Higurashi Creator’s New Game, Rose Guns Days, Getting Manga Adaptation

By Ishaan . August 23, 2012 . 10:00am

Back in January, Higurashi When they Cry creator, Ryukishi07, announced his next project, titled Rose Guns Days, which he subsequently released earlier this month. The game is set in the year 1947.

Anime News Network report that Rose Guns Days’ story takes place in Japan following World War II. In the face of their defeat, the Japanese government allows America and China to divide control of the nation as it recovers from the loss of war. As a result, Japanese people are eventually a minority in their own land, outnumbered by American and Chinese immigrants.

The game’s two main characters appear to be Rose Haibara, who works a the club Primavera and lends money to people to help them rebuild their lives, and Leo Shishigami, known for his reputation among women. Rose Guns Days’ story begins in earnest when the two meet in spring 1947.

Rose Guns Days was released on August 11th in Japan, and is also getting a manga adaptation. The manga will be published in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine, and will be drawn by, Sōichirō, the same artist who worked on the Higurashi manga series. He also designed the characters for Rose Guns Days.

  •  Sounds great. Might screw up their language with all that tonal crap they have going on in China though ._.,

  • The story seems interesting. I will totally look more into this game/manga.

Big fan of Ryukish07. Hope this will not disappoint!

You should look at some of his lesser known works. Some of his mangas are pretty disgusting.

        Lesser known works?  Like Higanbana?

        • $733987

Yup. See, after Higurashi, Umineko and more recently, Ookami Kakushi, I thought I would check out his other works. At that time, there was a new manga released and seeing his name attached to it, I jumped on it. I made it through the first chapter, and then had to find some other more mainstream manga to wash away the after-taste, immediately.

          •  … Disgusting how?

Spoilers for anyone reading. Also, warning for mature themes.

It dealt with some mature themes that I don’t like to read about, like pedophilia and sexual assault. The protagonist was an introverted grade school girl while the antagonist was her teacher. The perverted teacher sexually assaulted her after gaining her trust, and blackmail her into becoming her slave through the photos that he took. After that, he killed her. And when her ghost came back to haunt him, he told her all about his original plans to abuse her, that would have lasted her entire life. He convinced her that it was all her own fault for not fighting back against him, and when she lost her will to fight, he killed her again before abusing her body yet again.

Well, in the end some other ghost came to help her. She then decided to help other people as a ghost. I believe the different arcs in the series focused on different characters and stories

Also, the art was very appropriate for the story. Lots of fluid and lines. Very disgusting visually.

Will this one have multiple chapter releases, like Higurashi and Umineko?

    • Subaru

The released Rose Guns Days title is named as “Season 1” (similar to dividing Higurashi in ‘chapters’, Umineko in ‘episodes’ & Higanbana in ‘nights’) so there will be at least another season (most likely at the time of next Winter Comiket).

        Thanks Subaru!

  • Sounds good to me.

… So after only two years of foreign rule, Japanese people become a minority in their own country. Am I the only one who thinks that sounds just a little bit silly? Like, I can imagine it makes for a pretty interesting setting to have a more ethnically and culturyally diverse Japan… but still, two years?

    • There was a natural disaster actually, that caused the Japanese to fall against the Chinese and Japanese forces. Then Japan is chopped up area by area and Westernized quickly because there was nothing left after the disaster.

      • Göran Isacson

Huh, that DOES sounda  little more sensible. Must have been SOME disaster though, and it’s kinda weird that this info wasn’t in the article-text… but I guess they just forgot to include it?
