Way Of The Samurai 4 Slices Onto PS3 In August

By Spencer . August 2, 2012 . 2:30pm

Xseed is about to release an English localized version of Way of the Samurai 4, which takes place when foreigners land in Japan. Will you side with these strangers or fight to kick them out of your country? Or maybe you’ll spend your time working as… a gardener?

Like the other Way of the Samurai games, Acquire added a hint of wackiness to spice up Way of the Samurai 4. If you missed it, we covered many of the crazy things you can do in the game here. One neat feature is a Demon’s Souls like network system where your samurai will wander into other player’s games. If you defeat an invading samurai you can claim their sword.

Way of the Samurai 4 comes out on August 21 in North America and will cost $39.99.

    40 bucks for a digital game? …I don’t think so…

    • doubleO7

How much were you expecting? This is a full retail game worth of content (considering the fact that is was, y’know, a retail game) and not just a small download-only title. How much are the case and manual really worth? $20 off is a significant discount. 50 bucks for Dynasty Warriors 7 was a bit much, but $40 is good enough for me.

      • Ooh Bee

You mean Warriors Orochi 3, right?

And the One Piece game is also going to be $50. $40 is a good price for this game.

Well Wizardry, which was a full retail game we only got digitally in the states by Xseed cost 20 bucks, so that would have been a great price imo.

I’d rather just spend the extra 20 and get the physical PAL copy.

        • Wizardry also has significantly less content. Which isn’t to say Wizardry is a slouch in any way… just that Samurai 4 has a *tonnnnn* of content.

I should know. I translated most of it. AnD NOw I’M a LiTTlE unnnnnHiNGeD… ;)

          • cj_iwakura

And now you have ample time to translate the sequel!

yeah as much as i like the game, i don’t think i’ll buy it. i have to save for other games like assassin’s creed 3 and all those other games caming this fall. it would be nice if it’s 20 bucks, but seeing how big the game is (i doubt it).

  • I’ll wait for the EU boxed version.

  • Silver Citizen

Screenshot 4 is hilarious. What the hell is he doing!? XD

  • badmoogle

I still need to buy (and play) the previous games…

  • Ronald Bixler

They have come to challenge you to American baseball! What I want to know is, how many gigs this is going to take up on my system? I loathe download-only titles, my 250 gig PS3 can only take so much!

    • JazzyMan123

Last I heard it was around 3-5 GB.

  • Solomon_Kano

Never played the previous games, but this does look interesting. Might give it a go.

    • MrRobbyM

I just saw some gamespot coverage of it and it looks pretty fun. It’s a shame that it’s a digital-only release. It looks like a pretty beefy game.

  • Valkenhayn

Finally a release date! I would have expected 49.99 at least like orochi.

  • Syltique

I don’t think I can bring myself to pay $40 for a digital only release.  I’m really torn on this one.

    • landlock

You could always import the Euro version, Nippon Ichi is giving it a retail release.

      • cj_iwakura

It’s surreal. Two US companies releasing in different regions.

        • landlock

I remember Nippon Ichi opening a European office a couple of years back but for some reason they still seem to call themselves Nippon Ichi America on all the games they release in Europe. Weird…

  • Souji Tendou

I have been waiting for the release date news like, forever. Thanks Siliconera. :D

39.99 for a piece of air. for somthing you cant touch you cant see. WOW!

    • But you can play it. And it’s a lot of fun! And if it breaks, you can replace it FOR FREE. Anytime you want.

      • until it return into air again after Sony shutdown the PSN or abandoned the current gen supporting.

        • …which probably won’t happen until we’re old and gray, if it does at all. And even in the unlikely event it does happen, you could still play it as long as your PS3 is still in working order. And if it isn’t… well, then how would you play it anyway? ;)

      • TheCynicalReaper

I was put off by the DL Version idea, honestly, but at the price you lot put on it it’s just amazing. Nicely done! Wish you’d update your website with this news, though. I kept going back to check for info and never saw any new news.

        Instant day 1 purchase

    • TheCynicalReaper

you can pay 75 bucks for the import boxed NISA version, or 40 bucks for the XSEED version.

No offense, but the economy says XSEED. As do I.

  • Nitraion

I got mail from NISA they said released  EU box version on october

  • Göran Isacson

Have seen the previous entries for sale on cheap in various used games-racks… they any good, or is this one of those series where you skip the first parts that are full with features that didn’t work out, and go right for themore polished sequels instead?
