Let’s Take A Look At Nippon Ichi’s 20th Anniversary Vita Game

By Spencer . July 4, 2012 . 9:21am

nisvita1Nippon Ichi has a new Vita game slated for release on August 23. In Special Report Division, you play as Kaede, an investigative reporter who has to produce a TV news program that covers supernatural happenings.

Special Report Division has three phases. The first is where you collect information by talking to witnesses that experienced strange phenomena. Kaede can record conversations with a voice recorder and take pictures of the scene.

After you gather the facts, its up to the player to put the pieces together and crack the mystery. Sometimes you can find contradictions in statements by re-listening to your recordings or contrary evidence in photos. Is everything as it seems?

Then it’s time to go public with your findings. You help Kaede prepare a story for the TV show and the game’s story branches depending on what you reveal or choose not to reveal to the public. Special Report Division’s tale unfolds through illustrated scenes like the screenshots shared below.

    So reveal or not reveal?
    But what exactly?
Something like “a monster looking like a black-haired girl”,if you would reveal it that girl(or all black-haired girls)would get trouble:(

  • Hmmm looks lk the artist responsible is the Another manga artist….No wonder blondie look lk Misaki Mei.

Man I like to watch those type of shows….. The setting reminds me of Scooby Doo and occult Academy.

Also, look at Blondie refection on the mirror. *HINT*

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Hah, this ain’t getting localized sadly.

  • Vampiric

how is this a nis anniversary game?

its not an rpg, srpg or anything that looks like anything from nis

    • Johnathan Lenig-Lopez

Maybe they wanna show they can do more then that?

      • Vampiric

Not for a 25th anniversary title which is suppose to be a celebration of what we love about nis. And thats srpgs.

        The reason they even exist

        • Kefkiroth

So apparently this game won’t be worth “25th anniversary” just because NIS is trying new pastures. ._. Give this one a chance.

    • Locklear93

It just doesn’t look like anything NIS has released outside of Japan.  Look up “Hayarigami” sometime.

      • Vampiric

         i know about that

  • J

All I ask is a prinny cameo. Beyond that, this game looks fantastic.

  • Mister_Nep

The description vaguely reminds me of the Phoenix Wright games. Vaguely being key word here.

I wonder if NISA will consider bringing this out. Since this is so out of the norm for their localization choices I hope they’ll consider this for Western shores.

  • Seems interesting. I don’t know how I feel about this… need some gameplay footage please. I would have preferred a (S)RPG. But if this has good gameplay then I guess it is ok. What about that other game though. Isn’t there a second one we don’t know about?

  • This seems very, very interesting. I’m definitely going to look into this game when I get a Vita. However, I also want to see some actual gameplay footage. Screenshots can only go so far in confirming the worth of a game after all.

  • Jungo

Localize! We don’t have enough adventure style games over here.

  • … I want this oh so very much. ;_;

  • Raharu95

    Me wanty

  • Localize this please!

  • What is this? This doesn’t look like a Nippon Ichi game at all.

    • AnimusVox

Yeah no kidding, I think that’s the main reason I’m interested in this…

It’s not ‘Disgaea’ and their many ports :L

  • This looks like it could be nice. The art and premise are very different from the usual stuff Nippon Ichi are known for, which is neat. I suppose the question is, can NIS resist their usual urge to let the moe aspect take precedent over everything else? Because the mystery aspect does look cool. It would be a pity if it were overshadowed by the usual fanservice.

  • Awesome, this reminds me of when Second Novel was out, so this will be awesome, NISA can do some serious awesome stuff if they want to.

  • Nitraion

Hmm i see game like this tend to be not released overseas ._.

    • Alexander Aubert

we are talking about nis here

      • Nitraion

        Hmm Ciel no surge?

        • To be fair that’s Gust, not NIS

          • Nitraion

Yeah i know usually NISA localize gust game but why sudden exception?
That means even NISA pick game to localize i’m still not convince until they show some gameplay ,VN style game is hardly localize…

          • As much as I’d love to play this game, I agree, I doubt we’re going to get it.

Who remembers these three games? Yeah.

  • Interesting. From how the game is played reminds me of Phoenix Wright. At least the gathering clues and fitting them all together. Would very much like to play this~ (✿❛◡❛)ノ Also like how Kaede looks very mysterious. Wonder if she’ll have a background story.

  • revenent hell

I wont lie if this got localised I would buy a vita for it,now this is  a game that fills me with all sorts of hype

  • Testsubject909

    Color me deeply intrigued…

And I’m wondering if it might take some inspiration from the Ace Attorney series for the whole finding contradiction in statements thing…

  • gaiahatergaia

Not sure if Nippon Ichi unique game, or a crazy Visual novel.

  • Kefkiroth

    Ace Attorney-esque gameplay = sold!

    Hopefully this gets localized.

  • Victoria [Rokuso3]

What? This seems some kind of Ace Attorney adventure. With serious art? Because it seems quite serious!! It’s really different from what we usually see from NIS, but I’m really interested. Too bad I don’t own a Vita (yet), but I hope it gets localized so I can play it someday ^^.

  • Waiting this game in Europe. Love NIS games very much.

  • Alexandra Cordes

    So much want.

  • Slowly but steadily Vita’s getting on fire. Japan has so many awesome Vita games slated for release later this year that it’s hard to argue against it. Unfortunately some of the most unique ones bar AC3 Liberation are Japan only atm. Localizing Time Travelers and this unique piece of interactive entertainment is gonna be a huge pain and I’m afraid few publishers are willing to fund it. Here’s hoping NISA and Exseed pick the games up for the western audiences. I’m buying them in Japan, during my 6 months study abroad period in Tokyo, Sep-Mar. I just hope western Vita fans craving more unique gems will have the chance to experience these games courtesy of NISA or Exseed.
