Strut On Proud Samurai Warrior

By Spencer . August 21, 2012 . 2:35pm

Way of the Samurai 4 will be on PlayStation Network in just a few hours and look at all of the interesting outfits you can make with oversized hats and oni mask shoulder armor. True samurai warriors have no fear of strutting around in a loincloth, especially when having a late night rendezvous.

For more Way of the Samurai 4 wackiness read our developer interview where we discuss the torture system and how the fishing mini-game got into the game.

For some reason the opening picture has me thinking of the theme from Saturday Night Fever.

…They know the game has a good story too, right? Like, not EVERYTHING is tongue-in-cheek or outrageous humor. There’s dramatics and some hard moments, too. It might look goofy because of the budget constraints on the character animations, but beneath the lack of polish it’s just like the other WOTS games (with new stuff, that is).

It really bothers me that XSEED keeps pushing the “Wacky Samurai” schtick with this game. Yeah, it’s there. In abundance. However, there’s more than JUST that. Kind of reminds of NeverDead, how the game was marketed as a comedy when the story itself only had a few comical moments in an overall gritty and kind of depression character tale.

I hope people don’t go into this thinking every corner of it will be hilarious. At that point people stop laughing with the game and start laughing AT it.

Well, several story-oriented trailers have already been floating around, so there’s actually only one silly trailer! The game has quite a few entertaining moments and is generally a title that’s funny /because/ it takes itself so seriously. Trust me on that one! The foreigners kind of make everything entertaining, hahaha.

There is some seriousness in the game, but honestly, there’s just… not that much of it! It’s a very silly game from beginning to end (partially because, as Brittany said, it takes itself so incredibly seriously), and I think to try to sell it as a serious story would be doing it a great injustice. Its story is quite good, sure… but it would be nothing without the goofiness. This is definitely a game best approached with a constant sarcastic attitude, from the first frame till the last. It’ll make the serious parts more surprising, and the goofy parts even better.

Ooh, boy. You should see Kid Icarus: Uprising…

      • Christopher Nunes

God, I love Kid Icarus: Uprising… best 3DS game ever! :D
        (In my humble opinion)

And so starts the journey of the mysterious wandering samurai who broke into people’s homes to stand over their sleeping wives in nothing but a loincloth and oni mask. He didn’t do anything but watch, all night.

He would go on to decide the future of his nation. Always watching, always naked.

    • Christopher Nunes

      Classic dude, classic.

    • LynxAmali

      Could be worse.

Could be the adventures of the cat-carrying, gang-fighting, blacksmith abusing and gardening obsessed lone swordsman who sleeps in your bed when you walk inside your home.

Oh god, how I love WotS.
      Haven’t played since 2 though so…

3 and 4′ll be new for me.

I’M ON IT. Maybe not today, but within the next couple days – this game will be mine.

    • Christopher Nunes

Fight the good fight my brother!

Yeah… that didn’t really make sense here, but I hope you get the game soon! It looks fun!

      • http://chronotwist.deviantart.com/ JustThisOne

Thanks. Soon, my samurai will be wandering on all your screens. >:D Fuu fuu fuu.

  • Rolling Guy

Sad. I’ve been waiting for this but I still can’t get it just because my internet is so slow that it’ll end up failing the download no matter how many times I download it.

I’ll have to wait for the Euro release instead. “orz

    • Christopher Nunes

You do know you can download “in the background” so you don’t have to wait during the downloading screen to download the game and if something goes awry and lose all the data you downloaded so far.

I had slow connection speed before and took days to finally download it, but selecting the download in background option does wonder to prevent any problems it occurs and resumes the downloading after the problem is gone.

      • Rolling Guy

Are you serious? Then even if my download fails numerous times I can continue where I left off before I got disconnected? If so, I’m totally snagging a PSN card! This is the best news (hopefully) I’ve heard! Thanks a buch mate!

        • Christopher Nunes

          Yup.

          No problem man.

  • Christopher Nunes

I NEED to get this game! >_<
I only have about $10 so I need $29.99 more to get it! (I'm glad it's $39.99 for the full game)

And this will be my first Way of the Samurai game in the series, so I believe I'll enjoy it greatly! Also the trailer was AWESOME! Loved the funny parts in it, I know it's not overly funny as the trailer portrayed it but it was great for a laugh, and the Character Customization system looks impressive! I can't wait to make a young youth-looking samurai as my hero.

First thing tomorrow morning I'm buying the PSN Cards to add to my wallet to buy this game!
