Original Fire Emblem Heats Up 3DS Virtual Console

By Spencer . July 25, 2012 . 12:08am

imageNintendo is bringing the game that started the entire Fire Emblem series – Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Sword of Light – to the Nintendo eShop on August 1.

If you have a Japan region 3DS you can see Marth pop out of the screen and unfortunately the Famicom Fire Emblem game will only be released in Japan since the first localized version was the Nintendo DS remake Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.

I saw “Fire Emblem”, “3DS” and “console” in the same sentence, and my hopes got really high.

Either way, this is still pretty awesome. It’s too bad this means the whole world will get to see, once again, how terrible a unit Marth is. I’m sorry, Marth. You’re cool but…

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, “Lord” class have never been a very good unit to use there lol especially in highly competitve play.^_^ It is just Marth is weaker compared to many other “Lord” there.^_^

Marth is honestly not that bad. I mean, sure, he can’t promote, but there’s a lot of characters in that game who can’t. And he gets the supreme game-breaker called the Falchion, which makes up for his middling stats.

Has to be better than Leaf, Roy, and Micaiah, at least…

The Falchion does make things better, but (almost) every single Lord has a weapon like that. (Thani, Sword of Seals, Mani Katti.. etc)

And yes, Marth really is that bad. I haven’t played the game, but I used to have a crazy obsession with the series and I looked up all the growth rates and stuff. Marth is built like Eirika, but with even less defense. If you’re unlucky enough to have a unit hit him twice, he’ll probably die.

I am more than sure that this one will sell well in Japan lol. Considering many Fire Emblem fans in Japan loves Marth there.^_^

      Marth is the coolest. >_>

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Haha.^_^ I know many would probably disagree here lol but i always thought that Marth is kinda cool there lol especially with the 2 new remakes for FE1 and 3 there.^_^

Maybe it is nostalgia there, however i feel that the good old FE 1 that i played on famicom there is surely the first strategy rpg that lead me into strategy game.^_^

Heh. While I never played the original (I never really played many NES (Famicom) game) I loved the DS remake.

Fire Emblem in on NES in Japanese, wouldn’t be so good without any knowing of Japanese. Understanding the text is key in a Fire Emblem game.

Marth <3 the coolest Metrosexual hero ever

  • Sardorim

…Don’t they have Shadow Dragon? The first game has not aged well and lacks supports which is a huge attraction for many modern fans. Even though Shadow Dragon lacks supports it’s still a much better choice than this.

Really disappointing that this won’t be released in NA and the second DS Fire Emblem won’t make it over here either

Im still waiting for Pokemon Red, Blue, or Yellow to become a 3D classic- oh man its like nintendo is mocking us by not doing such a thing.

Doesn’t even need to be a 3D-Class for me just a VC release and I would be happy. lol And you forget Green. Green was Japan only, but it existed.

I really hope we get an import Virtual Console section on the 3DS where you can get original NES/GB/GBC and maybe even SNES games in Japanese…
