Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 In Development For PS3 And Xbox 360

By Spencer . May 31, 2012 . 11:18pm

imageNot to be confused with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate for 3DS, Konami is also working on a direct sequel to MercurySteam’s Castelvania reboot. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

A trailer shows Gabriel Belmont, now a vampire, attacking hordes of troops with an energy whip. You know this almost looks like another Konami title… N3: Ninety-Nine Nights 2 except Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2’s trailer shows even more troops and later some kind of giant robot-like enemy that Gabriel defeats by transforming into a cloud of smoke.

  • Looks amazing. Wonder which timeline we’ll play in this, the modern or after defeating the last boss or even both. There is sure a lots of troops and giant robot but can it display One Million Troops in a screen :P

  • Code

    rarrrr, I promised myself I wouldn’t get excited for Lords of Shadows 2. For me Castlevania has always been about metroidvania, so Lords of Shadow was a little weird for me. I get it was kind of going for a more classic style Castlevania, and that it was focused on reinventing the series. But the story was horrendous and the gameplay was just kind of average and in the end it just left a really bad after taste o~o;

But then this trailer comes out, I didn’t think I’d get excited and I didn’t wanna get excited but damnit! It delivers something I’ve always wanted from Castlevania series >A<;; I've always wanted a game where you play Dracula, not Soma, but Dracula, and being a badass >mA< *flails* UGH now I have to get it, and play this game I didn't really want to want ಠ‸‸___ಠ  Bah any ways I apologize for fangirling. *crosses arms, and kicks floor*

    • Subaru

Hmm, it doesn’t look to me like Gabriel will be the protagonist but rather Alucard.

I wonder if Alucard = Trevor in LoS continuity, taking Mirror of Fate into consideration which serves as a bridge between the two main games.

      • Code

I’m kind of curious about that too, I’ll be interested to see how Mirror of Fate works into this whole thing and how mercury point is going to handle Alucard. But yeah the thought crossed my mind that maybe Alucard will be the main character; but I still can’t pass up the notion of a Castlevania game with Dracula as the main character >w<~

    • Godmars

      Beat me to it DX

  • Godmars

Having not played the first I’m a bit confused: did the hero of the last game become Dracula?

    • Yes.

    • Code

Yep, that’s sort of the game’s twist opo; Although honestly the story is realllyy weak in Lords of Shadow, and doesn’t even include said twist (that’s part of the DLC chapter o~o;;) your not missing much.

      • SirRichard

It’s not, though; the process of him abandoning his cross and setting out to become Dracula are the DLC, but at the very end of the main game we see the twist in a final cutscene, when Zobek goes to warn him of Lucifer’s return.

        • Rohan Viajar

question: why did he become dracula?

          • To stop an even bigger threat from making it to the world.

          • SirRichard

Mostly corruption. In the DLC, he sets to help a vampire girl called Laura who helped him in the main game, discovering that a great demon sealed beneath the vampire castle is breaking free. To get in, he has to become a vampire, and ends up killing Laura by drinking all of her blood to do this (she willingly allowed this, which just heaps on the guilt). That’s the first bit.

The second DLC chapter has him face The Forgotten One, an ancient demon capable of destroying the world. Gabriel gradually gets more and more corrupted in its dark dimension prison and from his vampirism, and towards the end of it he steals the demon’s power to destroy it and stop it from escaping. The demonic power just seals his fall into evil, he renounces his humanity and destroys the combat cross, setting out to take vengeance on God/humanity/the world for taking Marie away from him and also because he’s now evil.

That’s about it, as far as I’m aware.

        • Code

Yeahh, but honestly there is pretty much no context for Gabriel at the very end of the main game; until you play the DLC, which is what I’m saying.

  • Farid Belkacemi

Didn’t like the trailer, Konami could have done so much better… :(

  • epy

Despite strongly wishing they went back to the original continuity of Castlevania, I have to admit this looks awesome.

  • AokiShizuku

Still waiting for the game where it takes place in the Demon Castle War…

  • boundries_san

While the trailer looks really cool.^^

Am i the only one who thought of Castlevania Musou the first time i see the number of foes there?^^

  • Prinnydoom

Was that………Alucard o_O This looks amazing and i am taking it this is still about Gabrielle belmont then >__<

  • The logo looks really cool like SoulCalibur-cool although I don’t why the title “Lords of Shadow” must still be used.

  • michael harris

    yes…! my dream comes true.
play as John Petrucci in Castlevania Universe.

  • Modern Castlevania!? Sounds cool.

  • MrJechgo

I fail to understand why Konami rebooted the franchise… because we haven’t gotten the famous 1999 battle, where apparently, Julis Belmont kills Dracula… for good, leading to the events of Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow.

The 3DS game looks promising with Trevor and Simon Belmont being 2 of the 4 playable characters. If it wasn’t for the reboot, but just a new look, I would have loved to see Richter and Julius, but since Mirror of Fate leads to Lords of Shadow 2… I fear the worst.

    • Tony F.

I would love to see the Castle War of 1.999 but i think they WON’T make a game in that time because the expectations are too high.

  • sigh. . . they can’t even come up with a new subtitle. . .

I wonder if they’ve figured out how to program for the ps3 yet. . . nobody likes to lose their save files. . . (bethesda, you do that crap too)

  • Siliconera is really attempting on my life with all these meaty news!

Dead Space 3, Tomb Raider, ZOE HD, MGRising and now Castlevania LOS 2!!!
I don’t think my heart can take it anymore…

Wait, E3 is just around the corner…

  • SirRichard

    Buffering, my greatest of foes.

It’s looking absolutely incredible, I’m hoping there’s an extensive demo at E3 to show off. I really liked the first game’s combat, so it’ll be interesting to see how Gabriel’s new powers change it up. The DLC was disappointing in that regard, we didn’t get to see any of his vampire powers.

  • Hating Ass Nigga

The white-haired guy could either be Alucard or Juste Belmont i think.

  • MrRobbyM

That’s one sexy logo. I also approve of Gabriel’s new look. An improvement over the first.

Speaking of Konami, I thought it was hilarious when I got a weapon called “Thousand Troops” in Dragon’s Dogma.

  • Nitraion

    Didn’t see it coming…
He is become “Lord of shadow” now
now the title actually make sense to me now, also love if they bring lv as well weapon system back if the MC is alucard XD

  • Rohan Viajar

I know everybody is thinking of Alucard for the guy with white hair.
but the costume he wears reminds me of Hector from “Curse of Darkness”

    • Hating Ass Nigga

I think you might be right.

Looks reaaaally similar,I never got the chance to play the 2nd Ps2 CV.

    • Solomon_Kano

I think you’re right. That would make more sense than Alucard, being that Gabriel isn’t Dracula.

  • LustEnvy

    I r very excite

  • I’m so excited for this. The first game was amazing (IMO) and so I’m really looking forward to this one. I also cannot wait to find out who the new protagonist is (if it’s not Gabriel) and what the overall plot will be. Oh well, that just means that the 3DS game has just been bumped up in my anticipation levels as well.

  • Sooo, this is before or after the ending still? I would be fine if Mecurystream scrapped the whole 21st Century Castlevania. Whatever the case, the trailer’s pretty epic and I hope we’d play whoever’s facing Gabriel. Or we can just play both.

    • Solomon_Kano

This is prior to the ending. I wonder if MercurySteam ever really intended to touch on what he was doing in the modern day for the sequel? The biggest takeaway from that, for me, was always Gabriel becoming Dracul, so I wonder if the rest was merely to show how long after he would remain around? Either way, I’m excited to see where this goes.

  • Freud_Hater

Meh, not interested. Lords Of Shadow 1 was boring, predictable and all around unoriginal, not to mention it completely lacked the Castlevania feel the series used to have (Which ended, if you ask me, with Order of Ecclesia)

I’ll pass. Have fun, guys, if you buy it.

    • KuroiKen

Agreed. The series died when Konami allowed westerners into the series development(LoS/that Mirror of what/LoS2 is developed by dirty gaijins)

  • Ayo_Ayo_Son

I wonder if people were complaining this much when Castlevania changed from the classic platforming style to the Metroidvania style? (ignoring CV2).  Anyway, trailer was interesting.

  • I know I’m in the minority here, but I liked the first one. Frankly, I’ve never cared for God of War’s overall tone and attitude, so the ripoff elements there never bothered me one bit.  Then again, they never bothered me in Sonic Unleashed either.

I know everyone thought the first was just taking elements from other games, but so was Darksiders, and it was awesome as hell.  LoS didn’t quite reach that level with me, but I still enjoyed it and look forward to finding out where the story goes.

  • Ooh Bee

Ignorance in this post is amazing.

  • jakxzero

In my opinion the 1st did suck in fact i enjoyed the game twice

  • Solomon_Kano

I loved LoS, but I must say… this is a hell of a lot more intriguing than that game’s reveal. I was rather excited when I read about Mirror of Fate but, just days later, this has managed to top that. Gabriel using magic whips and teleporting and whatnot. Just sweet.

Aaaaand Lord, if that’s Alucard at the end… I doubt it. I am interested to see who it IS though.

  • h4mx0r

Lords of Shadow was such an amazing game for me. The art direction for it was stunning, and I think is one of the most beautifully cinematic games I have.

Really looking forward to the sequel to this reboot. Also who is that at the end? I know it’s a reboot and thus it could be anybody… but a sword and white hair… introduction of Alucard?

  • Chow

While I enjoy the 3D Castlevania console games, I wish they would develop an HD SotN-style sidescroller.  Not like Harmony of Despair, but sort of like how BlazBlue is compared to Guilty Gear.

    • Code

      I’d love ASW to do a 2D HD Castlevania similar to how they took on Hardcorps >w<; I think the only inherent problem would be, 2D Castlevania's are well known for having many, manyyy, monsters and doing that many monsters in HD would be extremely expensive and time consuming sadly T_T;; But I totally agree, I’d love that an HD 2D Castlevania >A<;

      • zero254

They had no problem making tons of monsters for judgement and then scaling them down.

        • Code

          I’m not sure what game your referring to x__x;;;

          • Solomon_Kano

This is old as everything, but he’s referring to Guilty Gear Judgement. It was a side-scroller for PSP.

  • WOW This just made my week, heck maybe even month XD! Wow, where do I start. I loved the first LoS and I have been a Castlevania fan for a really long time. I found this teaser down right amazing! I loved the way it was done. The they used music I found its tune familiar also quite beautiful, loved how they showed us Gabriel’s vampiric powers, also Mist dragon that was just epic, and that scene in the end left you wanting for more! I mean could that be Alucard?! Wow I pumped can’t wait to see gameplay!

  • thebanditking

I was hoping Gabriel would become the villian for this sequel and focus on another Belmont as the main character. Its cool to see a hero turn into an anti hero then to a villian (Darth Vader anyone?) but honestly I was hoping the next time a vampire took the lead it would be Alucard again (Edit) actually it seems the trailer may be implying exactly what I just said lol(Edit). Still I really enjoyed the first (even if the lack of Iga and Yamane makes me sad) and will likely enjoy this one too.
