Nintendo is jumping into the digital distribution deep end by offering retail games as Nintendo eShop downloads. New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be one of first games available in stores and as a download.

We were curious to see how long it would take to download New Super Mario Bros. 2 from the eShop. So we timed the file transfer with a stopwatch and it took 46 minutes and 23 seconds to get New Super Mario Bros. 2. This test was done with a US region 3DS and a US code for the game, which comes out in North America on August 19.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 clocks in at 2,725 blocks or 340 MB. That’s roughly twice the size of Mighty Switch Force (currently the second biggest game on my US 3DS) which is 1,617 blocks.
