No Connectivity Between New Super Mario Bros. 2 And New Super Mario Bros. U

At a Nintendo developer roundtable this evening, Nintendo confirmed that there will be no inter-connectivity between their two upcoming Mario games—New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS and New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U.

Why not? Because, Nintendo say, the two Marios are being made by different teams. Each team has its own ideas of what to put in their game, and there are no shortage of ideas for them to draw from. Additionally, both games are being designed for two entirely separate systems, and the purpose of each game is to highlight the features of the system it’s on.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo 3DS will be released on August 19th. Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. U will be released sometime this holiday.

    Sounds reasonable to me.

    its reasonable

  • pressstart

That’s a lame excuse, but if there’s no reason to have the interconnectivity, better to not shoe horn it in.

    • Rollersnake

Agreed, except I think it’s a perfectly valid excuse.

  • So basically they saw no gimmicks they could quickly add for cheap, but honestly since the wiiu isn’t out yet I suppose we were being too hopefull. How Nintendo got away without showing us retro studio’s new game is the true fail of e3, and aside from the f-zero nintendo land game that series was also missing. Also I expected at least 1 playable demo from e3…. life is soo unfair. ohh nevermind… carry on
