La Pucelle: Tactics Returns As A Downloadable PS2 Classic

If you like strategy RPGs and demon hunting, you have to check out La Pucelle: Tactics. This PlayStation 2 game was one of Nippon Ichi Software’s earlier titles. Mastiff licensed the title and localized it while NIS America was setting up shop.

La Pucelle: Tactics has a monster training system where you can groom monsters for battle, but if you push them too hard they may run away. Dark Portals are another unique mechanic since they act as respawn points for monsters, but if you can capture the portals you can do a powerful miracle attack.

La Pucelle: Tactics will be re-released as a PlayStation 3 download on Tuesday. Hmm… I wonder if this is Mastiff’s work or if NIS America got the La Pucelle license back.

C’mon Ghostlight hope you’re listening, we need this in Europe!

  • asch999

Okay NISA, How about La Pucelle : Ragnarok for PSP?

    • Raharu95

Nisa is not localizong anymore PSP games, which is sad, but who can blame them. They would probably need to Re translate or Re-cast this game from scracht, and tha WILL have revenue lost for them.

      • xavier axol

but at least we will get brs.

        • Raharu95

          Brs?

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/5UFEVTPDTXD33NSMUFMX4TEAMQ Mike

“Black Rock Shooter” NIS says they’re going to realease a download only version for the PSP.

          • Raharu95

            Ah yes. I remember.

  • $3587643

    Uncensored? Dual Audio? Playable? Unplayable?

    • Raharu95

Uncensored? Maybe, was the European version censored? Not sure if they would sonehow take the original Japanese version and then add the text english and voice acting. Dual Audio? Was there ever Dual Audio in The Localized La Pucelle? Playable? Sure. Unplayable? Don’t think so ^_^

      • SirRichard

Actually, La Pucelle was censored a lot (see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Pucelle:_Tactics#Censorship ). According to that little bit there, they removed every instance of a cross in the game for fear of setting off religious watchdogs. Croix also had a cigarette that got removed from all animations and portraits, too.

        • http://twitter.com/matty_125 matty

They should have implied that the cigarette was actually a lollipop, like Kojak!

          • Kunio_kun

            Lol… I loves you, Matty.

        • Raharu95

I alreasy knew. I was actuallly asking wether that was true in the EU version as well.

      • $3587643

Yes, sorry, forgot to specify I was asking people who knew what they are talking about.

        • Raharu95

What are you talking, mister? And i also asked wether the European version was as censored as the NA version. I already knew about the censoring in the NA version.

  • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

Now the question is: Will it be the European version ported to here, or the American one, that lacked the New Game+?

Either way, instant buy from me, NIS America needs to see there’s support for La Pucelle!

HECK YEAH now i can play the one old NIS game i never got to play 8D

  • http://alboreo.tumblr.com Alboreo

My first NIS game! I loved this when it first came out, I’ve got to pick it up. :o

    • Curan_Altea

It was my first NIS game as well. I freaking loved it. I’ll gladly download this again, because I can’t find my old copy.

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

So many fond memories of this game!

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

Pretty sure this is Mastiff’s doing, considering Gungrave Overdose is also a PS2 classic.  Maybe NISA contacted them too, but that probably depends if the Japanese version is on PSN.

If it is Mastiff, then this is pretty much the end of the road.  I doubt Pump it up Exceed will be ported due to needing a pad but maybe they will put up Technic Beat next?

  • DesmaX

… I would pick this up, but then I remembered I’ve picked P3 FES and Odin Sphere and didn’t really played it.

But I’m getting it one day, but not on release

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Tohsaka

My hands just started clapping by themselves.

    Spreading the word.

  • Locklear93

Man, if this means there’s even a GHOST of a chance for La Pucelle Ragnarok to see localization (maybe for Steam, ala Cladun x2, if NISA’s not too keen on it for a US PSP release?), I am delighted.  If not, STILL DELIGHTED.

    • Bigabu Beaze

      How bo~ut some n~ew Steam~bot stuff?

      • Locklear93

I wouldn’t be upset by Steambot stuff, but I wouldn’t buy it, either.  I’m in the minority that really didn’t like Steambot Chronicles at all.

  • anarchy_panty

I’ve had this game since it originally released, but I’ve still yet to play it. Even worse than that, I’ve never actually played through a single NIS game…

  • Katamari Toys

I still have hope that some comapny will release La pucelle Ragnarok in US or EU

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000619126996 Emma R Hill

My most recent PS2 game, now to buy it as a PS2 classic. Heh.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000619126996 Emma R Hill

Maybe…if it isn’t US only seeing as the EU store never got GrimGrimoire. :(

    • Bigabu Beaze

      Ladies calm your tits.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stale.laastad Ståle Laastad

such a underrated game, or it actually got good reviews..
    a hidden gem?
anway, hope more people play this :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ismail-Idris/100003565681924 Ismail Idris

a friend gave this to me to play, but i was still in the trance of playing disgaea, i gave it little to no time at all, so tnx for this:)

  • ThatAzure

I always wanted to play La Pucelle: Tactics; this is good an opportunity as any :D. Just curious, can this game also be played on PSVita?

    • Locklear93

PSV will do PSP and PS1 games, but to the best of my knowledge, no support for PS2 games has been announced for Vita even, much less implemented.

    • Bigabu Beaze

      Th~at would b~e sweet! But a~s that gu~y says i~t doesnt lo~ok like i~t!

      MORE MEDA~BOTS MORE PO~WER!

  • Just Tim

I hope that PS2 classics are playable on the Vita, especially when this game’s physical copy is rare and censored.

With these said, I hope NIS America would capitalize on their backlog, via PSN.

    • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

Hilariously, for how rare it is, I managed to find it for $6 at Gamestop.

Now if you wanted it in the /case/ that’s a whole other story…

Though I agree, they gotta make PS2 games compatible with the Vita. NISAmerica really needs to release their games onto PSN, too– Ar Tonelico, Atelier Iris, Mana Khemia, Soul Nomad, Makai Kingdom, and Atlus needs to get on releasing Rhapsody onto there!

I would immediately buy everything they release onto it if they do.

  • eliel

still own the origan for ps2 but this awesome, still would have liked the psp enhanced remake to come to the Us digitally :D

  • Fidelis

    Kinda wanna play this..
But kinda dissuaded by the lack of a “skip attack animation” setting..

After playing a few N1 games with it, I feel it’s gonna be hard to play through one without it again..

  • Xerain

I’m assuming it still has the extensive graphical censoring… so pass… again.

    • Brandon Coley

      Wait what?

      • Xerain

The Japanese version has crosses everywhere. The cross motif is present in pretty much very main character’s design. There were quite a few of them. In the US PS2 version of the game, all the character sprites and graphics were altered to remove the crosses. That much I know for certain.

I’ve also heard, but cannot confirm, in the original version of the game the text also made reference Christianity. There was possibly even some parody of it as well. I imagine it might have been some crazy but potentially offensive Japanese interpretation of Christianity, similar to To Aru Majutsu no Index, if you’re familiar with that intellectual property. In the US version the characters serve a much vaguer religion.

There are some cases where I’ll support such censorship. Usually in cases where the author says “Gee, I did my research but still didn’t realize this symbol is just that loaded. I’ll remove that one cross and change it in the Japanese version too.” (for example the cross removed from the Full metal Alchemist Manga.) This is, however, a lighthearted game prominently featuring religion. The changes were made soley because they wanted to sell the game here yet were afraid of generating negative publicity (read: don’t have the funds to deal with). Not because it’s some error being corrected.

If it’s the same as the original Mastiff version, then it probably is censored…. Which is a shame, I think it was one of the only few games back in those day that actually got censored before every localization of Japanese games became over sensitive about every little things from sexuality to religious reference… This is probably popularized by the insane amount of Yu-gi-oh censor…

Now almost all the games coming from Japan gets censored in one way or another…

  • http://www.facebook.com/phoenix.suzaku Phoenix Suzaku

Hopefully it’s the version with new game+.

    • SetzerGabbiani

That’s the only version I’ll download.  Seriously.  Demon Prier at level 9999 bwaHAHAAHAHHAAH!!!
