The Only Clue In Ys Celceta: Sea Of Trees Are Adol’s Fragmented Memories

By Spencer . June 28, 2012 . 12:40am

Sure, we’ve seen the story of Ys IV before, but Adol doesn’t remember it. In Falcom’s re-imagining Ys Celceta: Sea of Trees or Ys: Foliage Ocean in Celceta begins with Adol having amnesia. Players will relive Adol’s locked memories in the PlayStation Vita game. He sets foot in the Sea of Trees hoping to find some answers.

In addition to 18-year-old Adol, you control Dulen and Cama too. Players can switch between characters sort of like Ys Seven by using the touchscreen. Ys: Foliage Ocean in Celceta is slated for release on September 27 in Japan.

  • Hm…Amnesia.. Hope it won’t be too cliched, but given that he always kinda lies around the coast after a giant storm, it kinda makes sense that he would get a hit on the head sooner or later xD

    • ragnarok989

To be fair, we know Adol’s history still and this is only his 2nd real adventure (considering Ys 1 and 2 to be the same adventure since they’re back to back) since this is before Ys 3.

But you’re right, it really was only a matter of time until one of those times gives him amnesia…I don’t recall hearing about either of the other games called Ys 4 mentioning amnesia though but I didn’t play them

  • Greek-God88

Currently playing YS7 and im loving it!
Game is really long too im already past 17h
Cant wait for the Vita Ys!!!!!

  • AlteisenX

Still looks amazing and I really hope it’s announced for an English release. It would probably be the incentive I’m looking for to buy a Vita.

  • XSEED ?

  • shurelia_kanan

Hello ! The game has changed his name ! the new name  now is : Ys Foliage ocean in Celceta :)

  • Go2hell66

    Ys foliage ocean? lol nice…

  • cjeromek

If XSEED brings this over I may look into getting a Vita.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Lol and just when i get used with the name Celceta sea of trees here. But well, this game indeed look gorgeous and maybe it is this kinda game that is needed to boost Vita sales.^^

  • i just hope this game will be localized here in the NA/EU regions…
i had/played the 4 Ys games (localized) released for the psp (Ys The Ark of Napishtim, Ys Seven, Ys The Oath in Felghana, and Ys I & II Chronicles)..
i like this game/series, and i really really hope i’ll be able to play this new Ys game in the language i’ll fully understand XD XD

    • Renzouri

Try playing Ys Origins too. It’s currently sold in Steam

  • Leivinia

Let’s just choose a convoluted dictionary definition for 樹海 and stick it into the title:

Ys: Broad Expanse of Dense Woodland in Celceta

The name just sells itself. If/When this game gets brought over, I’m going to petition it for the official English name. It can take up half of the box-art!

  • Female character’s name is CARNA, not CAMA. Just FYI.

  • NeoAthanasius

This game is looking so good! Of course this is Falcom, so I’m not sure why I’m surprised. Finally we get a Falcom approved version of Ys IV.

  • Wagnaria

    Looks very gorgeous.
Though I kinda don’t like how Adol’s missing one of his signature design aside from his red hair… The armor.

  • Brimfyre

I wonder if he is finally going to come out of the closet. Show us a “fragmented memory” of the night him and Dogi spent together that made him up and leave the girl from Y’s II without a word of goodbye.

That or he will be as lifeless and uninteresting of a character as always.

  • They improved the graphics in general, nice.
You can’t do more cliché than amnesia, but I’ll trust Falcom on that one.

I guess it will be the system seller for the vita to me.

  • Adol is just 18 at this time? i wish i’ve gotten an amnesia, beaten evil gods, gargantuan monstrous bosses and cloaked evils while transforming as a roo at the same age.

played every Ys you can name + finished those boss time attacks (haven’t finished VII yet though) so yea, i’m ready for this!

  • Carocaro4

Ahh. This game is going to be a blast! I just loved Ys seven! Goodness I hope some one picks this game up. Sooo much fun.

  • The game looks great and will definitely be helpful in getting me to acquire a Vita sooner. I love the Ys games and so this is hopefully going to be another wonderful addition to the series.

  • jujubee88

Does anyone have any advice on which PSP YS to start on?

The VITA’s PS Store has the following (on PSP backlog):

    “YS: I & II Chronicles”

    “YS: The Oath in Felghana”

    “YS Seven”

Ugh, I know this new YS a seminal game in the series and practically an entirely new RPG for VITA so on that basis I know that I WILL buy it. At the same time, I want to get some good YS styled RPG action in (be it the classic bump-style or “YS Seven” engine type)

Also, I can do without story, but what I would like is a well designed crafting/bartering and battle system.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    • Triplicity

The only crafting you’ll find out of those three is the synthesis system in Ys Seven, so that’s your best bet. Oath and Origin (on PC via Steam) are more representative of “traditional” Ys action gameplay, while I & II are (naturally) remakes of the first two games and don’t play very much like the following games in the series.

      • Brimfyre

Which is a shame because I and II are so unique and fun compared to the zelda clones the series has become.

        • Zelda clones? Really? I don’t know what Zelda games you’ve been playing, but I’ve never played a Zelda game with combat as fun as what I find in those later Ys titles!

      • jujubee88

I will def go with 7. Plus, I recently learned the story is self contained, so it seems like a “no brainier”.
