It Takes Three Medics To Keep One Etrian Odyssey IV Alive

By Spencer . June 25, 2012 . 11:58pm

A new video from Etrian Odyssey IV shows a party with a damage absorbing Fortress class warrior, a Dancer, and three Medics. The Medics, as you would expect, are the healers in Etrian Odyssey IV. These warriors can cast spells like healing, full healing, and line heal which restores HP for a row of characters. The most important spell in this battle is refresher which negates poison.

Etrian Odyssey IV comes out in Japan on July 5.

Return of the brutalness o_O, EO3′s FOE were cake compared to this!

BS! unless you were using a certain party, this one shows some challenge, but that’s always the fun

      • Ferofax

exactly! the fun starts when you start to romp on non-cheese/non-standard parties. then the pride swells.

but then of course, the dungeons will still eat you up whole, from time to time, if you’re smart and know when to run and when to fight.

Hot dawg! This game looks soo much fun and rage provoking. I think this will come to the west some time next year if Atlus gets to it.

  • Exkaiser

I like how this FOE attacks with a casual tail whack.

A casual tail whack that slams the entire party for moderately high damage and poison. Lovely little bugger.

….. It takes……… three medics…… to taste the pain from F.O.E longer there.T_T
And not to mention, the death of the last medic there and the video cut over there is probably going to be real example when most gamer are playing and sees one of his healer dies and RQ immediatly lol.^^

Which is why I’ll probably stick with the 7th Dragon series; if the series will maintain the balance of challenge and fun like 2020 did, I’ll get the next game on release date.

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well.^^ I myself love this kind of challanges lol.^^ Considering i still think nowadays game are a bit too easy here but well yeah not everybody will like too challanging game here.^^

According to my opinion there, 7th dragon series is also a very fun game there but not difficult enough lol.(I am becoming M truly because of all my childhood here.T_T)

If you love frusturating difficulty which will keep pulling you to play the game, this game should be a good choice.^^

I’ve played the first game for hours grinding before giving up. Difficulty as challenge is one thing, but what deters me from Etrian Odyssey games is that they demand investing a large number of hours building up the party before they get enough tools/facilities to even stand on equal grounds with the environment – and that extra build-up time is something I just can’t afford. In contrast, 7D20 lets people skip the grinding/building-up, gives you facilities that are useful/potent enough to stand up to the environment, and overall lets you experience its challenges directly.

7D20 was definitely not as hard as EO games – although it still was plenty challenging compared to many RPGs – but I don’t think that’s what Imageepoch is trying to do. They seem to be making the old, relentless dungeon-crawler formula accessible to the general audience, and I see that as a great step to invite more players. Even though they belong to different companies, I consider both EO and 7D series as “complementary” to each other within the dungeon-crawling formula; one for the dedicated, one for the casual.

          • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Yeah.^^ It is just a different target here i think. Etrian Odyssey series has always been famous for its difficulties.
And i believe if they suddenly make it easier, you are going to see the same case happening to Fire Emblem lol.^^(Where the fan fight each other only for perma-death.T_T)

Well at least 7th Dragon is also very fun to play especially the latest series on PSP where we can get some sidequest from Miku.^^

EO3 eliminated a lot of grinding. You get could through the main game with just progressing through each floor without ever having to grind unless you were leveling up a new party member.

What about the Skills and the Skill Trees? Are the skills potent enough to be useful now? Do they still work on the 10-level upgrade system? Do some Skills still need certain prior Skills at certain levels to be available?

  • cj_iwakura

Medics are also brutal first-line fighters, as any EO1 vet can attest.

  • Archenyte

I love how poison always does around half your HP in these games. I need to pre-order this.

Please localize this along with 7th Dragon 2020 :3

  • NorthernPatches

Can’t wait to have my party wiped out by one poison attack because I always forget to prepare for that.

  • Kyle D. Johnson

Since when has EO’s music been so rockin’!? This is amazing!

  • Ferofax

oh god, you need three healers now?

    THEY UPPED THE DIFFICULTY! *faints*

  • HatsyaSouji

This is why I like Totomono/Class of Heroes more the EO. They may have allowed me (EO) to create maps, but putting an FOE is much like asking the whole Particus class to beat you up with their best Gambit ever.

And I am more role-playing more in Totomono compared to EO because of the voice acting supplied on the characters. Sorry, ain’t buyin’ a DS for the EO series, even though Pit of Kid Icarus nags me.

  • TNT_96

No offense but you are suppose to have the fortress ( Tank ) at back lines, since it reduce dmg :D unless they changed it.
