Elizabeth Is The Ultimate Opponent In Persona 4 Arena (9,999 Damage!)

By Spencer . July 24, 2012 . 1:32pm

Elizabeth, the Velvet Room attendant from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, is back with a vengeance for Persona 4 Arena. Her persona, Thanatos, is supercharged with powerful wind, electricity, ice, and fire spells. Elizabeth can also restore HP with Diarahan and knock opponents out with Mahamaon or Mamudoon. Ouch! Her most powerful spell Megidolaon is a counterattack that hits her opponent with 9,999 damage – an instant kill in other Persona games.

Labrys is a close range fighter with a Bionic Commando or Scorpion-like grabbing move. Shadow Labrys is a different kind of character since she has her persona out for the entire fight.

i love elizabeth’s “foosh” as she does maragidyne XD

I’m going to venture a guess and say the insanely powerful Elizabeth you describe there is the Boss/Unlimited version you fight at the end of a very good arcade mode?

With the slight exception of Nu13 still being more powerful than the rest of the class, ASW has typically been pretty good about balancing boss characters for regular play.

And, for some reason, Elizabeth is in space

Moon to be precise. And 4 those who played P3……. Ya know.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

Did you guys just spoil who the last boss is IN A HEADLINE?!?

    • cj_iwakura

She’s an uber boss at the end of Score Attack, not story mode(not likely, anyway).

We already know who the entire cast is, anyway. Most likely the final boss isn’t her, based on what we know about them.

      • Alex Sargeant

And she’s also capable of that 9999 attack as just a regular player character. So her boss status doesn’t even enter into that video.

    • Herok♞

Score Attack is the only place she is the last Boss. I think for story S.Labrys is the final boss.

    • Dynami

While the other replies are all valid points, they neglect to mention that the title “Ultimate Opponent” is a direct reference to Persona 3. Spoilery specifics follow this line, be aware!

For those who need a reminder/just want to know, the New Game+ exclusive request from Elizabeth in Persona 3 is titled “Defeat the Ultimate Opponent”, which is in fact a challenge to defeat Elizabeth herself. So the headline’s a clever reference, hardly a spoiler of any sort :p

    • Ty Arnold

Are spoilers for a fighting game (and not even Story Mode spoilers) really a big deal?

  • http://Gematsu.com/ Bruno Silva

    Poor, poor Aegis :P

  • Tales_of_Master

Was that “The Battle for Everybody’s Soul” I heard in the Elizabeth trailer ? EPIC. This game is looking great, but why the region lock Atlus WHY >:c I have to wait until the unspecified European release…Sigh….

    • cj_iwakura

Yep, that’s her theme. And I suppose we could get a US PS3 over to you…

    • AuraGuyChris

Blame the fact money rules in every nation are ridiculously different. That’s the region lock.

  • Herok♞

I can see my mains already, velvet room residents and robots.

  • AuraGuyChris

    Oh noez, her armor!

  • MrJechgo

Care to explain why they give Elizabeth 2 OHKO moves ? I mean, yes, they’re delayed, but players aren’t gonna wait for those to activate; they’re gonna hit you until they activate and until they trick not to block. For instance, she might hit you low to trip you (like down-forward + attack) and then launch you into that aerial beam OHKO move.

I would have seen these 2 moves as regular supers that just deal high damage, because they’re delayed, no need for the OHKO part.

    • Valkenhayn

Mamudoon and Hamaon dissapears If she gets hit or blocks an attack, she can only place one of them on the field and not both at the same time. The opponent has roughly 10 seconds to dodge it or counterattack. In this game there are many different ways to turn the tides.
      1. Burst
      2. Counter Assualt/guard cancel
      3. R action
      4. Quick escape
      5. Mini jump into a combo
      6. Use a move that’s invincible on startup
      7. One more! Cancel one of ur attacks and quickly reissue a new attack

      • MrJechgo

So the only way possible would be to use these moves and start a combo or pressure the opponent for that 10 second window.

That actually sounds fairer… yet now, I’d wish that they would deal regular damage (not OHKO) but as a trade-off, they don’t disappear if hit.

        • Valkenhayn

Yeah pretty much, though the easiest way to get out of pressure would be to do a burst which emits a force field with pretty amazing range that blows back ur opponent. And if she does block it’ll make it go away either way.
Elizabeth actually has Invigorate, so she gains SP every second just by standing there but she cannot gain sp by attacking or getting Hirt like everyone else, her combos are very weak, so she needs a lot of SP to perform EX skills to keep up with everyone else’s damage. I heard she doesnt do well under pressure….

          • MrJechgo

Wait, she has an ever-regenerative SP gauge ? Wow, I didn’t know that… and it does sound fair that she doesn’t get any SP when attacking, since, well, she already gains some anyway.

I’ll have to see, she sounds like a dangerous zoner in the right hand, especially if players cast the OHKO spells but then lock you in front of them until they explode. If these spells can normally be easily broken, achieving a KO using them is no small feat, but a major one whenh you do…

Sounds like rage-quitting’s gonna go off the chart with her…

    • TheFoolArcana

Well, they’re actually delayed for ten to fifteen seconds in game rather than the one or two they showed in the video, so there’s no problem. And, if she touched at all they disappear. On top of that, not many people are going to gamble away 50 SP on something that may or may not hit.

    • GWTrinku

The way they work, if Elizabeth is hit at all, no dice.
The range on the ground one is pretty lousy too. You can backdash out of it.
Blocking also prevents them from working.
Elizabeth’s Instant Kill moves are actually pretty lousy compared to, say, Naoto’s and none of them are really practical in an actual match.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.guo.3 Lisa Guo

If you’re talking about Mamudoon and Mahamaon, those moves OHKO because they’re a tribute to the games. Iirc, you actually need to fulfill certain requirements to OHKO or else they’ll just do no damage.

    CAN’T…….CONTANIN……..HYPE……..!!!! (Explodes)

    Those vids were very nice.

Fighting Elizabeth = Harsh Death (Here, have a Megidolaon. Hahaha)

Fighting Labrys = Whipped (And not in the good way)

Fighting Shadow Labrys = Ah, so this is what hell is like? lol (“Make the pain stop”, while being punched through the 4th wall, roasted, and dragged down to the deepest depths of hell.)

Aww i was so hyped for Elizabeth because she has Thanatos, now that she has all this powerful s***, everyones gonna be using her, oh well time to find a new character.

    • raymk

Naw they’ll drop her because she has low health just like akuma in sf.

  • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

It will be awesome if there’s a  story mode for Elizabeth for her quest to save P3 mc.

    • Enigma_XIV

I hope for that every time i think about this game.

  • Crevox

Labrys and Shadow Labrys gets like no description from you I guess :P

  • OatMatadoQuatro

So Elizabeth is the Shin Akuma of Persona

    • Testsubject909

That said, if she’s the Shin Akuma of Persona, think about the person she used to attend to.

Probably for the best that the P3 MC is not in this game. I mean, comparatively to P4′s Yu. P3′s Minato was proficient with all weapons for his physical aspect as for his Persona aspect. Well… If he’d be allowed to have Satan and Lucifer for a combo attack, I know nobody’d stand a chance.

    alli can say is OP

  • Darkrise

Of course Elizabeth will be my main. <3 And why are they beating on Aigis?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

They need a Kenny, tht why.

    • Metalsnakezero

Because Aigis was beating them up in her move set video.

  • IshimaruKaito

hmmmm???? i wonder who my main will be??? “SUGGESTIONS ANYBODY”??

    • DeAndre Atchison

well pascal might i suggest teddie?

      • IshimaruKaito

hmmm…i dont kno im kinda leaning towards chie or yoskue

  • Dynami

Shadow Labrys seems way up my alley… if controlling Asterios is more akin to Relius or JJBA stands as opposed to CARURU CUROBA.

  • Carocaro4

I think Aigis’ “my armor!” is the new “counter!” in terms of annoyance.

it seems my main is surely going to be labryss and aigis here.^_^

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dylan-Ng/100000854638739 Dylan Ng

Did Labrys and Shabrys just broke the camera!?? And I wonder how big is her true form if half of it is not in the ground…..

“Aigis died!!” would be appropriate here ryte?

  • dahuuuundge

    Nooo Aigis why have you become a lowly training dummy ;_;

Labrys’ voice makes me want to cry… I kinda wanted Prishe’s VA or a tough Laura Bailey… buuut… we have an option to stick to Jap VA’s so that’s good too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maan-Bantiles/100003037035258 Maan Bantiles

Oh wait… but I like Shabrys (I know they’re the same VA)… There is civil war within me… I don’t know about these feels.

    • Metalsnakezero

Keep in mind that the Japanese voice for Labrys has a similar tone so it makes no differences when changing it.

      I don’t, I like Cindy Robinson’s take on Labrys.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maan-Bantiles/100003037035258 Maan Bantiles

Well aware of that dood, but sometimes Japanese sounds nice with a higher tone, then there are times when higher tones make English sound a little awkward. Just my taste I guess.

Though I did like Shabrys, the distortion + the high voice made her sound like a very twisted little sister of some sort.

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

The animation sequence for Megidolaon reminds me of Nu-13′s Astral Finish. I’m guessing good ol’ Liz is a boss character for Persona 4 Arena?

  • CasualGamer

Phoenix! Can’t wait to see a pro using her. That ultimate will make for an epic comeback.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/GFQYYWFUR2SBFLKIITVECS5NAI Erik

    “MY ARMOR!”
On a unrelated note…I think I prefer Sawashiro Miyuki’s delivery for Lizzie’s Megidolaon:
“Honjitsu no Grand Finale! MEGIDOLAON DE GOZAIMASU!”

  • Fryxell

I’ve always wanted to main Labrys just because of that gigantic axe.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pokefreaks Nay Aung Latt

I seriously need to play the English version on my NTSC-J Xbox360. I hope the Western releases are not region locked like the PS3 versions.
