Square Enix Makes Agni’s Philosophy The Highlight Of Their Game Conference

By Spencer . August 20, 2012 . 8:25am

imageOn November 23 and 24, Square Enix will hold an open conference in Japan. Agni’s Philosophy, a realtime tech demo for the Luminous Engine, is the main event.

Day one kicks off with a 30 minute presentation explaining Agni’s Philosophy. Then Square Enix will spend an hour introducing the project by showing concept work and later two hours explaining realtime work flow.

The second day continues the realtime workflow workshop and follows up with a two hour session on the art of realtime graphics. Later that day, there is an hour long game development project management seminar, a 30 minute course on how Final Fantasy XIV figures out a server path, and finally a lecture on next generation game artificial intelligence architecture.

Square Enix will take registration applications for the conference starting on September 12. Here’s a look at how Square Enix produced Agni’s Philosophy.

  • I hope Agni’s Philoshopy will turn out to be a game with or without carrying Final Fantasy name.

  • They are giving this demo so much focus. I wonder if they are going to make it into game or not. I do want that game even with all the AK’s and middle east setting with terrorists. Agni is just too cute~

  • meh, I don’t like this character. no more manly woman please!

    • How does she look “manly”?

    • what

    • Bakuryukun

That…makes you sound really shallow, I’m sorry to say.

    • gaiahatergaia

Lol so because she has short hair and a square face then she’s manly? Really now, wether a person is feminine or masculine isn’t based on their outside, it’s on their inside, their personality and how they act, i’m sure you’d freak out if you saw a macho muscular man screaming “kyaaaaaaaah” will crossing his legs like a little girl lol

  •  OK SE, I will buy this game. just don’t spam DLCs at my face

    • This.

    • tha_Chiller

what you don’t like the “Macy’s Men Fashion Wear DLC”? loll

      • eilegz

i dont mind costume and stuff like that but story content and true ending for dlc its despicable and somehow its one of thos bad trends

        • tha_Chiller

I like story content that expands like a mutation rather than it could’ve been in the game

  • Angeru_Lito

They should have firm focus over what that thing is gonna be because it doesn’t look like FF in modern age (only the rebels holding ak47) and it doesn’t look like classic medieval FF either so what’s is gonna be? how about putting all that effort into a new non FF IP?

    • Its not going to be anything. Its just a tech demo. The whole point of the seminar is to explain how they used their new real time engines to create it.

But as a game concept, Agni’s Philosophy is worthless.

      • Angeru_Lito

But then why did they start saying “vote here if you want this to be turned into a game” right arround E3?

        •  Because Square always considers options. They held the same sort of vote for X-2, based on a  very vague concept video. The resulting X-2 went in a very different direction. Thats what I meant. If Angi’s Philosophy gets a noticably high vote, it’ll be considered, but altered. I highly doubt they have a strong concept based on the crappy art direction.

  • Marcelo Henrique Chaves

OMG to that graphic. Looking forward to see the facial expressions.
I just hope they don’t do graphics over gameplay/story.

  • gaiahatergaia

Is this going to be on the PS3?

    • M’iau M’iaut

According to the article, this is still a tech demo.

      • Though even if it were a game. It is probably going to be PS4 or whatever. A next gen console.

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, SE did say this was their next-gen engine, so that’d make sense.

          • Exactly my reasoning Solomon.

    • tha_Chiller

doubt it looks like Next-Gen which is all for the better, Squeenix needs to get there asses in gear & be like they once were in the 90’s when they were separate companies

  • tha_Chiller

can’t be fooled by a CGI/tech demo from Squeenix…but there looks like there can be a good story in there

  • tha_Chiller

I kinda want to hear news on the FFX HD remake for Vita…dem colors

  • Rohan Viajar

Before anybody get’s any ideas. I’d like to point out that it is a TECH DEMO
and TECH DEMO means that they are just showing off the technological abilities of some thing.

so TECH DEMO =/= a real game
    just for clarification purposes.

  • TheDarkEmpress

    > Talking about next-gen stuff
    > Not talking about FFvsXIII which is supposedly THIS gen.

Oh Square, only you, only you….

  • DCBlackbird

Agni looks like she belongs in the gap between 5 and 6 or at least her own chronicle

  • DCBlackbird

Is she a xion expy(tv tropes ruined my vocabulary) or did tetsuya nomura not touch final fantasy for the first time and its just a coincidence

  • I was seriously expecting talks on FFvsXIII, but theres not even a hint on it D:

  • Vinicius Manganaro

Am I the only who thinks that this chicks looks exactly like Female Hawk from DA2?

  • theoriginaled

Eh they’ll announce it as ff15 within the year. Developed for the next gen of consoles.

  •  After their last two main ff games SUCKED I hope they listen to the fans

is it so hard to follow the AWARD WINNING MILLION DOLLAR GIVING FORMULA of FFX!!!!!(my first FF game and the best!!!)

    • I appreciate that you didn’t enjoy the last two FF games – I believe you are talking about XIII and its sequel (which I consider to be spin-off to the main series). Listening to feedback from fans is good. But how does listening to fans help improve the series?

That’s like people saying FF7 is the “best” because it was their first FF game; FFX was my first and I love it, but it is hard to claim it as the “best” since all games just share the name of Final Fantasy.

Also, as mentioned below, this is just a tech demo of a new game engine that doesn’t really go with your comment.

    • Geoff Kelly

For the simple reason that FFXIII has sold more copies than FFX. Just because you didn’t like a particular iteration of the series doesn’t mean you stand for all ‘fans’. There was a lot of hate going around for FFX back in the day from fans of previous FF games, just as there is today for FFXIII; some people will like a particular game. some people won’t.

    • eilegz

now if you talk about ps1 FF and below i could understand you but FF XIII felt like FF X the lineality overall….

  • 果林

final fantasy 13-3, i can feel it

    • Eilanzer

      please don´t feel it Ç_Ç

  • Square Enix wants you to think that during November 23 they’ll be talking about agni’s Philosophy but I know that truth:
The morning will begin by showing the final version of Final Fantasy XIII Versus. Following the presentation people will get the oppurtunity to play the game’s demo and when they leave the hall they’ll have the choice to buy the game when they exit. The rest of us can expect to see the game on store shelves a day later on Novermbert 24. The End. All’s good that ends good!

  • So, when is Square gonna just start making movies? I’m sick of seeing them over-promote graphical fidelity without any creative or unique substance in their games.

    • Syn

You mean to honestly tell me there is no Creative or unique substance in the entire Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, or Valkyrie Profile series????? wow, the millions of sales could have fooled me
