Digimon World Re:Digitize’s Blackened Monsters Are More Vicious

By Laura . July 10, 2012 . 1:01pm

As previously reported, Nick’s father, Prof. Petrov, works at GIGO Company—the sole provider of Internet services after servers all over the world crashed. This monopoly has spread into all areas of people’s lives, including stocks and credit transactions. GIGO even has a hand in maintaining the government.

Professor Petrov, who lives with his son in the same apartment building as the protagonist, is portrayed as a slightly socially awkward man, but he loves his son. He had been researching the “Digitalization Phenomenon,” the transformation of real life matter into digital data, before he’d disappeared a few weeks prior to the beginning of the game.

However, the heroes then find him in the Digital World, standing alongside the darkened monsters.

Blackened monsters are Digimon who have been infected by a black aura and, because of this, run viciously rampant. The reason for this is hinted to be related to the termination of a terminal where File Island logs all its data—the Memorial Stella. The larger they grow, the more distortion they cause in the Digital World around them as they absorb the data around them. However, as this causes the Digimon’s body to become unstable, and as such, very aggressive.

This week, Namco also released images of Digimon fashion accessories, along with a newly announced Digimon—Tailmon (or, alternatively, Gatomon).

Heh, I like how Gatomon looks with a top hat~ And yes, I call it Gatomon since, to me, that’s a much more clever name than Tailmon.

Really, I wonder why Digimon just sort of vanished in the west. After Data Squad it seemed to completely disappear, since the games stopped coming over and there’s been nothing about plans to bring over Xros Wars.

Then again, after Data Squad ended was about the time that Bandai merged with Namco, and the latter is notorious for not bringing stuff overseas.

    • Hinataharem

Well, I hope Namco sees money in this. Hopefully.

    • Exkaiser

Namco has little to do with the anime end of Bandai-Namco. Might as well blame them for the lack of localization of Gundam AGE while you’re at it.

The reason Digimon just sort of vanished in the West is probably because interest in the franchise itself just sort of vanished. Data Squad had a lukewarm reception at best, and the games released since then haven’t really sparked interest in the franchise.

digimon world ds, dawn/dusk, championship are still localized..
there’re A LOT of playstation games that weren’t get localized for example: digimon park, pocket digimon world series, digimon tamers: pocket culumon, etc.. maybe sense of playing in western are very different from the east.. that’s why

        • Exkaiser

The DS games got localized because they’re relatively low-risk and were on a popular system with a large install base of the demographic for Digimon. Like I said, though, they were met with lukewarm reviews (pretty much all of them basically said “they’re cool if you like Digimon, but might as well stick to Pokemon”) and didn’t really spark renewed interest in the franchise. Kind of unfortunate because they were pretty solid games.

I really don’t think we’ll get Re:digitize, unfortunately, it being a PSP title.. but maybe it’ll get put on the Vita’s store. I’d like to be wrong.

      • Spirit Macardi

Still, it just seems like once Namco was tossed into the mix things went downhill fast. I’ll readily admit though that my assumption is no doubt due to my overall feelings of contempt toward them.

Reading the title kind of thought this game was suddenly based on Season 1 and was about to read about the sudden return of the black gears

Well, likely the final boss of the game is a giant D-Reaper-ish/Quartzmon-ish looking Blackened Monster form.

Yah. Probably that Blackened Monster will continue to fight, run, eat, fight, run, eat and repeat the routine all over again till the end of the game where it would be fought one last time in its strongest form as the final boss.

    • Renaldi Saputra

I was thinking the same.. and who knows it can made some VR digimon like in wonder swan series.. I mean.. zeedmillenniummon..

Thk. And boy its WAY powerful than Adventure one. It almost beat Taiga Agumon.

        • Renaldi Saputra

it’s reasonable bcos it’s nyanko tamer’s.. every digimon even a numemon can be very strong unexpectedly as long as the digimon is owned by nyanko tamer

  • konsama

    This game… if it’s not localized…

    • http://animereviews.co/ Nadav

It’s really too early to be worrying about that. Considering they haven’t shown any gameplay movies (only screen shots) I’d say this game isn’t quite ready even for Japan yet. This is one of these games that could get a localized version, but only after U.S. companies can get a look at the final product and judge it. It’s too early.

      • Renaldi Saputra

gameplay movies?? dude, where have you been until now?? there’re 4 PVs, and there have been enough gameplay reviews to be shown..

        • http://animereviews.co/ Nadav

Only one of those PVs has in-game footage, and even that one PV shows about 10 seconds of game. It is still too early in development. They don’t have a working title yet, or else they would surely show us more.

          • Renaldi Saputra

maybe you need to read some scans from v-jump magazines.. it’s quite clear I think

          • Exkaiser

What do you mean they don’t have a working title?

          • http://animereviews.co/ Nadav

All I meant was that this game isn’t even out yet in Japan. When it comes out in Japan than Western companies would have a final working product they could judge and decide if it is worth localizing. I’m not against localizing it (on the contrary) I just wanted to stress out there’d no need to be alarmed if a Japanese game is not localized before it even reaches the Japanese audience.

      • konsama

The game is out next week, what do you mean by it’s still to early?

  • Renaldi Saputra

    whut?? garbage collection?? LOLL
and that blackened digimon reminds me about zeedmillenniummon.. it runs through dimensions

    • Renaldi Saputra

I mean.. through time and dimensions

  • Nicholas Yee

  • Renaldi Saputra
