DmC Devil May Cry Trailer Combines Platforming And Combat

By Ishaan . August 9, 2012 . 12:10pm

Capcom and Ninja Theory have released a new trailer for DmC Devil May Cry that shows off some platforming segments from the game mixed with combat, and then part of Dante’s fight against the game’s Succubus boss:

DmC Devil May Cry will be released on January 15th, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America. A PC release will follow at a later date. You can read our hands-on impressions of the game here.

I’m looking forward to the PC release, since hopefully someone will make a mod to put the real Dante back in and remove all the half-baked political commentary.

    • I don’t see how putting the old Dante back in would make a lick of difference. It would just seem ridiculously out of place.

As for “removing all the half-baked political commentary,” that would require serious changes to the entirety of the game itself, which no one would be willing to do, simply to satisfy the needs of a few people that are unable to accept change and move on.

      • Spirit Macardi

Know what else seems ridiculously out of place? Fox News and Anonymous analogues in a Devil May Cry game.

And in follow-up to what you edited in afterwards, the part about modding was a joke. I would have thought that was obvious, since something like that has never been done before.

        • MrRobbyM

If you ask me, it just makes a whole lot of sense, not out of place one bit. Especially the Fox News.

          • puchinri

It’s scary that Fox News being anywhere makes sense. That is terribly wrong. Just look at those two sentences. Terribly. Wrong.

        • Solomon_Kano

In the world of the old DMC perhaps, but this isn’t that world. It looks pretty fitting with Ninja Theory’s direction.

          • Spirit Macardi

… And that’s essenetially the entire problem.

          • Just let it go, for the sake of not repeating the same arguments all over again… I can imagine that it’s not the way everybody likes, but there’s nothing you can do about it now.

          • Solomon_Kano

So… your problem is that an element of the rebooted DmC isn’t in keeping with DMC? At this point there’s really nothing left to do but get over it. A lot of things are going to be out of place if you look at it like that. It’s more frustration than it’s worth, really.

          • Spirit Macardi

If you’re trying to get me to say I’m sorry for not liking this game, then you’re out of luck there. This to me is like trying to pass off Prince of Persia as a Mario game (they’re both platformers after all).

And frankly, it seems Capcom doesn’t have much faith in this either. Just look at Project X Zone: the Dante in there is the old one, not this one. And while you can argue that Capcom isn’t working on that game, they still have a say in which of their characters get licensed and therefore could have pushed for the new one instead as a way to boost interest.

Plus, you can’t make me out as the one in the wrong considering it’s all of you who decided to jump on me for giving my opinion, not the other way around.

          • M’iau M’iaut

We understand what concerns are out there, and have given everyone a chance to express those concerns on multiple occasions. We are asking our readers to ‘read before they post’ and recognize the topic of this particular thread.

          • I’ll appreciate if you don’t strawman what we said: Nobody’s trying to force you to like the game, nor did we say for once that you’re “wrong”. (I said outright that I know not everybody likes this new direction.) We’re just saying it’s a tired complaint at this point – especially given the volatility of DmC threads.

Regarding what you said about the old Dante in Project X Zone… While I don’t disagree on the possibility of what you said, there’s another thing we also shouldn’t forget: DmC hasn’t come into “existence” yet as far as the market is concerned – and consequently, the new Dante hasn’t been formally introduced to the audience yet. While we who browse gaming news sites may be somewhat acquainted, there’s no way to be sure that it’s all there is to him. How would Capcom throw him in among other pre-established characters for a crossover game like Project X Zone when that game is pretty much all about pre-established characters crossing over?

    • Domii

You forgot to put “lol” at the end there buddy. Because you can’t be serious right?

      • Spirit Macardi

The part about being excited for the PC version and hoping for a mod are a joke, but my feelings on the game aren’t.

  • eilegz

gameplay looks better, but still not there…

Dante design looks improved somehow compared to the first trailer, but again still not better than previous games….

The only part that maybe will im looking for could be the history but then the all idea of angel and demon origins and dante serious tone and the lack of humor from previous game dont make it good neither….

    • Anime10121

Oh it has humor, maybe not copious amounts of it like the last few games (we wont know for sure until it releases), but having seen this, (while some of it seems out of character for the original Dante) it seems that new Dante isn’t as “moody” and “brooding” as people originally thought.

  • Anime10121

This game is slowly starting to grow on me.  While I still would have preferred a continuation of the story from DMC3 or 4, dont really care about how Dante “looks” per-say, I just want my original DMC universe back (Lady, Vergil, Nero, Trish, etc), this is starting to look pretty good if I do say so myself.  The only thing that’s really holding me back from fully embracing it is the fact that I have yet to actually like playing any of Ninja Theory’s games so far.  I tried Heavenly Sword (couldnt get past the no jumping/”heaviness of the combat) and Enslaved just didnt work for me.

I’m glad however that Ninja Theory’s known for good stories, but I still would have preferred for them to make a story in the original continuum and not a new one for a reboot (I know that’s Capcom’s fault, not Ninja Theory’s).  Cautiously optimistic, even though regardless, I be buying used, its the only way that I can think of to show that I’d rather support the original saga over a reboot (plus other reasons I’m sure others are aware of by now).

    • French

A great and mature way to put it

    • Domii

I’m with you there. NT games have been borderline average in the past, but this time around Capcom is collaborating with them. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

  • $30632660

I wonder if this will sell better than Ninja Gaiden 3.Big names usually sells bad games so I wonder if this game will be successful.

    • Solomon_Kano

Except we don’t know if this is a bad game or not yet. Or do you already have a copy?

    • Domii

I’m with Kano below. Unless you have a copy already, reserve judgement when it’s release.

  • Gameplay looks fast and fluid. But that’s about the only thing I find interesting about this one, based on the trailers. The music they went with in the past trailers and this one in particular being the aspects I dislike the most.

As always, I’ll reserve judgment for when I get to play this one.

    • Solomon_Kano

It’s the opposite for me. I’m more interested in everything other than the gameplay. It looks alright, but not really anything attention getting. On the other hand, the game’s art direction is pretty great. That and interest in what NT does with the story are pretty much the only reasons I’m paying attention to this.

  • Solomon_Kano

Well, the gameplay looks fast enough now but… something’s still off. Hopefully they’ll release a demo.

  • Razlo

I hope we get a new REAL Devil May Cry game some day.

    • Domii

Oh didn’t you know? We are getting a real Devil May Cry game, January 15, 2013. Book it.

      • Tom_Phoenix

Yes, indeed we are. That spinoff is going to be really interesting. I hope they announce Devil May Cry 5 in the nearby future as well.

    • Fidelis

Capcom is a company that prioritizes profit, so if this game does well then it’s unlikely. And you can just give up if this game’s sales reach higher than the average of the first 4’s.

      • Solomon_Kano

Even if this doesn’t do well, it’s unlikely that they’d bring back the previous series. That wouldn’t be in keeping with Capcom’s style.

      • Laharl

If they wanted it to sell… Why did they hire Ninja Theory?

  • M’iau M’iaut

Guys, this is becoming an every every every time occurrence on any DMC thread. We are no longer going to debate whether or not this is a ‘real’ Devil May Cry game or if you are still angry about Tameem and everyone else at Ninja Theory dumping your sister.

Keep the discussions on the thread topic, please.

    • Domii

    • Fidelis

      It’s inevitable.

Requesting for people to keep silent about their feelings about this game in any single article that even has a subtle reference to DMC is as futile as making an online petition for the disembowelment of Tameem

    • puchinri

Don’t talk about my sister like that, she’s only had one boyfriend. :'(

And can’t I be mad that I was technically dumped myself? Or just bitter. Like a proper, old wench about to be a lonely cat lady.

  • Domii

lol at some of the comments below. Anywho, this is already a must buy for me since I’ve own every DMC game to date. I’m just worry about not being able transform in to a badass demon like in previous games. Hopefully Capcom surprises me.

    • Solomon_Kano

If Dante gets a real DT at some point, I’d be happy as hell. His current Devil Trigger being old Dante is pretty funny though.

      • Domii

See that’s my only complain so far. This whole Dante white hair thing in DT looks pretty ridiculous. Hopefully we do get a real Demon kicking ass when we get our hands on this baby come January.

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, if it stays as old Dante, I’m gonna be disappointed in January. Having him still look human in DT kinda defeats the purpose, so I hope that changes at some point in the game. Guess we’ll see.

          • Domii

  • Valtiel Ikari

you know, I realized something, the city is supposed to try to kill Dante, but its doing a really lame job leaving so many places where he can just platform, it’s like it’s not even trying, wouldn’t it just be easier to trap him under two wall and a roof top and jill-o-sandwich the hell out of him?

Gameplay does look faster, but not at the level of Devil May Cry 3, still looked like a dumbed down lite version of the gameplay.

Still not getting into the music, and Dante having to curse every so ofthen and having a “f*ck you” fight fest with the boss, it makes the statement of wanting to be more mature pointless since it’s has the opposite effect…

Just hope that after this is over, we can get a proper Devil May Cry game, maybe one of Dante’s REAL origin or a continuation of the story of Devil May Cry 4.

    • LuciferD666

5 stars for your comment man.Exactly what I would’ve said.

    • Pang Chee Jie

DmC Dante is just as REAL as DMC Dante. The only difference is that they both exist in different universes. Stop lying to yourself.

      • puchinri

Isn’t this Dante an AU Dante? That kind of differentiates real versus not real. Like Bruce-Batman vs Dick-Batman. Or Bruce from the alt DC verses to mainstream Bruce-Bats. Almost like Sonic to Shadow. Real to Faker. Or, something.

      • Valtiel Ikari

well, considering that this new Dante is from a diferent universe, hes not the original dante, hence, the original dante being real dante, while this new Dante is AU Dante.

And if you read I actually didn’t refer to classic Dante as real, the only place I used the word REAL was when I said whe could have a game about the REAL origin of Dante for the next instalment, referin to the classic universe origin.

    • puchinri

Since DMC Dante is still popping up places, I do hope we see a return to him and the main entries. And maybe some more Vergil. . .

I do prefer my servings of sexy in pairs.

  • Ha, I love all the obscene words throughout the levels. Game looks fine to me, but last time I checked THAT is not a Succubus lol

Morrigan does not approve and is giving you the finger =P

    • Fidelis

..I dont wan5 to burst your bubble, but what you just saw WAS morrigan

      without makeup

  • Does it count as platforming if you can’t fall into death??? From what I’ve seen from the boss gameplay, there’s an invisible wall preventing you from falling during the boss fight…

  • I dug that electro music from the previous demos, this one not so much. Still looks good to me, but please Kat….. don’t get into some crappy romance subplot…..

  • Syn

Watching this, I just realized that Dante(DmC) now has a similar fighting style to Dante(Dantes inferno) with his extendable sword scythe thing and slow big hits. Hopefully the gameplay as some depth, like The levels though, also hoping they are not just eye candy but are more interactive than shown on trailers.
