From Software plans on re-releasing Dark Souls with the upcoming Artorias of the Abyss downloadable content as Dark Souls with Artorias of the Abyss Edition. This bundle, which is essentially Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for Japan, will be available on PC and PlayStation 3.

Early purchasers will snap up a couple of bonus items with their game – a 70 page strategy guide that explains how to start Dark Souls and goes all the way up to the Gargoyle (this is based on the original Dark Souls guide with updated stats), an overworld map, soundtrack CD (the same one Japan got in September), and a sleeve to hold all of the items.

Dark Souls with Artorias of the Abyss Edition will be available in Japan on October 25 for 4,800 yen ($61). Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for PC only arrives in North America on Steam and Games for Windows Live on August 24.

It looks like the european Prepare to Die PC version is also getting some bonuses.

“soundtrack CD (the same one Japan got in September)”

… by the way, I’m hoping the game will have new tracks for the new bosses. Actually it’s possible that they might use existing tracks (“Ornstein & Smough” could be recycled as a track for the Four Knights of Gwyn, while the animal bosses already had a wide array of recurring music to choose from), but that would be a disappointment.

It’s a shame the European PC version won’t come with that map, though. Maps are awesome bonuses for RPG games.

Yeah, maps are cool. But I never know where to put them, so it’s ok. I have these nice maps for Morrowind and Oblivion, but they are just tucked away in the box… anyway, we get a Making of DVD instead, as well as a 150 pages artbook and postcards. A decent trade-off.

No strategy guide, but physical strategy guides always become obsolete whenever a patch gets released anyway.

I don’t know though, I might still just get this on Steam when it gets cheaper. I’m not sure. If it weren’t for GFWL, I would be ordering immediately…

150 page art book? That’s probably going to be pretty similar to the design works that was sold in Japan right? I bought that already. I hope this one is worth getting too.

     The cover looks great.

I might just buy this again just for the sexy cover.  Already have the LE edition, wouldn’t mind more DS swag.
