Inside South Korea’s Starcraft Stadium

By Spencer . September 6, 2012 . 11:30am

The I’Park Mall in Yongsan (“Dragon Hill” in Korean) looks like an ordinary electronics shop with floors lined with digital cameras and computer parts. Well, until you get to the top floor and see a Starcraft eSports stadium.

I stopped by hoping to see a live Starcraft match, but there weren’t any games today. Next door, people were crowding around a Special Force II bout.

When Starleague games are in session the arena is packed with cheering fans. Unfortunately, when I visited the stadium was nearly empty.

Holy crap, I go to the IPark in Yongsan ALL the time. Did you check out the Gundam Base there, Spencer?

    • SeventhEvening

Yeah, I go there all the time too. I read this article and thought “how the hell do you get to the top floor?” Every time I try to get to the top I end up in Gundam Base, the wedding hall, or in some daycare at the top of the Airship. The building’s layout is confusing as hell.

Is it! A few months ago, my stepsister and I somehow ended up at the stadium while a tournament was going on, and I’ve never been able to figure out how to get there again. Like- I’m pretty sure you have to take the escalators by the wedding hall area, but by the time I get to the IPark, I’m absolutely tired from walking. Heck, it took me a while to figure out you could cut across the outside area by the daycare to get to the movie theater, arcade, and Gundam Base.

O.O I wish games were that big here.
