Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Coming Next Year

By Spencer . June 25, 2012 . 12:09am

imageCyberConnect2 is already hard at work on a follow up to Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations. Namco Bandai announced Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with a teaser site.

V-Jump reports Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 will have an expanded story mode that starts from the very beginning of the series when the Nine Tails attacks Konoha. A screenshot shows the Third Hokage fighting the Nine Tails on a rooftop. Another screenshot with the Fourth Hokage and the masked man "Tobi" in a battle. It looks like the replacement jutsu meter introduced in Generations is back for this game.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 is slated for release in 2013.

    Oh boy here we go.

  • cjeromek

If the manga has ended by the time this comes out, we may see the whole story in this game.

  • AzuNo17

Gameplay tweaking aside, this better deliver in its roster and stages. rehashes and support only characters are just saddening for a fanservice game. characters shouldnt be restrained to canon movesets (which  CC claims are nonexistant)

Being the 3rd Storm game, this may be the ONE……  like vanilla ultimate ninja 3

  • MrKappa

LOL really? I though they said Storm 3 would come out when the manga was finished? Oh wait, can’t pass up a chance to rip off Naruto fans with no standards.

This game will be just as bad as Storm 1, 2 and Gen. and no one will really care as long as they can play their favorite characters and get an “epic” story mode. Can’t wait to see who the new broken character online is gonna be. Maybe Madara?

    • XiaomuArisu

       HEEEYYY!
As a none naruto fan I have to say that storm 2 was one of the funniest singleplayer bossrushes I ever played.

    • Shogunreaper

Well if this game isn’t out untill next year then the manga will probably be done by then. Kishi has said the ending is already set in his mind.

  • Solomon_Kano

More than new characters, since those are a given, I wish they’d double up on stages. Wait. What am I saying?

GIMME THE DAMN SOUND FOUR CC2!

Ahem. If they’re starting from the beginning, that’s kinda sad. No way in hell they’ll deliver a story mode like Storm 2′s starting all the way back there. Well, I hope it’s at least serviceable. If it boils down to fight > slideshow > fight, I’ll be beyond disappointed.

    • Fidelis

It’s been my desire for so long that i barely even care anymore, but even more than the sound four I’d like that team of three from the sound that were in the chunin exam to finally be playable in something besides konoha senki.

I just wanna play as Dosu, man. That’s all I ever wanted..

      • British_Otaku

Dosu, mate? So far, I don’t think he was even playable in one of the DS Ninja Council games which tried to fit in everyone they could (but was awful, believe me)…

You may be waiting till after the anime and manga are done for that…
The first Dragon Ball game featuring King Kai as a playable character was a 2011 game. He was introduced in the manga at least twenty years prior…

My personal favourite is Aoba Yamashiro. Dem shades.

      • Solomon_Kano

Sadly, you set yourself up for something impossible. They didn’t even show up for long in the series. If they were gonna appear in any games it would’ve been the first Storm, Ninja Council, or Ultimate Ninja.

  • Go2hell66

ok if this franchise wasn’t being milked already it sure as hell is now

    • DemonKingAsura

Actually, it was confirmed the manga is reaching the climax and ending, that’s why this was announced so soon after generations, because CC2 wasn’t gonna do a new naruto game until Naruto was announced to be close to it’s finishing point.

  • Prinnydoom

“It looks like the jutsu replacement meter introduced in generations is back for this game” God dammit thats what made generations the suckiest game so far. And now its back auugghhhh >___< Come on can't people look back to the good old days when you had to have a bit of skill to use replacement. Aside from that i hope the include boss battles in this one should be interesting to see if they learn from their mistakes.

    • British_Otaku

If you look at competitive matches or online ones, it was always sequences of spamming the sub button anyway. Unless they increase the cost of substitution to a Clash of Ninja level, it was bound to be near broken.

    • sasuke222

Skill? In Storm 2 all you got to do was mash the RT button to sub practically EVERY move. My little brother can do that!

    • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

You didn’t need skill to use substitution in previous games….you could just spam the button. Now you actually have to know when’s the best time to use it, otherwise you’ll run out quick and be left to die.

      • Cloud_ST

I agree with you but using guard sometimes instead of spamming substitution was a strategy in past games to avoid spending too much chakra.

        • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

You could still guard in Generations, though. It was just a different button.

          • Cloud_ST

Of course,my point was that there was some strategy to it,it wasn’t just spamming in past games.

  • British_Otaku

Off topic: Am I the only one who is looking forward to a new Clash of Ninja/Gekitou Ninja Taisen instead?

I would hope this game doesn’t cut back on characters like some people think it should… >_>

    • Go2hell66

personally i’d prefer they go back to accel style games

      • http://dyiele.wordpress.com/ Penguins Can Fly

an accel style game WITH ALL CHARACTERS in it. it’s a big turn-off on how they cut back characters every time they make a new one.

        • British_Otaku

Not really someone for the UN/S in general, though if we are going to be playing a fanservice game with pretty Ougi. We may as well have everyone without cutting back, right?

On the note of cutting back, am I correct to say that only Storm is responsible for cutting back? See UN5 vs Storm. In which case, it has the fortune of at least having the excuse of having a new gameplay engine and completely new models and all. DBZ games have been cutting content this generation when the animations, voice clips and gameplay style is the same (or worse).

    • sasuke222

That series was garbage after GNT4. Rev 3 was okay too but it wasn’t great.

      • British_Otaku

I would say that GNT4 was the peak of the GameCube games, but Rev3, Rev2 and Special are the peak of the Wii games. Still all of them are competitive fighters featuring a fine cast of Naruto characters.

    • venomryu

the problem with that is the team that made those wii naruto fighting games made marvel vs capcom 3 so capcom is most likely going to get the rights if you want that what i hate is this is the same team that made bloody roar games that series that i love to see again

      • British_Otaku

That isn’t how it works. Eighting was hired by Sony to make Bleach games (Sony own rights to PlayStation Bleach games), by TOMY to make Naruto games on the Nintendo Wii and GameCube and by Capcom to assist with fighting games. They don’t belong to anyone. Likewise, SEGA doesn’t own the rights to Dragon Ball games just as Spike made 428 (a visual novel for the Wii which got 40/40 from Famitsu) as well as some Dragon Ball Z games. Or Namco Bandai owning Smash Bros to take a recent example of collabration or hiring.

If TOMY want another game, they will hire Eighting again.

  • Chaheezor

Awesome, if they can fix the KnJ to cost more and lower the regen, then this a full step in the right direction!

EDIT: Also, slight typo in the article title. It says “Shippiden” instead of “Shippuden”

  • Linhua

… so long as CyberConnect 2 is making it… I will not be able to enjoy it… =

    • sasuke222

Yeah CC2 sucks. They should get Ubisoft to make fighting games again cause we all know how that turned out.

      /sarcasm

      • http://twitter.com/samael789 samael789

When has Ubisoft ever made a fighting game? Like… Turtles Smash-Up and that’s it, right?

        • British_Otaku

I’m sure he was talking about the Ubisoft Naruto games which were Xbox 360 exclusive. There were two of them, never played much of them though. The first one released before Storm on the PS3 was announced iirc.

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, the first one came out prior to Storm. The fighting was pretty bad, but Ubisoft had a good thing going with the open-world. I preferred it to the one in the first Storm.

      • positiveemotions

        Arent you from saiyan island

  • Historiata

I find the fact that so many treat the franchises’ spin off games as actual competitive fighting games to be endlessly amusing.

    • aoihana

I think any multiplayer game, especially one with online features, can be a competitive game. So long as there are players that want to go at each other’s throats, wanting to best each other, and the rest of the world, by definition, it is competitive.

Is it a deep, rich fighting game with sophisticated mechanics? That’s another story, but I find your condescension equally amusing.

      • Historiata

You make good points, Aoihana, and I respect your mettle. However, I fear that our definitions of the word ‘competition’ vary in that I desire a more appropriate battlefield where both combatants may express their true potential, without being hindered by faulty, cowardly, shortcuts to victory, whereas you feel that anything that provides a larger pool from which one may draw opponents is such. I still shamelessly look down upon such casual play fancying itself competitive, as it already fulfills its role as a game to be enjoyed without the need to stress over small details.

    EPICNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • darkfox1

There was a scan too but I don’t think you guys show scans for some reason I forget why.

  • XGriever

wow people are hating on the game and its only been announced how about giving it a chance people its still very early days, you never know..they might surprise you :)

    • Patricia

They haven’t given out any details yet so there is nothing to hate.

      • XGriever

exactly, but the pic with minato and tobi you can see what seems to be more sub bars which people are raging over lol

        • Patricia

still they have plenty of time to change that no need to get angry about it.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I really dont think the series will be over by the time this comes out, assuming it comes in early 2013 if they announced it this early, I mean no way can the manga end in just 25 or so chapters.

Going back as far as pre Naruto days is pretty awesome, full storry adaptation with boss fights will make this even more awesome than the game of the generation, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations. Game of 2013 confirmed.

  • xavier axol

how awesome would it be if the tales team make the next naruto game? i’m not knocking down on cc2, they are great and always find a way to out-due themselves. but just me saying, if tales team somehow incorporated what they learned from making all those tales games into a naruto game. it would rock!!!

  • aoihana

I haven’t picked up Generations, and honestly, I had completely forgotten about it. That said, Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, that is, a whole number increment, unlike Generations, should see significant improvement or advancement, character and feature wise. That alone is exciting, it’s not 2.5, or an add-on, it’s the next game in the series.

I hope for a more cinematic story line, and maybe bringing back that adventure and free roaming from Storm 1, jutsu clashes would be great, and it seems like Generations had much more cinematic ultimate jutsu’s, which is something that I truly miss from Storm 1, and although it’s not on the same level, it’s still reminiscent of the first game.

I look forward to see this unfold! (◕‿◕✿)

    • British_Otaku

Don’t forget that a name is only a name. Generations is responsible for advancing the gameplay (substitution bar, cancels and not dropping characters) more so than Storm 2.

Sure, the cinematics are tame in the Generations story mode and there isn’t adventure, but parts of Story Mode in prior games came off as padding or full of contridictions to the manga, anime and game (see NUNS2′s Naruto vs Sasuke conclusion and how Sasuke walks off what should be humilating at the very least).

On the features, you shouldn’t expect Storm 1 specials to return ever. For better or worse, they decided to remove things like Character Intros (chatter between foes before battle), Clashes, Long Specials and such for the sake of online. Still think it is silly as DBZ games have all of the above and just drop the character intro for online (which could have been skipped by either player anyway)…

The long specials were heavily minigame based (meaning being clever enough to trap a foe and land it, isn’t enough to even get your chakra’s worth), so I’m iffy on those. I love Ultimate Butoden and Budokai 3 along with Storm 1 for having super awesome specials, though the minigame cheated you out of it more than it was worth… *Has nightmares about high difficulty CPU on Butoden*

      • aoihana

I see your point! I didn’t really look much into Generations, but I did have an idea about how it improved, or updated the system more than anything else.

It’s kind of how Storm 2 really built on the supporting characters, too. That’s what I meant about Storm 3, I really expect it to add to the system and overall experience like Storm 2 and Generation did.

Yeah, I realize elements from Storm 1 wouldn’t come back, or rather, I don’t expect them to. One thing I really miss are the character intros, they were really engaging, it just really added that build up and suspense to the fight.
I saw some jutsu’s for Generations, and I think they’re more cinematic than in Storm 2, I really liked that! Yeah, I really loved the outrageous jutsu’s and specials from both Naruto and Dragon Ball, they’re really something! (◕‿◕✿)

    • Solomon_Kano

Oh, how I miss Jutsu clashes. That’s like the one thing I want back from Storm 1. Well, I also kinda want the more cinematic Ultimate Jutsu back too, but they’re pretty much guaranteed not to do that. But clashes should definitely come back, they were awesome.

      • aoihana

Yeah, Jutsu clashes were really awesome! They reminded me of the clashes in Dragon Ball, but I think those were more epic! They really should come back! Another thing that came and went were the battles on the walls, but they weren’t very practical, requiring you to launch your opponent against the wall. It was still a cool feature, though! (◕‿◕✿)

        • Solomon_Kano

The Dragon Ball clashes were definitely more epic. I loved how the timing would determine if there was a clash or not. Shoot a kamehameha too late and you’d get hit with no clash. It was also cool that stronger versions of the moves were actually stronger. There was never a clash between a normal kamehameha and a powered up one and so on. Ah, when Dragon Ball was good!

But I would also like to see the wall fights come back. Those would benefit from larger stages though. There weren’t really enough that took advantage of that feature and those that did usually only had one wall. I’m sure it won’t happen, but it’d be nice if we got a Naruto fighter with tiered stages so there were different areas to fight in. I haven’t seen a lot of fighters do that this gen.

  • Christopher Nunes

Awesome! Sounds like Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 will be the best in the series! Why is it that the third game is usually the best of a game series in most cases?

I’m quite happy they’re bringing back the gameplay features from Generations as I’ve gotten it and quite liked it, however I do miss the special intros between characters AND the Ultimate Just clash from Ultimate Ninja Storm 1… in my opinion UNS1 had definitely the best combat system around.

I guess wish they knew that, but I guess they’re making it into a more competitive game in a way which is why they removed such a feature. I cannot wait until UNS3 comes out as I’m totally going to get it! ^_^

I still need to get all the Trophies from UNS1 – 2.5!

    • Davian_Thule

i am glad they didnt have the jutsu clash, but the intros would be good to have in

      • Christopher Nunes

But the Justu Clash were so much fun! ^_^

        • Davian_Thule

I didnt like them i found they dragged the fight out and i had to quit matches halfway through because of them. That is my oppinioun but if they are in i won’t be complaining

  • Abel.exe

Good thing I didnt bought Generations.

  • isfuturebright

    every year….

  • Darkchao45

I think they should wait till the series has either ended or is significantly far ahead. Just released DLC if anything….
