Bakemonogatari Portable’s Talking Battle System In Action

By Spencer . August 6, 2012 . 2:04am

Namco Bandai’s video game take on Bakemonogatari has a different kind of battle system. Instead of picking "fight" or "magic" you choose what your character says. Bakemonogatari Portable is kind of like rock-paper-scissors where no choice completely trumps the other options.

Dialogue snippets unlocked by playing Bakemonogatari Portable can be used to create custom event scenes. Bakemonogatari Portable comes out for PSP on August 23.

I’ve gotta say, this looks like a remarkably smart way to handle something as dialogue oriented as Bakemonogatari. That limited edition looks really nice as well… But ¥9,980 would be expensive even without the terrible, terrible, awful exchange rate.

  • I would like to call this battle system as: “Snark combat”

Would like to see Vampire Blondie vs Tsukihi/Karen (Funny tht the most girly one is > Karen…. Whtever it means)

  • It’s fitting that a show of talking heads should have its game’s battle system revolving around verbal responses. This is a game for Deadpan Snarkers.

  • Talking our way out of a deadly situation. What are we suppose to be in this game, Politicians?

    • nah mate, that would involve smack talk , hush hush backroom deals, snide remarks and bribery
