By Spencer . May 29, 2012 . 6:22pm

001Furyu is continuing Unchained Blades, a dungeon crawler that brought together the creators of Lunar, Grandia, and a ton of well known artists. Famitsu has the scoop on Unchained Blades Exiv, which is in development for PSP and Nintendo 3DS.

Takashi Hino (Grandia) is working on the game’s story and Toshio Akashi (Lunar) is the producer. Earthbound Papas is composing the soundtrack and the theme song will be written by Nobuo Uematsu.

Unchained Blades Exiv will have artwork from:

Suzuhito Yasuda (Devil Survivor)
Haruyuki Morisawa (Larange: The Flower of Rin-ne)
Yusuke Kozaki (No More Heroes)
Kumiko Suekane (Once Upon a Glashma)
Kaito Shibano (Luminous Arc 3)
Kunihiko Tanaka (Xenogears and Sands of Destruction)
Keatsumi Enami (Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari)
Kia Asamiya (Fist of the North Star)
Shin Nagasawa
Eiji Kaneda (Aquarion)
Senmu (Kampfer)

It isn’t clear what each artist is contributing, but Unchained Blades had different artists create the game’s lead characters. Unchained Blades Exiv is slated for release on October 18. Xseed will release the first title under the name Unchained Blades in North America as a digital download.

    > Luminous Arc 3God I hate you for bring that up >.> the only one I never played :/

    • It never came out here did it?

      • Luna Kazemaru

        • Raharu95

Such a sad fate for the series.

      • LynxAmali

        Stop reminding me.

        God damn it, Neo Atlus.

  • Nyandroid

    I-its already getting a sequel!?
But I’m still waiting to play the first one.

    • It’s been out for like a year in Japan. o_o It sold well enough for a sequel it seems. Hopefully the English version sells enough for the second to be localized too.

    • CrimsonalCore

Same, I was waiting every Thursday for Unchained Blade to be release. They said it is going to release in Spring, but Spring is almost over. I still have my money on eShop waiting for that one… v.v And that was since last April…

  •  “Suzuhito Yasuda”

Anti gravity breasts and same-faces ahoy.

  •  I’m not sure if the Grandia guy is a selling point or not. :/ The First two were amazing, the second two…not so much. It would’ve been awesome if they got the Final Fantasy Amano guy.

    • Nyandroid

Not just Grandia, but Lunar! LUNAR! LUUUUNAAAAR~~!
And of course, Nobuo Uematsu! (….just noticed… EVEN BETTER!!!) This is definately one game I don’t want to pass up. (Even for Lunar alone. My beloved Lunar~) X3
      SO EXCITED!!!

      •  Lunar is great and all, but I love the first two Grandias a hell of a lot more.

        • Nyandroid

Ive only played the first Grandia. I enjoyed it. And I’ve always wanted to play the others, but never gotten the chance.
But Lunar. The Lunar series is an absolute treasure to me~! They’re the first games I ever played with animated cutscenes and voiceovers. ^-^ I love the heck outta them.

          • I feel the same way about Grandia. I love every single thing about it, the story, the emotional connection I felt with the characters, and it had one of the most complex and fun battle systems I’ve seen in an RPG. I think it was my first game with voice overs too.

I’m a big fan of Lunar too, (especially Nash) just not as much as other series.

  • Tatsumarii

Score! I’m totally psyched for Unchained Blades! I hope it does well so we can get the sequel too! My 3DS is going to be so happy! :D

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    “Suzuhito Yasuda”
You had my money right there. Don’t even need to read the rest of the list.

Hm, so is the general consensus around Siliconera that the multi-character designers is GOOD? I was REALLY thrown off by it at first, and felt the art style lacked a cohesive factor tying it together, but the more material Xseed started to release on the original Unchained Blades, the more I sort of got into it-it’s just like selling a game based on voice actors, just the art equivalent, right? :D Plus, it lessens the blow, in my opinion of, “Oh, I don’t like this character’s art; the anatomy’s weird and the eyes are too big, ect.” Yes, there may be a character or two you like, but also another by your favorite artist. I’ve really warmed up to it as a cool gimmick.

However, I’ve seen the game be [unfairly, imho] called something to the extent of “a crappy deviantart gallery of a game” xD So, I’m sort of curious as to the other opinions. Yay, or nay on the multi-artists?

Also: Suzuhito Yasuda AND Yusuke Kozaki? Yes!!

    • Nyandroid

Im only familiar with Devil Survivor. But I do like the idea of multiple artists. ^-^

    • revenent hell

Actually the only charecter I adore is Fang the others I could live with out……Even so im picky about dungeon crawlers and this type of one actually appeals to me,based on what ive seen of storey anrd gameplay, those are two high factors of what makes me buy a game…(pluss pretty artwok and Fang pretty much takes that on his lonesome)…
Otherwise alot of the charecrters I dislike the art of……..Im totally not a fan of multiple artists since alot of the styles I dont care for personally..but I suppose as long as one artisrt is up there I can tolerate it

      • Hatsuu

Fang’s design is probably my favorite, but there are a lot of interesting characters in the game, especially for a dungeon crawler. Lucius, for example, has a VERY detailed design and is quite charismatic! He’s not particularly featured in any of the trailers, though.

My favorite character overall unexpectedly turned out to be Hector, the golem. Normally I don’t like characters who aren’t so human-looking, but he’s a sweetheart, hahaha.

As for the multiple artists thing… I agreed before playing it. As you play the game, however, you sort of go into the flow of the design and feel of the game and the differences in style don’t catch your eye. Or rather, they do, but not in a “glaring differences” way. It’s more like all the styles just work together as part of the world.

    • It’s a cool idea, but there’s only about 2-3 artists on the list that I’m interested in. Although, I care more about the designs than the people who made them.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Lagrange and Aquarion? Hype, cant wait to see what they churn out designwise.

  • revenent hell

I would be ever so hyped for word of this if the first game had an actual release date by Xseed….I hope I dont sound like a whiney brat and im ever thankfull of them taking this game on because I was super hyped for it,still am, but the waiting is killing me.

    • JazzyMan123

They said ‘spring’ and since May is almost over, it’s probably a June release.

      • revenent hell

yeah but I never put my hopes up when I hear of a seasonal release since they sometimes get pushed back…Though on the semi pluss side it gives me more time to wait to buy a 3DS…im anal I want the game release day.
But thank you for the reply..actually I didnt even know about the “spring release date” untill a few hours ago so it made me more eager for a release “day” announcment lol

  • SetzerGabbiani

I knew Sands of Destruction was a spiritual successor to Xenogears, lol.  Now, bring down that freaking $34 price tag, Sega.

  • neetyneety

Damn, now I don’t know whether to wait for this one or buy the first when it comes out on eShop!

    Decisions, decisions.

    • Get the first and this one. :D

  • JazzyMan123

Interesting, wonder if this is the sequel to the story of the first UB or it just takes place in the same universe with a different story and characters.

    • Either way I am excited. I am so hyped for the English release.

  • Carocaro4

gosh today is just fill to the max with awesome news. thanks people who post news stuffs in Siliconera for keeping me informed.

      • Carocaro4

Thanks Issan, Spencer, and the other person! You all make us so informed and happy! Even if the news is bad like when (insert example here) or makes up jump for joy  like when (insert example here)  it’s always great to get video game news from around the world!

  • komiko12

Suzuhito Yasuda = more Durarara-ish characters

I hope he would design some of the important characters not just some easily forgotten NPC.

    • I really like the Durarara!!!! character designs.

  • MrJechgo

Wow… but I still need to play the first game to begin with… any idea on when it’s supposed to come out ? They said that an English version is for Nintendo eShop and PSN this spring… and we’re almost in summer.

  • XiaomuArisu

Shin Nagasawa(The only one without a(insert work here))worked on some Marvel comics and a series called Robots,if someone wants to know and no never read them just asked google who Nagasawa is.

  • RaikageV

I just want to play it on my European 3DS. >,<

  • usagi_san

I’ve seen some the images for Exiv and the characters look awesome!

I love how the characters are designed by different artist but have such cohesive feel to them, in my opinion.

  • Vivian Mai

Oh lord. The amount of pretty art in Exiv is going to overload me.

Still eagerly awaiting the PSN release, so I can make my wallet cry. Again.
