      • icecoffemix

        • JazzWithAttitude

FES have a “not bad” storyline
Is not like a numered sequel but is “not bad”

          • Yuri

FES felt like a visual novel tacked on with grindfest gameplay.

          • Zeik56

You’re talking about “The Answer”, not “FES”. FES was the whole package, including the added content to The Journey. (In fact that was really more the point of FES.)

          • icecoffemix

Yes I was talking about the answer, it should be obvious but I guess not.

          • vileBrenman

Still awesome i love grinding  and the answer is pretty boss well except metis she was awkward

          • icecoffemix

Because clearly your opinion reflect mine or the rest of the world.

    • Dantis

The story is most likely going to be awful. There’s a few screenshots of the translation, and details have come out regarding the events in the game, and it’s looking bad.

      Like, sub-The Answer bad.

      • amagidyne

I guess it wouldn’t be a fighting game if the story was good and made sense.

        • Dantis

           That is, unfortunately, true.

I feel like a lot of people are expecting way too much from this game just because of the Persona branding.
Have you seen the screenshots of the translation on the US site? “Have they lost their minds? Though it seems like they go back to normal after they’re defeated…”. That dialogue alone has convinced me that the story will be trash, and Teddie’s “Heehee… You want to know? Then move on to the next round! By the way, only the winner gets to advance, so keep that in mind!” has just cemented it in further.

By fighting standards, that kind of script is fine. But it’s no way near what I’d expect from pretty much any MegaTen game. Like I say, people are expecting too much just because of the branding.

          • William Carpenter

There’s absolutely no reason why a Fighting game can’t have a good story or script, don’t be silly. You just have to think outside of the box of Fighting game tropes.

          • Dantis

Sure, but this won’t do. Like I say, we’ve seen two screenshots with dialogue on, and on both it is laughably bad.

    • Brandon001

chill with the attitude, good to know you have an opinion like every other living being

      • icecoffemix

  • Nathanael Chu

    Yukiko? COOK?!?

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. Hoping that they don’t retread old ground just for the sake of throwing in the same old jokes about gay-panic again. It would be pretty boss if the Shadow had evolved and reflected new insecurities of his- people don’t just have that one thing they get really bummed about, they constantly find NEW things to be bummed about :D

  •  Kanji to Kanji

“Kanji, stop hitting yourself! -punch- Stop hitting yourself! -punch- Stop hitting yourself! -punch-”

  •  Yukiko is about to go Cooking Mama on some bitches.

(As long as these Persona 4 Arena articles keep coming out, I will not stop making jokes.)

  • Niermyico

Does the inn even get business while Yukiko is behind the kitchen?

Yukiko: The female that you would not want her in the kitchen and get you a sandwich.
