Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Updated With Online Multiplayer And DLC Character

By Spencer . August 7, 2012 . 3:43pm

Sure, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is about two years old, but Ubisoft hasn’t forgotten about it. A new downloadable content pack is slated for release on August 19.

Major Nelson’s mentions an online multiplayer pack plus Wallace Wells (Scott’s roommate) will cost 400 Microsoft Points or $5. We’re guessing the PlayStation 3 version will get DLC around the same time.

A rockin’ thank you to Justin for the heads up. Thanks!

About time Wallace is playable, he’s seriously one of the best characters in the series >w<; Also hooray for online play, really wasn't expecting that this late in the game's life; not too shabby for $5 o3o;; Although at the same time can't see myself grabbing it right away.

    • I’m happy as well, but really disappointed in the price.

If anything, it should have been $1.99/160 MSP like the Knieves Chau and additional gameplay mode DLC. With that you got an additional character and two new gameplay modes. Here, you get one new character, granted an awesome one, and the ability to go online.

It’s nice Ubisoft didn’t forget, but I could never bring myself to get it. I’d rather put that $5 for the Leviathan ME3 DLC than towards a feature that should have been added via a free patch. :P

Maaaaaybe if it had been $1.99.

  • British_Otaku

It’s late but I’m happy with this.
The movie and comics were great but I started by playing the demo of this game.
Sadly, I’m too much of a physical distribution junkie to go for it even now. I want to own the game on a disc, sniff the booklet, place it on my shelf and maybe even reverse the boxart but it probably won’t ever happen like a number of good download only games for the last generation on the PS3, 360 and Wii.

Hope people enjoy this and Ubisoft get it on the PS3 at the same time as the Xbox 360. Demo reminded me of River City Ransom and great fun…

*Preorders Journey’s Limited Edition which is on a PS3 disc, looking forward to flower (one of the games included)*

  • XiaomuArisu

    Already beat it……..
    will  beat it again!
    who is with me?

  • Carlos Daniel Flores Loreto

Sweet, just the other day I was completing the trophies for this. Still missing a couple, so this addition is welcome.

  • SirRichard

Online multiplayer would be very much welcomed, and Wallace was one of my favourite characters from the comics (and easily the best in the movie), so it’ll be great to play through with him (and grind him to Lv16, and get his secret moves, and whatever trophies he comes with…).

I wonder what made them decide to come back to it, though. Not complaining, of course, but they let it lie for two years before doing this. Nothing better to do?

    • Solomon_Kano

The color volumes of the comics are releasing soon, so they probably wanted something to coincide with that.

      • SirRichard

I didn’t even know those were a thing, but that might be why they’re coming back to it, probably to get another bit of money out of it. Going to have to see about getting those colour volumes, too.

        • Solomon_Kano

I’ve procrastinated like hell on getting my own copies of the books, so I know I’ll definitely be looking into the color volumes when they release. Per usual, Amazon already has knocked a bit of the price so it’s looking twice as good.

  • I never really finished the game anyway, I’m still stuck in the 3rd stage and can’t bash the walls quick enough to escape from the 3rd evil ex’s aura of yellow fire not to mention the stage itself being difficult.

  • ABOUT FREAKIN TIME…god the online thing should have been around since with Knives and cool Wallace 8D everyone likes wallace~.  Now i can finally get my friend to play the game :3

  • ThatBlackGuy

Too late lost most of my friends due to an accidental beer keg to the back of the head a few too many time.

  • RedShadoww

YES! I’m totally getting this. I loved the game and always wished it had online multiplayer. I’m so excited ^o^

  • TaintedSeraph

Wish this game supported remote play. Would’ve loved to play it on my Vita.

  • AuraGuyChris

You know, I find it kind of insulting that this game has a lot of subtle Nintendo references yet it isn’t on a Nintendo console, or even WiiWare.

    • Solomon_Kano

Insulting? How? The work the game was based on was full of Nintendo references as was the movie it inspired, so naturally the game would be as well. That doesn’t make it a requirement that it be on a Nintendo system.

      • AuraGuyChris

Please! Scott’s band is even named Sex Bob-ombs. How do you put this into a Sony and Microsoft system? There are a lot of Nintendo references than there are for the other two consoles.

And before somebody says anything, I know the size of the game was a hindrance that didn’t make it to the list, but dedicated developers can always come up with solutions.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

The solution being to put it on systems with no such limitations.

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Isn’t there a rule on this site against demanding a game be on a certain system?

      • AuraGuyChris

Yes there is, but I didn’t literally demand for the game to be on it on my comment, hmm? So please, be a peach and don’t point fingers to other people.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

Says the guy whining about how it isn’t on WiiWare…says the guy who is so determined that it should come to his particular console of choice that he says they should gimp the game to widdle it down into Nintendo’s 40m size limit, when even Super MeatBoy couldn’t have been cut that way. The game is almost 5 times the limit Nintendo allows. Should they have cut out the music like Team Meat tried to do? Should they have compromised the graphics?

No, they did the right thing and kept it on the HD systems, where they wouldn’t be as limited. If you can’t play it or you feel insulted, then that’s too bad.

  • Aoshi00

First MGS4 trophy patch, now Scott Pilgrim Online multiplayer, miracles do happen :) I still haven’t beat the game w/ Knives yet.. recently I’ve bought the Jpn Scott Pilgrim blu-ray and it was a pretty interesting dub :)

P.S. MGS4 patch just done d/l’ing, ~500Mb, and full game install 9Gb.. whew, that’s a lot of space, but less than I expected.. and Snake was like “Kept you waiting huh”.. yeah 4 yrs.. and now Scott Pilgrim online after 2 yrs, crazy *.*..

  • Philip Irwin

…And now I have to fulfill a promise I made to Ubisoft.  I said that if they kicked online onto the game I would download the 360 version of the game…

I plan to hold to that promise.

  • Sweet! But… I am rather curious what the motivation behind this update is all of a sudden? I guess it’s better late than never.

Here’s hoping that Wallace is his own character and not a re-skin of one of the other characters (looking at you Knives!).

    • Solomon_Kano

The color volumes are releasing soon, so that’s likely why.

  • Guest

Argh… not exactly sure how this got posted twice…

  • Kitestwinblades

Excellent News XD I’ve actually been playing that a LOT lately. Trying to max out everyone atm. Maybe I should hold back until online gets here because the game is a piece of cake once your stats all hit 99 and the grind isn’t so bad with multiple people.

  • I still haven’t read the graphic novels or seen the film, but I’ll try this out when the pack drops.
I also love how the girl with the twin-tails totally rocks out! Seeing the image above reminded me of that.

    • Aoshi00

If you could, definitely grab the 6 graphic novels first (the Precious Little Boxset including the poster, which I framed :), then watch Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz)’s awesome movie adaptation, and get the beat ’em up, in that order.  You would enjoy the game much more if you read the comics first.  Bryan Lee O’Malley is a genius.. can’t wait till his next work..

The game was a total blast, except it was missing the most important online multiplayer before (just wasn’t as fun to play on your own multiple times, but w/ friends it was great).  And now it is perfect :)

I love Scott Pilgrim so much I might double dip on the upcoming hard cover color volumes :)

      • Testsubject909

There’s also a long list of games to play prior to Scott Pilgrim The Video Game to know all the little bits and pieces and homages to the many other games.

Such as knowing that the hud took inspiration from Earthbound, the obvious connections to River City Ransom, etc etc.

        • Aoshi00

Yeah, those who have played games since the 8-bit days would feel more nostalgia and appreciate it more. I was suggesting if someone were new to the game, they should definitely check out the graphic novels first, since the game is based on the books and more.

    • Testsubject909

You aughta do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the movie and the novels. If you like video games, you’re guaranteed a good time.

    • yeah, even if you arent a huge comic fan, it will keep you entertained. there are so many video game references and nudges that its ridiculous. the good kind of ridiculous.

  • Natat

OH MAI GAAAD, I had just returned to this game and was suffering at the fact that it had no online TODAY. And I return from shopping groceries and BAM… wait, am I dreaming?

  • Testsubject909

    Wallace Wells?

    *throws wallet at screen*

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Haha wowww, this came MUCH too late. For me anyway. Played the living crud out of this game back then.

  • doubletaco

    Playable Wallace?

    Sold and sold.

  • Shadowman

And it took them just about this long just to make this DLC. Well I guess I still play it but they could add new boards.

  • Matthew Baucom

They prob adding this due to the full color editions of SP start to come out in Aug

    • Natat

That’s precisely what I was thinking earlier today, that it was a nice opportunity for some new addition to the game, online mode being the most obvious one. Wallace was something unexpected though.

  • Anime10121

Can not wait!  This game was awesome on SO many levels!  Gameplay, music, bosses, everything about it was just about perfect :P

    • Solomon_Kano

Even if the rest had sucked, I’d still play this game for the music lol. It’s that good.

      • Anime10121

Agreed, I only wish the Scott Pilgrim books were a bit longer, so that we could have gotten a sequel!  This game DESERVES a follow up, though sadly considering this is a pretty conclusive game, it’ll probably never receive one :(

      • Anime10121

Yep, I just wish the books were longer so we could get a sequel.  This game DESERVES a sequel and its sad that we’ll probably never get one due to the story being complete. :(

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, it’s a pity since the game was so great. I don’t know what O’Malley is working on now, but it’d be cool to see more of his work adapted as games in the future if we can’t get more Scott Pilgrim.

  • PK212

Can’t get enough Scott Pilgrim, especially with the limited edition color version of Vol 1 coming out this week :)

  • Solomon_Kano

What? Sweeeeeet. Online was good enough, but adding Wallace? Too great.

  • Zonic505

Better late than never, I guess, but kind of sucks I gotta spend $5 to go online. Granted, you get another character (& hopefully trophies/achievements), but they should’ve patched the online and made Wallace $2 like with Knives. & even then, she came with 2 additional modes.

  • Been wanting to play this.  Maybe this will finally make me give it a go.

    • z_merquise

You should get it especially if you’re a fan of 2D beat-em-ups. It’s more enjoyable when played with a friend. But with added online multiplayer just made it better.

      • Although I am not a huge fan of 2D beat-em-ups, this game looks beautiful and I do love Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
Yah, once I get through some more of my backlog of stuff, I think I will pay this game a visit.

  • Josh Strange

I’ll pass…Should have been in the game from the get go.

  • Nice. Definitely going to try to finish it this time.

  • Nosajk

LoL probably now i want to finish it up on my account since i havent done it…. i just wanted Ubisoft would had done this a lot earlier.. but oh well at least they did it :D

  • Yay, Wallace!  I was so mad he wasn’t a playable character from the get-go.

    • Göran Isacson

But Wallace is a lover, not a fighter… unless… that’s what his movelist is going to consist of! Pick-up lines that makes all the dudes swoon!

      He’s gonna have a hard time fighting lady-enemies though…

  • This game should have cross play to the Vita as well. The Vita should MORE than handle this game, makes ad-hoc/wi-fi fun and would be great to even play alone on the train. Would make attempting the leader boards and stuff way funner.

  • Sperium3000

Wait, if Wallace becomes playable, what happens if you go with him into Wallace’s secret shop in stage 1?
