Change The Future With One Kiss Or One Punch

By Spencer . June 8, 2012 . 5:05pm

Time Travelers from Level-5 is a story based game where you’ll see the plot unfold through the eyes of several characters. Events in Time Travelers run parallel and the choices you make in one plotline can affect another character’s story. So, that seemingly innocuous decision of kissing a high school crush can have a butterfly effect.

In between the event scenes, Time Travelers has playing cinema sequences, which are essentially quick time events. You’ll play through these when you get into a scuffle as the masked hero Ressentiment or Detective Soma.

Time Travelers comes out on July 12 in Japan.

  • And this is coming out in English when?

God, why must news sites torment us with games we’re never gonna get?

    • Herok ♞

Trust me, everything has change to be released outside of Japan just this week we received word that both Fire Emblem and code of princess were leaving Japan.

      • KuroiKen

Actually, not. Not everything has a chance to be released outside Japan, due to being too “niche” to be profitable, and I seriously doubt anyone would release something that is not profitable at all. That’s why all the dating simulators aren’t ever coming out in the west(and I actually thank gods for that, since I’d never want to hear TokiMemo or LovePlus dubbed), that’s also why some jRPG and side-scroller games aren’t ever coming out in the west.
Fire Emblem was kinda a given, considering how popular the series is. Code of Princess is kinda a surprise, though, but not really much.
Anyways, just my opinion, since I play japanese games in japanese, so no worries about localizations at all.
Time Travelers has near to zero chances to get localized as of now.

        • LynxAmali

          – Time Travelers has near to zero chances to get localized as of now.

Neither does it have 0% chance of getting localized. It’s 50/50, simple as that.

Since Fate/Extra and Haouki got released, I don’t believe in 0% anymore when it comes to things getting localized.

          • KuroiKen

You seriously need to consult a tutor in propability theory. It doesn’t have 0.5 propability, that’s for sure.
Hakuoki did get localized, but…was it popular? In bloody Hell no.
Fate/Extra got localized and sold pretty well, that’s right(even better than in Japan, AFAIK), but that’s just the TypeMoon fanbase that did it.

          • LynxAmali

-Hakuoki did get localized, but…was it popular? In bloody Hell no.

Already had an existing fanbase due to the anime years back.

-You seriously need to consult a tutor in propability theory. It doesn’t have 0.5 propability, that’s for sure.

Why? Because I’m not being pessimistic and hope it comes out here? And 50/50 means that it could either way. Just saying.

Word your sentences better so they don’t sound like your insulting someone too, okay?

          • Phlo

A 50% chance of localization seems pretty generous to me, too. You’re also kind of arguing against yourself, Lynx. Hakouki may have had an existing fanbase due to the anime, but Time Travelers does not have that advantage.

          • KuroiKen

Hoping and numbers don’t match, that’s all. If you get a mathemathical value of propability of TT coming to the west – it’s far less than 0.5, that’s all I was talking about. Hopes have no deal with what I was talking about.

          • usagi_san

@Phlo:disqus You can’t compare something that has an anime and manga which leads to the basis of a fanbase, but Time Travellers can only create a fanbase if it is given the opportunity to be exposed to people. This is why advertisement of new IPs mention who are involved and mentioning their well-known achievements (Level-5 is known for the Professor Layton series). That would pull in some interest.

@LynxAmali:disqus Continue to be optimistic for this title, cos I am too. I really want a western release.

Hakouki WAS popular they promoted the interest for the game and since thye got a favorable response thats what caused them to put in the effort to localize and it paid off for them since the game sold well based on what was shipped out. If a game is good it can be localized it just needs proper promotion and marketing. This is simple logic.

        • Kevadu

“That’s why all the dating simulators aren’t ever coming out in the west”

          Tell that to MangaGamer.

          • Guest

             Is Mangagamer on PS3/360/3DS/Vita/WiiU?

            no don’t think so.

  • James Beatty

Looks very pretty…but if it’s mostly a QTE game like the ps3’s heavy rain and Ellen page simulator i’m not sure if I want it

    • xavier axol

what the name of the chick you play in heavy rain again? she was pretty hot!!! (i really like her cute short hair, soo much so that i think it’s better than the real actres’s hair she play as)

    • Guest

Oh Ellen Page simulator! Aren’t you cute. not.

  • Jugiatsu

Gotta admit this has my attention.  Would love to see it come stateside.

    • revenent hell

Oh i second this. In a way it reminds me of radient historia with the timelines but with so much more? I realy want to play this:)

  • PizzicatoSpirit

Ooo this keeps getting interesting and looks fun. I like doing choices and I don’t mind QTE

I think I just might import this title.

  • Shadowman

This looks awesome the whole quick time event and everything. This is a must have video game for sure.

  • Kitestwinblades

Kinda like an Anime styled Heavy Rain… From… Level-5!? SOLD
Looks really interesting to boot :3 I Hope we get this one.

I’m already excited about getting Virtue’s Last Reward XD
    Its not cake, btw.

  • kool_cid414

I want this game. This could really establish the 3ds as an all around handheld with content both suitable for the family and those seeking something with a bit more depth without worrying about zombies. I really think this could be popular if given a chance. I personally think more games like this would be released here if it was given the attention a mario or zelda game does.

    • Bentan

       senran kagura wins all

  • AzureNova

Time Travelers looks really really good. “Sigh” I hope this will make it out of Japan so we can all what looks like a really awesome game.

  • Bentan

    punch your high school crush

    • ….tht somehow causes sh*t to happen in the future.

  • NIce! I hope this will get localized… I love game that have deep storyline

  • usagi_san

I would double dip for this game. PHWOAR! If a game like Asura’s Wrath can make it, that I hear is mainly QTE-ing. Then, a game in which the QTEs play a more significant role in which way the timeline goes, needs to be localized.

Nintendo, especially, owe it to 3DS owners. Even if only America is confirmed for localization, I will import it. What can I say… Steins;Gate has got me into time travelling.

    • Guest

Hey Dragon’s Lair started it all.
      Then Space Ace.
Then Lupin the Third (Cliffhanger Arcade)

      • usagi_san

I’m not saying that QTE hasn’t been around before these titles were made. I’m just stating that if a game like Asura’s Wrath can make it here, then Time Travellers should have a chance.

        • Its a VN…… But let’s think positive!!!!

          • usagi_san

            Will do, will do.

  • Speedo Redempteur

    HUM hum this looks good

  • Looks interesting.

  • I sense a “INSERT NAME SCREAM” coming soon……
But I don’t think they will go into S;G lvl…… or not. Localise this plz!!! And S;G too!

  • Margaret Chan

Level-5 you do have fans in the US / NA who would love to see this and others. :3

  • boundries_san

So…… i can change future by doing Galaxy Kiss or Falcon Punch???

      I Choose You, Time Travelers!

  • Göran Isacson

Now, what I’m curious about is if both these choices lead to different routes, or just “bad end/good end” splits. I know that technically the time-travelling game of my dreams where there are INSANELY complicated twists depending on even the most minute changes is impossible, but I would so love it if they would make the outcome more complex than just “You kissed the girl and now everything is honky-dory” or “you didn’t kiss the girl and you die unloved and eaten by a pack of roving wolves”. If they can do that, I’m game for this.

    • Maybe you should play/read/watch S;G 1st while w8ting 4 this to get translated. I haven’t ply it yet but I heard there already a ‘subbed version on9.

    • Joanna

Technically speaking, it’s the girl doing the kissing, so she’d be the one to die unloved and eaten by a pack of wolves. xD If you watch the trailer closely, you see that the choice not to kiss has her move away and say something along the lines of “maybe not after all”. (All that anime watching is paying off~)

Although I’m behind you 100%, I want to see the outcome be something more than just you have a side romance.  He seems like he’s researching something (is that a mecha? lol.) in the trailer though, so maybe getting into a relationship with him will unlock something that can trigger a different ending? That is still rather simplistic, but it would be a good starting point.

  • Lisa Fraulein

Damn, I so need a walkthrough to play this. So MANY possibilities. And can I say I just love the song starting 1:26?

  • Joanna

Thinking back to the first trailer, I recall it gave out sort of creepy/horror vibes. I wonder if the direction changed or if that part in the subway will still make it in. Also no ruined city anymore like in the concept art? I seriously want to see that (maybe I’m too addicted to Chrono Trigger’s time travel story xD ). Anyway, I guess my point is that the game has changed a lot from the reveal art and initial trailer. Not a bad direction at all and it’s still very intriguing, but I sure hope the creepiness and mystery of the ruined city do play into the game somehow.

Also the game looks a little too dramatic at times. The kid lets go and dies? really? I don’t know, that doesn’t seem realistic to me. I think that’s the only part that bothered me, but maybe it will make sense in the actual game. Overall looks good, if a bit more action packed than I would like as I kind of preferred the creepier atmosphere.
