Tales Of Xillia 2 Brings Leia And Alvin Back As Playable Characters

By Spencer . July 3, 2012 . 9:03pm

Famitsu has new details about Tales of Xillia 2 and the sequel to last year’s game has a few returning characters. Alvin and Leia from Tales of Xillia are back as playable characters.

Leia has a more adult-like style and has been studying between the two games. Ludger is the main character in Tales of Xillia 2. His brother Julius is 28 years old and takes care of Ludger. When he’s in a good mood he hums songs. Nova is a new character and one of Julius’ classmates. Now, she handles Ludger’s loan repayment. It isn’t clear if she’s playable.

  • Wow, awesome! Thanks for the info!

  • William Carpenter

Bleh. I hope Leia has a new look for ToX2, her design is super ugly and overdone. Less is more, Inomata!

      • MrRobbyM

Cool. I haven’t played ToX, but I approve of this redesign even though I think she looked fine before.

Are one of those males an Alvin redesign? I’m hoping for the one on the left.

        • leadintea

He’s the one on the right. The one in the middle is Julius.

          • MrRobbyM

Ah well. Still looks pretty good. I think I’m going to like this Julius character.

          • Radiosity

And in-game there he still looks like Aizen. I never really trusted Alvin in the first game thanks to that lol

      • Muffum

I was about to voice my disagreement with the top commenter on Leia’s design, but that new design… Goddamn. At worst, I don’t mind Leia’s ToX design, but her ToX2 design is so much better.

        • M’iau M’iaut

If we are seeing a move to a very adult cast in what seems to be a very adult story, I can’t say I see a problem. I’ve always thought there was much to be mined from moving away from the youth/teen/pre-adult tropes. If nothing else the tropes would be new ones to experience.

Thinking of the amazing things that could be done with the s-links of Persona5 in a college/office setting and if maxing a link led to marriage.

        Here better version: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gamingunion/7481590804/in/photostream/
Leia looks cute with that hat and alvin is like back from studying with Malik XD

        • Radiosity

Her new design is really nice, yeah. I didn’t mind the old one mostly because in-game I never used it (see my above comment, bikini costume ftw) but this one is definitely far superior. Will be losing the hat as soon as she joins though. All I’ll say is thank god for the enhanced attachment system of Xillia :3

          • Nitraion

Hmm since i don’t play ToX 1 i don’t have right too judge her but what’s with the Hate? i don’t understand, is it because her outfit looks like panjamas dress? or something? i know her outfit is not best compere like cheria with mini skirt lol

          • Radiosity

I never said I hated it, I like her old design too to some degree, it’s really unusual and that scores it points (mostly meaning her hair there). Mostly it’s just that the costume is a bit bland and meh though, didn’t look like a huge amount of thought went into it.

        • MrKappa

I liked her old outfit more as it reminded me of Farah who I really like. This new one looks a bit ridiculous, especially the hat, so hopefully everyone can get costumes this time around.

          • Nitraion

I don’t have problem either way of her design, actually she remind me of Natalia from ToA ,Ferah have simple clothes i like it too… actually Tales of eternia have simplest character outfit if i remember :D

          •  Tell me about it…

Most of these comments sum up as “I don’t like her old design because it’s not as generic as I wanted it” or some crap. Must be because of her shorts or something.

Both of her designs are thoughtful. Xillia2’s design is just another case of Age Related Character Development and it just looks good on her.

          • William Carpenter

I never said anything about wanting generic designs, don’t be silly. There’s just such a thing as “over-designed” looks, that’s something any good artist will tell you. Too many straps and belts and conflicting colors, it’s distracting and doesn’t add anything meaningful to the look of a character.

          • @google-f220bea076d70484ed80d066ff356820:disqus

And Leia has neither of those designs you mentioned. It’s not overly designed compared to other characters in this game (or any JRPG for that matter), not even her coat. You want too many belts and straps? Go to Square Enix. I don’t see any conflicting colors on Leia either.  Nothing wrong with little yellow, white, and pink in some areas. So I still don’t know what part of her was distracting, cuz I certainly wasn’t.

        • William Carpenter

DANG, I like that new look. Huzzah, I get what I wanted!

      • William Carpenter

Thank you! I am really happy about this.

  • Darkrise

I hope we get to see more of Elise! =D Milla too! Actually you know what? All the main characters from TOX.

  • 果林

    wheres elise?!?! D:

  • Looking to be more and more promising.

  • AokiShizuku

My only hope for this game is: Please don’t let this be a rushed product.

I’m skeptical considering the gap between the announcement and release date is a little too close. Sure, the earlier we play it but I’d rather have a game chock full of content rather than a skeleton of a game. Don’t get me wrong though, I love Xillia but it just feels like more could have been put in.

    • Radiosity

Given they had apparently started work on this during development of Xillia itself it’s not actually that short of a gap, it just feels like it is.

  • Radiosity

Bit late on this bit of ‘news’ but oh well, I’d already made mention of this days ago after the live stream event :p

As long as my Leia gets another tanlines bikini outfit with ponytail hair style I’ll be over the moon. The appropriate words are: Dat Ass :D

I also really hope she gets better treatment this time around. Can’t say much without spoils but she kinda felt a little bit tacked on in the first game, hopefully this time she’ll get a better role.

Also, pre-ordered my copy a couple of days ago. So expensive :( Even after knocking off 2000yen with my CDJapan points it still came to £55 with shipping.

  • scratchbach

    Alvin’s return pleases me.

    • keithmaxx

As long as he’s a tad less emotional and ways much cooler this time, I’m all for this sequel. That aside, Tomokazu Sugita voice acting FTW!

  • Göran Isacson

Wonder if these two will have three fighting styles to switch between as well, or if that’s going to be Ludger’s signature trait.

    • Radiosity

Alvin already uses a combination of his bigass sword and a gun, so I can’t see why it wouldn’t be possible. Personally I’m inclined towards the Ludgar having that ability as a signature trait however.

  • This “Nova” character sounds to my liking, hopefully =P

  • MrKappa

Glad Leia is back she was awesome. Let us just hope Jude has as little screen time as possible and doesn’t ever join the party, not even as a guest of some type.

    • Nitraion

Lol why? something wrong with jude? XD

      • Radiosity

He spent most of the game being wet and annoying and trying to foist Elise off onto other people instead of taking responsibility for her himself. This annoyed a lot of people, myself included. He wasn’t bad overall as such though and I loved using him in battles, but that wetness was a real turnoff.

        • Speedo Redempteur

he choose the daring milla maxwell to the genius lolli with a mascot character that keep eating his head in the mornings..

          • Radiosity

Going for the one he could never have wasn’t exactly a great plan though ;p

Tipo’s obsession with trying to eat his head was disturbing though, certainly

      • LightZero

Jude is a major Millia’s fanboy who have no sense of pride of self-worth outside of her.

    •  In the magazine there was an interview with Leia’s seiyuu, she said that Jude and Leia act almost like a married couple. So, that pretty much guarantees his inclusion.

  • Jonathan Keycross

Considering that half of the main characters weren´t going to be playable, I feared Ludger was going to be the only playable character. This is great news.
Worst case scenario, they´ll be guest party members, but at least that´s still better than fighting alone.

    • LightZero

I don’t even know why you thought that. Graces (Wii) first trailer only showed Asbel. Then it eventually revealed other characters. Your fears were misplaced.

  • Glad to see a bigger roster for this game. I hope this game will be localized, also would appreciate if I could get the 1st game translated too. If not I’ll just import it.

    • I’m in the same boat. Granted I may just be importing Tales of Xillia anyways when I go on my massive Tales import spree…

      It’s going to happen someday!

  • Brandon001

man, Namco would be making it up to us tales fans by not only localizing ToX original, but 2 as well, plus it would make up for lack of content of the first xillia imo

  • So will this be like ToS2, where most of the playable cast will be inherited from the 1st game?

    • LightZero

Who knows. I’m sure there is a going to be a mix of new and old characters. I would be shock if all the original characters (even Jude) are playable.
