Two of Sega’s classic beat ’em up series are getting the digital Sega Ages treatment. Sega is bundling the three Genesis Streets of Rage games as Streets of Rage Collection. Golden Axe Collection includes Golden Axe, Golden Axe II, and the Japan-only release Golden Axe III

Each collection costs 800 Microsoft Points ($10) and includes a jukebox with in-game music.

Hmm… I wonder if the "Metal Slug 3 trick" will let players try the Japanese version of Streets of Rage 3, which has a different boss at the end of the first stage. The North American version removed the bloody barfs characters make when they are turned into zombies. However, you can restore the game’s original settings by switching your Xbox 360’s language to Japanese. This also changes the character names in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 from Akuma to Gouki.

  • I didn’t know about that switch versions trick. That’s interesting to know.
Now I wonder if that would mean adding in the some of the alter content in the SoR games, like Blaze and the first boss in SoR3…

What about Blaze is different between the two versions?

Some sprites where her panties are visible are modified in the international release. Also some female thugs have modified sprites, instead of dominatrix outfit, they look like biker chicks.

Kind of a weird lineup to show on the cover art for the Golden Axe Collection. Ax Battler, Kain, and… who’s the blonde dude? Streets of Rage gets mostly the whole cast, but for Golden Axe the only guys in the spotlight are the balanced dudes. No Gilius or Tyris? Bah! They were way cooler.

Max Thunder doesn’t look as bulky as I remember him being, either.

But hey, it’s cool we’re finally getting Golden Axe III again. I could have sworn it had a limited print run in the US, but I guess not. Was it ever put up on the US Wii Virtual Console?

Blaze should be in the Sega x Namco x asdfghjkl game

    • William Carpenter

Agreed! I’ve always liked Blaze, she’s awesome. Gilius can come too.

T_T this game makes me remember my childhood era here lol. Sega can’t u guys make this kind of game anymore here???

And for about the same price you can get “Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection,” a set they released a good three years ago. It comes with these six games plus 34 more!

    •  Question is pretty much what Spencer and some of the other posters mentioned, will content that got removed be in the game if you change settings for the game? Especially since they are merely emulations with new features.

  • The interface looks like the one they used for Final Fight Double Impact, just with way more games.

  • Handsome Luigi ♢

Aah, so many memories with SoR games. This would be an inmediate buy if it wasn’t that is for the Xbox.

  • I have a hard time justifying these games when I’ve owned the best games in both of these series on XBLA for years. If you don’t care about online play (Which I’m assuming these will have), the Genesis Collection is fantastic and these games are all cheaper on Steam.

Sega Sega Sega make a new Streets of Rage game!

  • LustEnvy

I used to be absolutely obsessed with Streets of Rage 2. So much, that I used to mimic all the sound/voices in the options… IN ORDER. Sad but 100% true. I can still remember most of them in order.

The fact that it was the only game other than Sonic 1 that I owned didn’t help. I used to rent everything.

  • Rollersnake

It’s not the censoring of Ash that bothers me about Streets of Rage 3—it’s that they absolutely ruined the game in trying to rebalance the difficulty.  I personally think 3 is better than 2 in pretty much every way, but you’d never think this unless you went out of your way to play the Japanese version.

  • Rollersnake

Also releasing a Golden Axe collection and not including Revenge of Death Adder is a travesty.
