Unchained Blades Exxiv With Final Fantasy Artist’s Dark Knight

Unchained Blades Exxiv, the sequel to Unchained Blades, brings together another group of talented artists for one PSP/3DS dungeon crawler. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Durarara artist, Suzuhito Yasuda, designed the lead character, Ryuga who’s in the top left. Yoshitaka Amano, known for his work on the Final Fantasy series, drew the dark knight at the bottom right hand corner.

From top left to bottom right, Unchained Blades Exxiv also has artwork from…

Dream C Club artist Haruyuki Morisawa who drew Sofia

Fire Emblem: Awakening artist Yusuke Kozaki who drew Hilda

Luminous Arc artist Kaito Shibano who drew Diane

Xenoblade and Xenosaga artist Kumihiko Tanaka who drew Sieg

Hatsune Miku artist KEI who drew Mint (bottom left)

Rune Factory artist Minako Iwasaki who drew Emil

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Zero artist Katsumi Enami who drew Reisled

We’re not sure who drew the unnamed character next to Amano’s dark knight. Morisawa and Shibano also made promo art of Sofia, which will be used as a B2 size tapestry. (Might not be safe for work link!)

Unchained Blades Exxiv looks like its sticking to the conventions established by the first game, simply called Unchained Blades in the West. You can grab it now for PSP and soon as as 3DS store download.

I’m interested in anything that Suzuhito Yasuda is a part of. That said, the first Unchained Blades is an awesome game. I hope this one comes over too.

    Otherwise I’ll import that sucka.

    That artwork looks awesome! =^_^=

Very impressive art talents on this game. I’d be willing to give it a try. Dungeon Crawlers are a type of game that never feels old. Since I love exploration games.

I like it when different artists collaborate on character/job designs. :3

I don’t know why but Black Knights are so friggin awesome. Always. It’s like natural. <3

  • Dokurochan

Mint sorta looks like Kei just combined his designs of Miku, Rin and Lily to create Mint lol. Anyways, all of the art does look fanatastic but I’m stopping myself from getting too excited as I’m still waiting for Xseed to put the original on the EU PSN.

Not really impressed by any of the designs. Suzuhito Yasuda’s is the only which stands out imo, but the color pallete is pretty boring looking. Sofia, Hilda and Diane’s designs are the most disappointing.
But the idea is nice, having different artists collaborating on a game together is pretty interesting.

I’d say Hilda is fine(boring color palette tho), but I agree with the others. Kaito Shibano just doesn’t have the same level as an artist as others, imo. As for the other two girls it’s the same moefied style we see in a lot of other games and shows. Not bad, but absolutely boring at this point. But I guess the target group for this game is into them.
That’s also why I like the rough designs of some of the male characters. Like the Angel dude or the Black Knight.

And as a Xeno series fan I absolutely adore Kumihiko Tanaka’s art <3

I liked first’s game more, but i like the blondie, and put on that avatar on twitter

Swooooonnn~ Such sexy guys~  Wish (a lot ._.) there was romance options (nothing major but something like Summon Night: Twin Age, Fate/Extra, what seems to be in the new Class of Heroes: Chrono Academy or Persona series) but I can still enjoy it when Xseed localizes this one as well cause they love us~ =3

  • revenent hell

Well I for one would like to see this localised very much. I became a rabid fan of the game and I would definantley buy this day one. Its a decent and fun game that dosent take itself to seriously and I for one enjoy a non dramatical game every now and again..
Xseed please bring this one over to por favor?

    Coolness :D

I like how the individual artists’ styles stand out nicely.  I’m particularly fond of the Yoshitaka Amano character.

Not a fan of any of the designs. They all look pretty unappealing and strange next to each other.

But I kinda like the Dark Knight dude because he reminds of Golbez.

I don’t either but I do like the chick in black on the top middle and the angel looking woman on the left of her.

  • nekoCiel

i just started playing unchained blades and i love it cant wait for this one, localized or not

p.s. kei is the most obvious one XD

  • keithmaxx

I’ve really taken a liking into Suzuhito Yasuda’s characters designs, though I can’t explain why.

Maybe that’s just an effect of him having designed many of the characters in my favorite games or anime.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Lol all the art there looks great lol.^^ And it kinda gives the vibes that each character is not the same like other games.(Especially certain games that focuses on one artist like Growlancer series and Shining series where the character is quite similiar.)

Wow, the most unique of Suzuhito Yasuda design in recent memory. But his sword looks too curvy….

    Black knight just screams KOOOORU.
Hilda, Diane and Mint is not bad too.
