Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition Set For November Release

By Spencer . July 17, 2012 . 3:44pm

yakuzahdSega is giving the first two games in the Yakuza series a HD makeover. Both titles will be re-released together as Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition, Famitsu reports.

Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition will be available on November 1 for 5,290 yen ($67). Yakuza 5 is set for a release a month later.

The first game in the Yakuza series came out in Japan at the end of 2005. It’s also the only Yakuza game with Mark Hamill in it. Sega localized Yakuza with English voiceovers in 2006, but stuck with the Japanese cast and English subtitles starting with Yakuza 2.

Update: Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition will have faster loading times, item management in telephone boxes, and the game will check off different food you eat in the restaurant.

If you pre-order the game you’ll get a clear folder with the package art for Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2 cover art plus "dummy packaging" for the PS3 box.

      Once would have been enough…

      • DG_Nick

Not really, not with the way sega is right now. That comment has a desperation to it that I really identify with.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Doesn’t make it any less spammy and unnecessary.

          • Nemesis_Dawn

If it were in the hands of any company other than Sega, I might agree with you.

why would they need to localize it again?

  • TheInternetNomad

just finished the first Yakuza on PCSX2, now i’m tempted to wait before I start the second. Guess every good playstation 2 game is bound to get a HD remaster.

I hope this gets a western release. Maybe even include Yakuza Kenzan (the one in the feudal period with samurais) and the two Black Panther games from the PSP?

    • Solomon_Kano

They aren’t about to add another 3 games that they’d need to localize to something that only contains 2 originally in its home territory. That would be a ridiculous amount of work for what amounts to a re-release.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

It should include a 1986 Datzun 280 ZX and the keys to Graceland too!

Because you’re certainly not asking too much, as it is.

         read my post :P

Mark Hamill’s voice work for Majima was absolutely fantastic in the first game. Definitely my favourite version of the character. The Japanese version is more of a comic-relief character, Hamill’s version was sinister as hell.

    • British_Otaku

Are you talking about the same Mark Hamill who did Joker? *Googles*
Interesting, though I’m hesitant to buy any of the English releases for the game because I’ve heard of cuts, at least for the PS3 ones… >_>

      • Nemesis_Dawn

Only one that got any major cuts was Yakuza 3.

        • Hraesvelgr

And it’s still a great game with plenty of content despite that.

          Definitely worth buying.

        • British_Otaku

I heard Yakuza 4 got off more lightly, but I’m iffy on getting a game with content cuts for localisation for a game even at the expense of having the game in a language I understand.

          >_>

Cuts? Yakuza 4 had no cuts if i remember or at least barely compare to 3 sooo no reason why you shouldn’t get it

      • pho_Enix

Yakuza 3 had some cut content, but that’s the only one with any noticeable difference. 1,2 and 4 are pretty much the real deal.

EDIT: And yes, it’s the same Mark Hamill.

I started the first Yakuza a while ago and was thinking of getting back into it. I don’t want to if this HD version becomes available. Oh please please please localize it…I would LOVE to play 1 & 2 on my PS3.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

I would pick this up in a heartbeat if it were localized, but, well…Sega…

Although on the off chance they do localize it, I would hope they get rid of that awful English voiceover cast and keep it Japanese, like it should be. And I’m not one of those “sub forever” types, but Yakuza is a series that needs to be played in Japanese, even if it the English cast did have Mark Hamill doing his typical Joker thing.

Okay now localize this, announce a U.S./EU release date for Yakuza 5, put up Yakuza Kenzan on PSN (like Way of the Samurai 4 is doing), make a Yakuza Black Panther 1 & 2 HD Collection for PS3 as well, make Shenmue HD collection and get started on Shenmue III already

Oh and make Valkyria Chronicles 2 & 3 HD version for PS3, translate and localize Rent-A-Hero #1 and SEGAGAGA too, and put Segata Sanshiro, Ryo Hazuki, Lan Di, and Kazama Kiryu in Project X Zone

Please do all these nice things Sega

  • badmoogle

If they bring this to the west i hope they include the Japanese VA for Y1.

It would be easy money for SEGA to localize this for the European and North American markets. They already have the translations ready because they did the PS2 versions… it should be doable for us to receive this in March 2013…

And my guess is that both territories will get it on Blu-ray Disc. :)

  • Ravage27

Please come over together with Y5 T.T

  • ddh819

even if its just on PSN in the US i would get it.

  • KOTheWorld

Localization please! And hope Yakuza 1 gets Japanese voice overs
