BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Is Coming To PS3. Right Now, Only PS3.

By Spencer . August 8, 2012 . 1:32am

imageFamitsu confirmed what everyone expected BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma will be released for consoles. However, the magazine only has BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma listed for PlayStation 3. So far, all of the other BlazBlue titles have been multiplatform.

A brief interview with series producer Toshimichi Mori says Arc System Works plans on enhancing network functionality and adding more gameplay modes. BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma will move the story forward too. Mori told Siliconera, Continuum Shift Extend brought us a bit more than halfway through the BlazBlue saga.

  • New Blazblue? Nice! But I’m gonna wait for Vita’s port since I don’t have ps3 lol

    • That aside, Vita port might get new feature as well as DLC characters including their story. Extend – if you know what I mean.

      • Guest

Dammit. Read it as: Coming to PS3, RIGHT NOW. Only on PS3.

    • Luna Kazemaru

       Lets not go there.

    • Read our posting guidelines please:

  • i just bought extend for Vita, though i could have bought the ps3 for the same price, the Vita needs some Love.

  • malek86

It’s likely that they are only skipping on the japanese release. Wouldn’t be the first time.

  • XypherCode

I’m wondering if the storyline since Calamity Trigger up to Extend can still be played in this game. It’s nice if you can play the story again from the very start. I haven’t even finished some of the character’s story mode and there’s a new game already. :P

  • Luna Kazemaru

Spencer You maybe should have waited before posting this. As of right now most are just calling this a typo or a really bad error famitsu made

    • malek86

SE is still a news site. If Famitsu says something, no reason not to report it (it’s not a rumor, because it comes directly from ASW). If it’s a typo or a mistake, we have no way of knowing yet.

If it turns out to be an error, I guess they’ll update the article or make a new one :P

But, I think it’s possible that they are only publishing the 360 version in western territories this time. It’s happened before.

  • MrKappa

Bad choice of words in the title to say right now. The game has just kicked off loketest, it hits arcades in December and that “right now” release date is actually TBA.
If anything it will be out next year some time after March… and that is not right now to me.
I don’t know why ASW decided to report this to Famitsu as if it was newsworthy. It’s not as if there wouldn’t be a console version.

  • Go2hell66

going by how BBCS releases went my guess is we’ll see the english release sometime in july next year, don’t think well see any console ports for quite sometime, arcade version only coming out around the end of the year

also please remember this is arcsys were talking about. this game is gonna get ported to every console released in the last 10 years. wouldn’t be suprised if this ends up on ouya and N64. japan might not get a 360 version, but US and EU sure as hell will

  • Josh Strange

Why? Persona4A just came out, and you got Tekken and DoA on the way…

  • Neophoton

While I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a typo, I could also see them choosing to withhold the 360 release from Japan and have it set aside for the localized release.

  • Nemesis_Dawn

After the sales of Persona 4 Arena in Japan, I am thinking they may start only making 360 releases in the West. I mean, 130k for PS3 versus 9k on 360 would make me reconsider multiplatform releases over there too. Or it could even be a sign that the Next Box is closer to coming out than the PS4 and it’ll end up on that system instead of the 360 whenever they make the next version of this.

    • Chris Downes

Not likely. Why the hell would they do that instead? Seriously, it sold more PS3 copies in the West as well, so why? Besides it would be more work to port it, AND translate it so just save them the trouble of just translating the ps3 copy -_-

      • Nemesis_Dawn

There are already a few games that only saw PS3 release in Japan, but multiplatform in America. Of coure, then there are some, like Clan of Champions that were planned like that, but ended up PS3-exclusive in the end. But it is not uncommon for a company to do that. Either way, I own both systems and only buy fighting games on PS3 anyway, so doesn’t really effect me either way.

      • malek86

According to that logic, Activision shouldn’t release COD on the PS3 because the 360 version sells more anyway.

If Aksys/Atlus/whoever believes that a multiplatform version will recover the porting costs and then some, they’ll do it. It doesn’t need to outsell the other version, just sell enough to make a profit.

  • Zeidge

Dammit. Read it as: Coming to PS3, RIGHT NOW. Only on PS3.

  • LynxAmali

Most likely a typo. I can’t see them canning the rest of it and sticking to one platform when it’s been multi-plat since the beginning.

The possibility is is still there though.

It’d be just be a really low blow.

    • artemisthemp

Agarest War series was multi-platform until 2 :P

      • andref

The problem with that reference is that the first 2 games were ports to the xbox and if you are referring to the US, it allowed for a translation to occur but there is not xbox version of 2 in japan

  • ivanchu77

Probably a typo, but I won´t be surprised if they finally decide to make this game PS3 only. Just look at the sales of persona 4 arena for the XBOX and compare them with the PS3 version.

    • LynxAmali

Japan has never had great Xbox sales.
      Ever, I believe.

      • Nemesis_Dawn

It’s never usually this much of a difference, though. I mean it’s usually like 80/20. This is like 95/5.

        • malek86

P4A probably sold mostly to Persona fans though, which would explain the difference (I imagine most Persona/SMT fans have a PS3 rather than a 360).

On a side note, since the game will probably come at least in Spring 2013, I wonder if there’s gonna be a Wii U version as well.

  • AceWildCard

so I’m assuming this isn’t coming to Neo geo pocket?

    • cj_iwakura

They’ve devoted all their resources to the GameGear port.

    • Go2hell66

       N64 port comes 1st

    • I want my N-gage version!

  • Darkrise

Not a problem for me, if they can add in more content because of the blu-ray capacity then that’s fine.

    • Code

I don’t really think any of them even came close to maxing out the HD-DVD on the 360 .___.’ This type of comment always weirds me out because really most games don’t even come close to using full capacity of either storage medium. Chances are they could store all 3 prior games and BBCP on one blu-ray if they really wanted to, but it’s never about “filling a disc” in the same way you don’t have to have something printed in every square cm on a piece of paper.

      • malek86

The 360 uses DVDs, not HD-DVDs. Anyway, the install size of Continuum Shift (the biggest BB game) was 6GB, so they could have had another 2GB or so.

        • xAKUM3TSUx

It’s a little more different now. Microsoft uses there own modified version of DVD (I know becuz I’m a system and game tester). I tested there new disk and I t seems they were able to increase the capacity of the standard by 4GBs. The only problem is that PS3 has always had a little more space but 360 has only had this for the past two years…I forget when the first BB was released.

          • Rick R

They increased the size of the disc however it’s still very small compared to a BD. The original 360 discs could hold 6.8GB, the new ones hold 7.95GB and this is on a dual layer, so the gain while  still a decent chunk is smaller than you thought. The extra unusable space on the 360 DVD’s  are dedicated to a DVD-Video partition that contains anti-piracy sectors. A BD by comparison holds 25GB on a single layer, a little more than 3x time space of a 360 disc. BD’s can have two layers equaling 50GB and Sony back in 2010 came up with an enhanced signal processing that would allow each layer to be increased to 33.4GBs. Was supposedly for use with 3D BD’s but IDK if it ever actually went in to use.

          • xAKUM3TSUx

Oh ok! now I get it. Good explanation by the way :)

    • malek86

In theory, yes, but frankly I don’t think fighters have much of an issue with space, if even something so story-intensive like P4A was put on a single DVD while still keeping the dual audio.

      • Darkrise

Blazblue is also story-intensive you know and last I heard from an interview, they had a few problems with space to match exact content between dvd and blu-ray and I can tell this will by far have an even larger story thanks to the new cast of characters, re-drawn sprites that take a huge amount of space and new maps. This is also(probably) being last to conclude this story of BB so they’d have to make it good.

  • I think i remember at some point before BBCT was coming out or just annouced, it was originally schedule to be another PS3 exclusive but, ASW decided that they want expand there audience of fans and instead made it a multiplatform. but idk it was a long time ago when i saw it on wikipedia one day when i doing a random search.

  • I can wait! “)

  • Code

    Not too surprised, I imagine it’ll still get multiplatform release in other regions, but I could easily see it getting PS3 only release in Japan at this point. 30% isn’t bad either, if arcades get winter release we might actually see Spring release, rather then mid-Summer owo;

  • scratchbach

I…really hope it comes to 360. While I can still get it on PS3, my stick is on Xbox and I’d hate to not be able to use it.

    • xXDGFXx

Sticks are so expensive. What’s the cheapest price of good quality you’ve ever found?

      • Rick R

Madcatz TE stick for $139.99. Hori has some good  sticks also but they’re just as highly priced. They have that V3 model for $65 but it doesn’t use Sanwa parts, so IDK if it’s really any good.

      • scratchbach

Honestly, I don’t  have too much experience with sticks, but I managed to grab a Madcatz TE for around $120 from Amazon when MvC3 came out. Sorry for the late reply, and sorry I couldn’t be much help!

  • Benny Tormoes

    Oh no they didn’t…

  • BadenBadenPrinny

Probably a decision that affects the japanese region like many here have stated

  • omeganeko

    Oh no bro.

  • raymk

Well I still think it’ll have a 360 port for the west like some games have done.  In japan there’s absolutely zero reason to lose money on the 360 port and even if it is niche in the west it will still sell better than in japan on 360.

  • “Continuum Shift Extend brought us a bit more than halfway through the BlazBlue saga.”

Going by this I think we can expect at least one other game after this one.(IMO theres to much that still needs to be done to completely wrap up this story with just one game without feeling rushed, not to mention the new characters storys which will expand the story even more)

    • Christopher Nunes

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been thinking too when I read this statement. I remember a whole back they planned for BlazBlue to be only 3 games long (numbered series, enchanted versions not counted) but if they want to wrap up the story without any loose ends they have to go with a 4th one to end the series.

Still… I need to complete the story modes for BlazBlue Extended, I barely got all 100% in the first one AND I got the True Ending for that however I only completed Ragna’s story mode in BlazBlue 2 so far… so yeah. I got a lot of catching up to do!

    • Go2hell66

i’m pretty sure this will be the last actual fighting game(excluding updates and rebalancing ofcourse :p)

if they don’t finish the story in this game i think the  rest will be told through spinoffs like xblaze and such

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    O.o Storm is coming here.^_^

  • Brandon Dutko

Did it ever occur to people saying P4A sold so much better on PS3 that the reason may have been because Persona has been a Sony-exclusive series?

360 owners most likely have never played Persona 4, or the series at all, and simply did not care to get the game since it was established characters in a story they don’t even know or just the fact that it was irrelevant to them since it was a spinoff of a series they don’t play.

Meanwhile, PS3 owners have more than likely played the series, and especially P4. And in Japan, it’d be a huge deal.

I am not surprised it did bad on 360 at all, and considering the fact the game JUST came out 2 weeks ago in Japan and what, a day ago in NA, how are you guys using this as reason for it being on PS3 only anyway? Would ASW really use 13-day sales as an “abandon ship” signal?

    • I always like to explore alternative points:
      PSN -> Free online multi-player
      XBLA -> GOLD ONLY -> ~$5 – $8 per month.

      • Jonathan Caminhas

But, we`ve gottta admit that XBL is way better than the PSN.

        • Luna Kazemaru

        • Leon_Tekashi

It’s true that XBL has better security than PSN but there’s one thing PSN beats XBL in: Free online.

          • Sardorim

Agreed, I care not for most Gold features… I just want to play online sometimes without feeling like I’m on the clock. I already feel that enough playing WoW.
