Final Fantasy XIV Ver. 2.0 To Look Even Better At Release, Promises Producer

By Ishaan . June 26, 2012 . 2:33pm

When we last heard from Final Fantasy XIV producer, Naoki Yoshida, he shared that, while Square Enix would debut the game’s upcoming 2.0 version at E3, they wouldn’t release a trailer for the revamped game until they had a steady stream of information ready to follow up with. This will happen around mid-summer, Yoshida confirmed recently. He also provided an update on the game itself.

“As I mentioned in the interviews, 2.0 will be prioritizing the development schedule,” Yoshida says in his latest report. “This means we’ll be focusing on getting to alpha and beta testing as soon as possible. There’s still some work to be done tweaking the graphics, but otherwise it’s all about optimization.”

He continues: “We released some in-game screenshots at E3, but the graphics are still undergoing adjustments—expect to see higher quality at release. We’re working on dusk/night lighting and post processing as we speak.”

Finally, Yoshida also shared the usual list of patch notes, this time for the upcoming patch 1.23 and beyond. “As far as updates to the current version of FFXIV go, this 1.23 series of patches will be the last,” he says. “There are no more large-scale additions or adjustments planned, and all of your feedback will be applied to 2.0—along with the combined efforts of the entire dev team. We thank you for your continued support and understanding!”

Patch 1.23 is scheduled for release at the end of July. From now on, Yoshida promises, you’ll see a lot more talk of Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 from him. Finally, Yoshida also shared an image of a souvenir he received from Blizzard at this year’s E3:

“E3 taught me a lot of things, not the least of which was the scale of the industry and the high level of competition we face,” Yoshida says. “Now more than ever, we’ll be throwing ourselves heart and soul into making version 2.0 the best that it can be.”

Don’t know when or if the console version is coming but good thing they had the mind to wait.

Amazing how the game launched looking like a bag of crap to getting to where the fans actually recognize this as a decent game.

    • Anime10121

Console versions’ supposed to hit early next year.

thy said it should be out around the same time 2.0 comes out

Good luck SE, hope it’s as profitable as XI

I really hope the ending result of the game is good. Looking forward to seeing what 2.0 will bring to the table.

Looking forward to playing FFXIV on my PS3, but hopefully 2.0 will make it a bit more playable for PC so I can get a more worthwhile headstart.

I can’t wait to read the new specs for PC, to see if it’s playable on my boyfriend’s PC. We both agreed, that like FFXI, I’ll be playing on the PS3 and he’d be playing on the PC. The initial release couldn’t run on his PC (he mostly needs a new graphics card, not sure what else), so we’re currently looking into a new laptop (for me — mine died late last year) so that he can still play FFXIV with me. Hopefully SE isn’t stupid and allows both to play together (like FFXI), unlike DCUO (PS3 plays with PS3, PC plays with PC only). Speaking of… I hope Blade & Soul isn’t like that either, lol. Though there hasn’t been any news of that recently.

If anything, I admire Yoshida’s dedication. Tasked with essentially rebuilding an MMO that most won’t give the time of day based on first impressions or word of mouth, yet he and the development team are working their butts off.

Based on my time with the game, all that hard work is paying off. It’s not quite there yet, but 2.0 seems solid and at the end of the day I think it’ll simply boil down to convincing gamers to give you another chance.

I agree here. Considering how player response on their launch is totally disastrous.

Hope that all their hardwork will get rewarded there and the game will do well like ff-11.^^

All this hard work Yoshida and his team are putting in guarantees that I’ll give 2.0 a look when it’s ready for PS3 some time in the future. The fact that they’re doing so much to turn this game around is worthy of a look, and I don’t even play MMOs. I’m looking forward to the final product.

Well it is nice to see great dedication from yoshida here and hope that will also serve as a lesson for SE that by only putting a ff name, it does not guarantee success.

With all their focus here on this game, I hope they will succedd here.^^

I just recently picked up this game and I am very excited to see where they take it with 2.0 when it is officially released. There are numerous good ideas that I’ve experienced so far in the current version of the game and I’m quite enjoying it so for, so 2.0 is something I’m eagerly anticipating as I hope it will increase my enjoyment of FFXIV.

nice dedication but all this effort should be poured into another project like FF XV or obligatory “finish Versus” om nom nom

I wonder if there is any chance of Square-Enix actually repairing the blow to their reputation that Final Fantasy XIV turned into. I mean, eventually patching the gmae into something enjoyable is one thing, but convincing people who got a disastrous first impression to give the game a chance… I seriously wonder if that’s even possible by now.

  • awaiken

thankfully the nature of MMOs allow them to fix the problems with the game. there was NO saving FF13. That game was unsalvagable. I look forward to 2.0 of this game.
