New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Be The First Mario Game With DLC

By Spencer . June 21, 2012 . 8:41pm

imageNintendo plans to add extra content to New Super Mario Bros. 2 post launch as downloadable content. Players will be able to purchase extra Coin Rush stages, a new mode where you try to collect as many coins as you can before time runs out.

Satoru Iwata announced the news during Nintendo Direct, but didn’t say how much extra stages would cost.

I just hope Nintendo never goes down the route of withholding content to be sold to us as DLC…

That would just break my heart.

DLC stages and entire worlds could really add more value to Mario games; imagine a Super Mario Galaxy U that adds entire new galaxies for a few quid. Obviously the pricing and number of stages needs to be worked out, but I have faith that Nintendo can do this right.

It sounds good on paper. Still going to withhold content in a sense if someone happens to get the game after the service goes down. I’ve been overlooking the event exclusive pokemon, but now it is going to be a weakness in most games that ownership of a game doesn’t mean you have all of the praised features even if you pour 000’s of hours.

I’m seeing the Koopalings, which is always cool, but there’s one missing…

¬†Bowser Jr. isn’t counted as one of the Koopalings.

He’s probably waiting in the air ship.

This is what i have been dreaming here.^^ As long as the DLC price is reasonable and the main purpose is to increase the longetivity and lifespan of the game here, i am so going to support ths.^^

I’ll take old expansion packs over DLC any day of the week. I refuse to buy it since it looks pointless to me.

    • Arrei

Aren’t additional stages in a Mario game equivalent to expansion packs?

      • AlteisenX

I don’t want dlc for my mario games first of all, and secondly I’m reminded of those “?” mark boxes in Super Mario Land 3DS. They were lame, and I hope this isn’t what they have in mind, with miniture stages. I’ll reserve judgment, but it’s not likely I’ll ever buy it.

Heck! Give us the bosses from Paper Mario redone to work in a traditional Mario game!  I want to fight the Koopa Bros again T.T
