Grand Theft Auto III And War Of The Monsters Are Next Week’s PS2 Classics

By Spencer . July 27, 2012 . 12:26am

gta3Get ready to return to Liberty City because Rockstar is re-releasing Grand Theft Auto III as a PlayStation 3 compatible PS2 Classic. The news was mentioned in the PlayStation Blogcast, which also confirmed the US developed kaiju fighting game War of the Monsters.

Sony Computer Entertainment published War of the Monsters, which is kind of like Rampage with four players and a larger selection of characters. There’s a King Kong-like monkey, a Ultraman-like robot, a Godzilla-style creature, and (my favorite!) a giant praying mantis.

Rockstar is also making the PSP versions of The Warriors and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars PlayStation Vita compatible.

its about time were getting some more ps2 classics on the psn

  • Those early GTA games will always have a place in my silent protagonist heart.

I remember a few people (including myself) in an article a while back mention about wanting to play War of Monsters. Welp, our thoughts have been answered!

  • Muffum

…I now realize I’m probably one of a very small handful of people who wants that more than GTA3.

    • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I’m in the same boat as you, my friend. GTA3 was a “cool” fun game, WotM was a “nerd” fun game. I want more nerd fun to be shared with everyone!

Not at all- GTA 3 is good and all, but it’s received several sequels that did what it did better. War of the Monsters is a solitary gem, and I am far more excited for it because it hasn’t received umpteen sequels.

It would be cool if we also got Robot Alchemic Drive (R.A.D. really rare game) and Japan PS2 classics got Ultraman Battle Evolution series, Tetsujin 28-Go, and Giant Robo

  • Will we Europeans ever get the cool PS2 games?

Why is it only Americans getting the cools ones like GTA and Shin Megami Tensei.

We’re stuck with Cricket, Darts and other lame British sports.

    • Isn’t Europe getting the Devil Digital games?
Either way, yeah. Thankfully, downloads aren’t locked on IPs on PS3.

    • Herok♞

I believe Europe has more SMT games at the moment if my memory is correct we only have P3:FES.

    •  I know the feeling, but as others have pointed out, Ghostlight is actually publishing the two Digital Devil Saga games on our PSN, which is really cool :D

What the hell, you got Malicious first for like 6 months (PSN exclusive game), Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, Gungrave Overdose, Virtua Fighter 4 EVO, SHINOBI, SSX On Tour, plus we should be also getting Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore

  • HassanJamal

good choices sony, keep bringing on the GOOD content and not the kiddy casual crap.

  • darkfox1

Wish we would get Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 like Europe. If not I REALLY hope it comes out on EU PSN soon. But just wish it would come to NA PSN so I don’t have to make a EU account :D

Warriors? They should put that and Marc Ecko’s Gettin Up: Contents Under Pressure up on PS2 Classics.

And of course Sega needs to get on Shenmue HD Collection already…

  • Ricardo C

Fatal Frame 1, 2, and 3 for PS2 Classics please.

  • Solomon_Kano

War of the Monsters will be mine.

  • ddh819
