Score High Ranks In Metal Gear Rising To Buy Upgrades For Raiden

By Kris . June 5, 2012 . 2:32pm

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has large stages for a reason. According to producer, Atsushi Inaba, they’re designed so that the player has the freedom to approach situations in multiple ways. You can choose to be stealthy, or you can face enemies head on.

You’ll also be graded when you complete missions in Metal Gear Rising. Like in other action games, the better your grade, the more points you get. These can be used to buy upgrades for Raiden. Grades go all the way up “S” rank.

    Expected and awesome.

There, now I wonder if people will stop crying about there being no stealth and it being “nothing” like when Kojima productions was handling the game (even though, even back then Kojima had little to do with Rising and it incorporates many of the features that were in the original unveiling).

Ntways, the game looks awesome and hopefully they’ll put out a demo on PSN sooner or later (preferably the former).

Oh yeah I had completely forgotten about that, hell its the main reason I preordered ZOE HD (I mean I was gonna buy it anyway but that announcement made me instantly go to Amazon).  I’ve only played ZOE for about 15 mins a couple years ago and while it was interesting, I never got to actually get fully involved, hopefully ZOE HD will bring me into the fold of what many call another one of Kojima’s masterpieces.

The picture made me think this was Ninja Gaiden for a second lol.

I’m glad they’re going the Deus Ex route and letting people go stealth or go head to head with enemies.

Time to get all Bronze again!

nice stuff hope this get ported to wiiu…

YESH!!!!! Though it reminds of tenchu when you choose to be stealthy and if you mange to not get caught and accumulated the points to get grandmaster rank including the stealth kill BUT EITHER WAY THIS GAME IS GONNA BE BADASS!!!!
    God I love Siliconera.

I have my doubts about the stealth part. Based on Gametrailers’ demo of the game, it is neither implemented well into gameplay, nor does it seem to contribute to the end (mission) rating. Instead, kills earn points. Take a look:

Mission rankings? Sweet. I’m also glad they’ve approached the design in a way that lets you pick your approach. That’s a bit of Metal Gear DNA that’s nice to see kept.

Wow, everytime I hear the news or watch a new trailer of this game, the game keeps making me excited more and more. Can’t wait to get those Bronzes in my 1st playthrough. :D

And upgrades? Yay, sounds DMC/Bayonetta-ish. Hopefully there’s also accessories we can equip and buy to make the gameplay more varied like in Bayonetta. :)

Wow… yeah, based on the trailer that l777l posted, the “stealth-approach” really seems more like lip-service than anything else. Now that COULD just have been a tutorial-passage and stealth may play a bigger part in the real game, but if what I saw in there was true there’s really no question that this is TRULY an action-game. The enemies acted like they couldn’t even HEAR Raiden, combat was always a valid option, and you could quickly switch between different weapons and dodge bullets like they were nothing.

It’s like… you CAN choose to be stealthy. But why on earth would you when the game seems to actively encourage action?

  • Scallion

    …Wait.
You mean, I can get upgrades by playing the game often and excellently, rather than buying them with cash?

    What an amazing concept!
    10/10 first day buy
