Atelier Ayesha’s Diary Is Designed To Streamline The Story

By Spencer . June 4, 2012 . 4:32am

Have you ever put a RPG down and felt lost when you restarted it months later? Gust hopes to solve that problem with Atelier Ayesha’s diary.

Players can keep track of in-game events by writing down Ayesha’s "memories" in a diary, so if you start Atelier Ayesha a month later you can refresh your memory by reading what you wrote. Gust will reward players who jot down Ayesha’s memories with bonus alchemy recipes.

Linca is a new playable character in Atelier Ayesha. She has been training for battle her entire life and should be a powerful ally for melee attacks.

Cool! Linca will be on my party for sure.

  • That’s some pretty cool feature though I always finish a game in one go nowadays. Few years ago this is really a problem, played a game for around 20 hours and then switched other game and went back again to play. I know where to go but what exactly did the story tell again? Starting a new game but swayed by other game again and never beat the game resulting in a massive backlog that I’ll play “soon” Nomura style.

  • Luna Kazemaru

Inb4 sterk DLC….I would so pay for that btw.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

I am ADORING those character designs. Man, less than one more month to go!

  • This feature should be in every quest-driven RPGs… I had a hard time remembering where I got the side quest from months ago… I’m looking at you, Star Ocean The Last Hope….

  • Man can not wait till I get my hands on this game. I alrady have all the 3 Arland games and also a some other Atilier games hehe.

    • puchinri

May I ask which other games you have, and if they’re imported or not (and where you got them from). I’ve been wanting to hunt others down, but I have a slight idea of what I do and don’t want, and an even smaller idea of where to nab them from. (Well, the best place to order from.)

      • If you want Japanese imports then cdjapan is generally your best bet, assuming they have copies (not guaranteed if it’s an older game but you’ll find that with any shop really). You get points on your orders that you can put towards new purchases (1 point = 1 yen) and their service is second to none, I’ve never had a game turn up in more than six days and a couple in less. And that’s six days including weekends, not working days only :D

        • puchinri

Yeah, I’ve only ever bothered checking CDJapan and Yes/Play-Asia for imports (and Amazon occasionally). I have yet to order from CDJapan though, only Play-asia (got my Mother 1+2 from them), so I’ll look into that~.

      • Well the other games I have is Atelier Iris 1 to 3 for Ps2 I got them longe time ago on my local game store here in Sweden.

Then I also got Atelier Annie: Alchemist of sera Island for the NDS also got it on local games store.

lastly I got Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis for the psp I got from Ebay for like 12 bucks. And yes Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis are made buy Guts same company who makes the Arland Series. But yeah I think u can get the games from ebay that would be my best bet today cuz they don´t rely make ps2 titles that much or u can get them on a store that sell Retro games.

        • puchinri

Ahhh, I see. I’ll look into Iris and Annie again, I suppose~.

  • Ok Linca is my fav girl in this game for now. I love girls with big ass swords!

    • Learii

      same here

    • DanteJones

Amen, brother! She gives off a sort of Saber vibe. :D

    • raymk

Yep she’s a lot of peoples favorite for right now.  I know for a fact she’s going to be mine though just like juris.

  • Mystena

If Wilbell wasn’t enough, now they pull out Linca?! Merietta is also looking rather perky and cute, mind you … dammit GUST, just take my money already! Would it be easier to set up a direct deposit every year?
Excuse me while I cry myself to sleep knowing that another 9500 yen has burned its way out of my wallet, though I won’t regret it in the morning knowing that the premium box will be on its way at the end of the month…

I will admit that I was a bit apprehensive with the future game’s character design after Kishida Mel had left his mark with the Arland series. How little faith I had in GUST. Things are looking better and better with every iteration. However, back to Meruru I go.

    • Premium box honestly doesn’t float my boat so I’ve ‘just’ got 6800 burning through my digital wallet. Which since I left it a while waiting for some points to be credited to my cdjapan account and the exchange rates tanked yet again I’ve now got an added £4 to the cost for no good reason which wipes out the points completely ;_;

      Original cost: £52
Cost now thanks to lolexchangerates: £56

Really hope things drop a little again soon, I want to order already. Thankfully there are plenty of first presses available still though so I can wait a while.

    • puchinri

As much as I like Kishida’s art, I’m more of a fan of Hidari and was very excited for it, but I can see how everyone used to the Arland Trilogy would miss Kishida’s art.

(I also like that Hidari’s art and designs remind me more of the Salburg series.)

  • This game just keeps looking better. Also the diary idea is very cool. I like the thought of being able to have access to all that information is going to be very helpful when I wander off into the realms of… well, other games.

  • Nitraion

Linca’s battle stance is like cloud’s FF7  XD

  • Yamaneko22

Is it just me or Merietta looks like she’s a twin sister of Kyouko Sakura from Madoka? :D Well, except the “tsundere tooth” maybe xD

Nothing against this, because I love Kyouko :)

  • Speedo Redempteur

I really love Linca Design …
Maybe Zettai ryoki is my weakness ?

    • Zettai Ryouiki ;) But yes, thighhighs = win.

  • malek86

Actually my problem with putting a game down and restarting it months later is not the story, but remembering how to fight properly against non-starting-level monsters.

    • puchinri

That happens to me in RoF (and in Xenoblade recently) a lot, but I think a battle system like this is a lot nicer to remember before I even get into battle. But uh, that’s just me of course. I guess we can only hope this’ll be easy to remember?

  • AzureNova

That’s a nice feature to the game =)

Also, Dat Linca and Dat sword Mmmmmmmmmmm. Whats that I hear? Sounds like permanent party member once she joins to me =^_^=

  • puchinri

Ah, so her name is Merietta. The picture of her was so cute, but I was confused as to who she was supposed to be.

The diary feature is so convenient. I do tend to leave consoles in general for a month or two (at least) for a time, so I know I’ll love this feature. Especially since you get a reward. ♥

    Seriously loving Linca’s design and still so conflicted. I wanted someone more built and looking like Juris, but she is so cool looking, and I love that she looks the way she does and still kicks ass. Aiyahhh. vuv;

I’m loving everyone so much though so far. I hope there will still be a much larger cast, whether most or even some (or any!) of them will be part of the party. I’m looking forward to the game so much as it is though. (I’m even considering importing~.)

Hopefully it’ll do extremely well when it comes out. ♥u♥

  • usagi_san

Why do I get the feeling most people will be going for an all-girl team? :D

The new characters are looking awesome – I’m looking at you Linca. The diary feature is a godsend. Also, with the incentive for adding to your diary are new alchemy recipes. Awesome. All that is left for me to do is…

    Dear diary,

I have learnt, that, if I write down my memories in your pages, I will hear very soon of news about a localization. Oh, how I look forward to that announcement!

Until that day… I will keep myself busy by completing the Arland trilogy.

    • raymk

All the character designs are great male and female but I’ve got to admit this time that 3 certain female characters are looking to good not to make them a main stary.  I’m using linca the most even though I will try and use everyone a lot.

      • usagi_san

I, too, found the male designs to as good as their female counterparts. I will definitely give everyone a try, as well. I’d like to see another playable male character.

    • AnimusVox

Haha I dont do that often, though my teams usually consist mostly of girls in the general RPGs that allow such.
But you’re right, you got me, I’ll be having an all girl team most likely for this.

  • PizzicatoSpirit

The diary thing is a good idea since sometimes I don’t play a game after a awhile once I get busy…with other games…

I really do hope this game gets released to US/EU like many others who have said.

  • nekoCiel

okie it looks like my party is obvious now

  • 猫 黒

Yay for girls with big swords!  I really need a PS3.

  • This is actually a great idea. I have a bad habit starting something, particularly an RPG like this and drifting away from it. I do endeavour to come back to it and this would certainly help me out a lot!

  • Linca? <3

  • Göran Isacson

Having the option of recapping the story as it’s progressed is a feature I wish more long game developers included, if only because I so seldom have time to really hunker down and just power-game straight through a game these days.

Also, Linca draws her sword against Keithgrig? Drama and intrigue indeed…
