Atlus Goes All Out With Even More Persona 4 Arena Screenshots

By Spencer . July 29, 2012 . 2:59am

Batter up! Atlus Japan smacked us with another Persona 4 Arena screenshot attack. We’ve got Aigis using a chain gun, Kanji attacking with a folding chair, and a few stills from story mode.

Persona 4 Arena is out now in Japan and slated for release on August 7 in North America.

Zen is probably feverishly working on it as we speak.

They won’t let you guys down, I can feel it.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I am bleeding with excitement here lol.^_^

  • I love Yosuke’s story mode. It’s bro-loltastic especially in the pre-fight dialogues versus Chie and Yuu.

  • TheGameTagerZ

I got the game and it’s a lot of fun! Atlus told me not to post anymore of the story until release though.

    • AnimeRemix

Think I saw some of your videos on Youtube. =D?

      • TheGameTagerZ

        Yeah they were mine haha

  • Locklear93

Is it bad that I’m happier to see story mode screenshots than fighting screenshots? <_<

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

I’m worried that P4: The Arena wont alast in the fighting scene because most people aren’t getting it for the fighting side of the game, but the story and characters. Then again, it might introduce new people to fighting games and make the scene grow even further.

      • Locklear93

From what I’m told by people much more serious about their fighters than I am, little outside of Capcom lasts in the fighting scene anyway.  I’m told even Blazblue is much diminished in popularity, which makes me sad.  In the end, though, I play fighters almost strictly solo, so for me personally, the story mode is the best source of replay value.

        • FitzpatrickPhillips

Nah, a lot of fighting games last outside the Capcom scene. BB diminished due to a patch that heavily changed how characters fought, which caused many people to drop it, myself included. That said, I wasn’t saying there was anything wrong with playing story mode. I’m a serious fighting game fan and even I can’t wait to enjoy sum-o-dat Persona storymode goodness.

          • What? Pretty much everybody was waiting for the CS2 patch. Practically a month or two into release of CS1, Mori said they’ll release a patch to balance the game, which was really CS2. People didn’t like fighting Bang and Litchi; with Bang being able to do 4k with no meter anywhere, and Litchi having really annoying setups with almost unblockable blockstrings. The patch hit in May 2011.

I’m pretty sure the loss of popularity for BB came from the expensive DLC characters, tons of silly DLC, and them releasing another version that let you play as the DLC characters with a story attached for free.

          • Crevox

Loss of popularity stems from the lack of a proper sequel. CS was great, didn’t take too long to come out after CT either… but there’s been no proper sequel. Probably because they were working on this.

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

Everyone was waiting for the patch and was horrendously disappointed from what I’ve seen. The only real DLC that mattered were the 3 character DLCs and I never really heard much complaints about them post-release. You’re right about Litchi with her 3 hour attacks.

BB was kind of dead even before CSEX came out. If anything, CSEX sparked more interest because it had the stories for both games in one.

          • But CS2 had been out in the arcades for ages before it hit consoles. It had at least a 5 month head start to show all the changes. Shouldn’t people have been disappointed from then? I think more people quit because they got tired of waiting for the patch, if anything.

Then people were complaining about Makoto and her insanely good everything. (lolBBbalancing) Now with CSEX, the previous DLC became unlockables, so the people who actually bought the characters as DLC felt ripped off. A lot of BB players I knew started playing other games from that point. On top of that, it didn’t make it to Evo, it didn’t get into SBO, and there’s P4A with it’s crazy popularity in Japan and GGAC+R coming to PSN/XBL. BB is almost irrelevant right now.

          • Nemesis_Dawn

The patch actually got me back into the game, as a Rachel player, since she was completely useless in CS1 and I had adopted Jin as an alternative. It was Extend that killed it for me. The business with charging almost twice what anyone else charged for DLC characters and then forcing you to buy Extend if you wanted to see their story modes. It was a rip-off, plain and simple, and it forced me to no longer support the series.

          • cj_iwakura

I still find BB matches all the time online. It’s still popular enough, and I think it still gets play in JP too, even if P4A took away from it.

        • In America maybe, in Latin America it’s all about KoF and in Japan even P4U is more played in arcades than Street Fighter.  A lot of people just play SF cause that’s where the money is at.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

BlazBlue did it to itself. I was a huge fan until the constant retail revisions made me swear off the series and I am not the only one I know who feels this way.

      • Crevox

Actually, it’s the other way around. Most of the BlazBlue/Guilty Gear/even capcom fighting scene is moving to this game. They know nothing about Persona, but they’re playing it because it looks like a good fighter (and it’s by Arc System Works).

  • xavier axol

has anyone noticed the on growing list of fighting games lately? i’ll still take that over fps anytime, but still hope for a new trend of rpgs from either side (western or japanese). i want to see a new star ocean ( that improves on till the end of time), a new legend of dragoon, darkcloud3, dragon quest (on counsels), fall out, the witcher, dragon age, and demon’s souls to star popping up anytime now!.

    • i hear you…i got about ten fighters switching in and out my ps3 lol..but P4A will make eleven!

    • Locklear93

Fighters are still in a resurgence after being half dead for quite a while.  Super Street Fighter 4 proved there’s still life in the genre, and since then, they’ve picked up a lot.  I’d still say RPGs tend to come out in significantly larger quantities, though, and since you’re game for both JRPGs and WRPGs, there’s never really been a dearth of them.

    • Hinataharem

I don’t have the source, but I remember reading that The Last Hope was the final Star Ocean game :(

      • xavier axol

that’s weird ’cause if i remember correctly tri ace was working on a new engine, they even show a trailer of what the engine was capable (it had pretty much everyrhing star ocean related). so i doubt that they will leave their biggest franchise, if anything they will try a new formula ( but it will still be name star ocean).

        • Hinataharem

Well I’m gonna take your word for it. I would really love another Star Ocean. It’s one of my favorite RPG series.

          • xavier axol

wow take it with a grain of salt, i’m in the dark just as you. but with a little of common sense and the trailer that had star ocean related stuff, it’s a no brainer. and even if it will, we may not know when. it’s all wishful thinking, just have faith that tri ace will bring us a new star ocean.

  • Foxmaniac

Elizabeth’s story was quite fun to play. As of now, 99% of the story completed. Must be missing a story branch somewhere… I keep on getting my ass handed to me during online matches though…gonna be tough for me to gather all those trophies…

  • Tee Niitris

I’m now convinced to give this a shot… even though I know nothing about the Persona series.

  • l777l

That’s a nice list of screenshots. It would’ve been even better if the fighting scenes had been in higher resolution.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

Looks like Teddie is playing…. Bearsball! uhhhh…

  • that teddie baseball character reminds me of ninja baseball batman XD an old classic arcade beat em up.

    • OatMatadoQuatro

The name of that game was already epic! XD

  • Triplicity

    Σ (゚д゚lll)

    • Hinataharem

    •  I’ve seen and played through her Story Mode.

It’s Mystery Food X: Bento Type.

  • Niermyico

I’ve had enough of screenshots. I want the game! :O

  • Dantis

    Cheers Zen. Still hate you.

    •  At least you’re not blaming Atlus USA, a lot of people do…

  • Elemiel

Is that Fabulous!Kanji in the screenshots?! :O

  • Mnstrzero00

About how long is the story mode?

    • Crevox

      30-40 hours according to Atlus

  • canarinta

The only reason I’m not playing this right now is the Region lock. Che! I shouldn’t have bought an imported PS3. Curse my preference for X = Yes.
