Digimon Crusader Brings Agumon To iOS

By Spencer . August 20, 2012 . 11:02pm

digim7Namco Bandai is on a Digimon explosion for the series 15th anniversary. They just released the PSP game, Digimon World Re: Digitize, and have Digimon Crusader slated for release on iOS this fall.

Digimon Crusader is a card RPG set on File Island. Digimon armies from all corners of the island have been in a perpetual struggle leaving the island in ruins. Unhappy with the state of the world, Ophanimon summons you – a crusader – to the Digital World. You get a pack of energy cards and are given the task of uniting the island.

When you get into battle, you can select three cards with the same color to attack. Just like the series, Digimon evolve and a side goal is creating the ultimate Digimon.

Digimon Crusader will be released for free this fall. The game will have in-game items available for purchase.

Not a big fan of card games anymore but it gets tedious looking for an interesting game on the app store and i’ve always liked digimon.  I’d get it if it came out in the US.

I don’t care, just need my fix of Digimon lol.

The annoying trend with these free-to-play games is that most of them rely on manipulating the customer into spending exorbitant amounts of cash to sustain “playing”. Yes, as long as you’re not stupid, I guess you can keep playing without a fee, but then they make these intentional paywalls where it’s near impossible to progress without ponying up some real cash. The worst case are these competitive games (I’m expecting a multiplayer component with this game like with most card games) where it becomes pay-to-win, ultimately getting rid of any sense of fairness in competing with others.

I’d rather pay up a fee outright to get a balanced game rather than one where I have to pay upwards of hundreds just to beat one enemy.

EDIT: in case anyone gets riled up or something, I’m not bashing this game specifically (hell, it’s not even out yet), I’m just saying what I, and most gamers who’ve “played” free-to-play games, have observed of the practice. And let me tell you, there are just some downright horrible cases.

You know, I never realised it until now (mostly beacuse I haven’t been in touch with anything Digimon for many, many years), but Angewomon’s design is so crazy that she wouldn’t be out of place in a Shin Megami Tensei game.

This game…looks too good to be confined to the iOS. Revamp the gameplay to be more Etrian Oydessy/ SMT and put it onto both (true) game portable systems.
