New .hack//Versus Videos… Hey Tsukasa Can You Stop Throwing Rocks At Me?!

By Spencer . June 18, 2012 . 2:45am

CyberConnect2 created a fighting game for the .hack series and .hack//Versus has two very different fighters in the roster. Tsukasa plays keep away by making rocks and other projectiles appear. Tsukasa can also summon the Twilight Guardian to attack (a friend in a fight… wasn’t Tsukasa a loner?)

Ovan gets in your face and dishes out 100+ hit combos with the help of AIDA. Ovan can also draw the power of Corbenik to deal serious damage.

.hack//Versus is included in the .hack Hybrid Pack which comes out on June 28.

Everything about that first trailer is totally bizarre. I don’t even know what to think.

Still kind of hope this makes it to the US though.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Throwing rock??? I thought that was one of the spells there?
And about the Twilight Guardian there, it has become Tsukasa friend since the start of .Hack/Sign.
And when i first heard about 100 combo about Ovan, i thought he will be crazily OP there.^^ but it seems i am wrong considering all the combo/moves there seems a bit delayed which mean can be easily cancelled.^^

    • Landale

Been quite awhile since I’ve seen the anime, but I’m pretty sure “friend” isn’t the word to describe it. More like exactly what it’s name is, a guard. Specifically a psychotic guard against the potential of wanting to leave the game. It “obeyed” if any orders involved attacking other players. Not attacking them, on the other hand, was typically ignored.

      • Scott

i definitly believe there was a friendship element there, in as much as u can with a wailing dumbbell monster. but i agree with Landale, it was psychotic and over protective, but not completely so. it did show some kindness and compassion i think toward the end.

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I believed Tsukasa does care about the Guardian there and i remember that the Guardian also allowed Tsukasa to touch it there.(Maybe more like a pet there though lol.^^)

      • epy

I’m rusty on my .hack lore but I remember the Guardian being given to Tsukasa by Morganna to manipulate him (lol) into staying in the game among other things. When Tsukasa rebelled the Guardian turned againts him (lol) but in the end it went againts Morganna and sacrificed itself to protect Tsukasa and the others.

EDIT: Ah, forgot Macha’s role in the whole thing…

  • Lightthrower

Doesn’t look… too hot… looking forward to the movie more :-)

    • puchinri

Oddly enough, I’m looking forward to both quite equally. I am a bit more eager to play the game though.

  • Curan_Altea

Ugh…. Still don’t know who I’m gonna main……. Probably Kite or Haseo……. Maybe Tokio, he looks interesting. I want to see Shugo in this just because I want to see how they’d handle it.

  • Scott

that Tsukasa fight seemed so pleasant due to the music.

so it’s kinda a dissidia sort of thing. which i dont think is bad. i like seeing more RPG fighters.[dreams of seeing a SEGA fighter with Ryudo, Vyse, and Phantasy Star guys] i like the looks of that dodge mechanic. and i never realized this, but we rarely ever go to see Tsukasa’s player powers. we saw him melee fight Crimson Knight, but that’s about it.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Umm Tsukasa is Wavemaster lol.^^ You can’t be serious asking her to fight melee here don’t u?^^

      • Scott

i dont have a playstation so all i know about the details like that are what i got from the shows.

        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well you should try to get one here lol.^^ Considering now PS2 should be quite cheap and .hack series(7 game.) Should not be very expensive?

          • Scott

im watching a .//hack games lets play on youtube. up to the last game before GU. not so interested in the first set of 4 as they seem.. generic-y. not in a bad way, im just not big on it. but i like the story.

          • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, .hack games gameplay would be quite dated there after all the game has been released for quite a time however i can said that the story is really nice there which is probably the main reason why many gamers and also i follow the game till the end.^^

  • OatMatadoQuatro

“Tsukasa plays keep away by making rocks and other projectiles appear. ”
The fighting style fits Tsukasa’s personality

    • I remember he used to just disappear into thin air, too.
And he had the nerve to cry when he got slapped.

  • Göran Isacson

Dissidia style fighter, if a little bit slower and less about aerial acrobatics. I like it- it probably suits shows that are more about visual flare and style than absolute pixel-perfect balance. Have to admit that Tsukasas song felt totally out of place in a fighting game though.

    • Not Dissidia-style. Ultimate Ninja Storm-style.

  • Ovan’s battle theme fits, whereas I find Tsukasa’s… Too pleasant/cheery.

    • Zonic505

Agreed. It really feels out of place for a fighting game. It’s not bad, but I would never think of it as music to put during a match in a fighting game.

  • NorthernPatches

I’ll pass. I’d rather have my .hack in rpg or movie form.

    • puchinri

Would the movie the game is paired with count?
I really want both myself, but it’s been a long while so I touched anything .hack, so maybe that’s influencing how excited I am for both.

  • Anime10121

Although the Ovan music sounds like something straight outta Ninja
Storm, I frekin LOVE the music playing through the Tsukasa fight, it
sounds completely different and sorta “Nights into Dreams” like :).

I want this game! Namco make it happen, give us the game/movie hybrid, you
have NO reason not to since its not a fully fledged RPG and you wont have anywhere near as much text to translate!

  • Oni123

Is it just me or does the music sound a little too similar to ultimate ninja storm ?

    • dot hack and Naruto storm series are both made by CyperConnect 2 Afterall

    • Same composer.

      • Curan_Altea

Same composer, but I prefer the music in .hack//g.u. better…… It’s good, but not as good as what I expect from .hack//…….kono basho wo dete aruku michi no koto wo kangaeru
sora wa mada hayai yuugata, kumo ni iro wo nokoshite
tonari no kodomo wa onaji uta mou san do mo utatteru
owaru kotoba omoi dasezu saigo dake zutto kurikaeshite…….Sorry

  • Cephrien

    These aren’t character themes that are playing in the videos. It’s just music that plays when you’re on that stage. xD;

  • Localization! HNNNNNGGGGGGG >_<

  • Wow! hack/sign is still the only part of the series I watched, and I enjoyed it, so it’s good to see a reprise of on the starring characters.

  • Prinnydoom

“Come the rebirth, Corbenik!!!” sorry had to be done >___< This is gonna be amazing.

  • this game looks so good!!! XD the music and game engine seem to resemble that of ninja storm. it is just so much sexier looking!

  • Sweet! Just what I expected from CyConnect!
But I do hope that what I just saw doesn’t indicate that there’s no dodging…

  • I wish this would be localized just so i can hear Yuri and Jamieson ham it up again.

  • Already importing :)

  • IshimaruKaito

    i found my cheat character!

  • Shogunreaper

Either that guy sucked or that character is ridiculously cheap (first video)
