In Trails of Nayuta, players control Nayuta, an adventurer who digs astronomy, and Noi who can control a special gear. Noi’s gear is often used to interact with stage gimmicks. Take Gear Hold as an example. When you hold down the jump button you can make Noi’s gear emit a beam of light and grab on to a hold marker.
Press R and you can use Gear Shield, a spell that makes Nayuta and Noi temporarily invulnerable from enemy attacks, lava tiles, and poisonous swamps.
Trails of Nayuta is a story RPG, but if you need a break from the narrative there are over 100 items to collect and display in the in-game museum. Insects, fish, fossils, and gems are scattered in the game’s world. Kind of reminds me of Animal Crossing, if Nintendo designed it as an action RPG. Trails of Nayuta comes out on July 26 in Japan.
