Is Namco Bandai Planning A StarBlade Revival?

Namco Bandai likes revisiting the past and re-imagining their library of arcade classics. That’s how Namco Generations and the brilliant remake Pac-Man Championship Edition came about.

Maybe StarBlade is next? Namco Bandai recently filed a trademark for StarBlade in the US for use with video games. A rail shooter with  StarBlade sounds neat, but whatever happened to Namco Generations? Oh, and where’s AstroCross? Namco Bandai announced that as part of their iOS designs.

Bit surprising that between the Wii and Move that lightgun games or on rail shooters would be a natural go to, and yet there have been few to none.

Actually there were a lot of rail shooters on the Wii, spurred by the success of Umbrella Chronicles.

Then a bunch of fanboys started complaining about the lack of proper horror games, I remember the whining about RE5 and a “proper” Dead Space, and some people were ranting about how Capcom apparently deceived them or something. Anyway, this eventually led to low sales of games like Darkside Chronicles and HOD Overkill, which eventually killed the genre on the console. Gee, thanks guys.

(just kidding, I think it was simply saturation and lack of interest that killed the genre. Still not sure what the Capcom deceiving people thing was all about)

As for Move, it’s probably too unpopular to be of any interest to developers, I’d imagine. Sony seems to have mostly given up on it by now. It did get a few shooters anyhow.
