Keiji Inafune’s Suprise Is Zombie Game "Yaiba" [Update]

By Spencer . September 11, 2012 . 3:18pm

deadrisingKeiji Inafune has a bunch of projects in the works like Soul Sacrifice, J.J. Rockets, and making cameos in Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2.

Famitsu announced a new game from Inafune-san called Yaiba. Early magazine leaks say it’s a "new zombie game" for an unannounced platform(s). We should be getting more information soon since this sounds like Inafune’s surprise. Keiji Inafune also worked on the Dead Rising series and Dead Rising 2 started with "A Keiji Inafune game."

Update: Famitsu has a little more information about Yaiba. The magazine outlines four concepts: zombie, action, ninja, and mecha. Inafune says there will be elements in Yaiba never before seen in a zombie game. Comcept will reveal Yaiba via a video on September 13.

Inafune is like a machine; this is what, the third or fourth game he’s announced since leaving Capcom? He’s a machine, it’s impressive.

    • malek86

Yeah, third or fourth game he’s announced. But I wish he’d actually finish one. It’s been almost 2 years since leaving Capcom, you’d think he might have got something done by now.

Maybe Soul Sacrifice will be the first to come out, hopefully.

      • Solomon_Kano

Well, he did just put out J.J. Rockets. So that’s something, I guess.

  • Paradox me

Tomorrow he’s going to announce a fighting game. Think about it.

    >Monster hunting game (Soul Sacrifice-Monster Hunter)
    >Side-scrolling action game with super cool hero (J.J. Rockets-Mega Man)
    >Zombie game (Yaiba-Dead Rising)

Questioning such infallible logic would be a waste of your time.

    • This actually is pretty interesting. I thought the same thing. Every game he’s announced thus far—barring KAIO, which we haven’t heard of in a while—is similar in some way to a Capcom series. It makes sense, I suppose, since Inafune was the dude greenlighting a lot of these projects back in the day.

There are so many zombie games that I’m not excited by this, but maybe the game will impress me. I generally like Inafune’s games and ideas, so who knows.

  • Cameron Ward

what ever happened to that pirate king game?

    • It’s still in development. I asked Inafune-san about Kaio when we talked Soul Sacrifice. MAQL hasn’t said anything about it, but it’s in the works.

      • Cameron Ward

it worried me since there is only ONE video of it with no gameplay. sure, the graphics look really nice and the designs are fun, but still..

  • I think I’ve had enough zombies this gen, but if this is for PS4 count me in

“#AmericansAreNecroForZombies” is the joke right now about American gamers…and I’m glad I’m not the only person who has this sentiment.

  • Solomon_Kano

I don’t usually do zombies, but The Walking Dead show has renewed my interest in them. Dead Rising was fun as hell, so I’m definitely interested in what Inafune has up his sleeve for this one.

  • Aoshi00

Can they even use Yaiba as the title, guess it would be written differenlty.. I would always think of the manga/anime “Yaiba” by Aoyama Gosho (Detective Conan)..

    • yes I tought it’s Aoyama’s “YAIBA” too.
I think YAIBA in japanese means sword ..right?

      • Kinda. A more accurate definition would be “blade/edge (of a sharp weapon)”.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Inafking is really on the roll now lol.^_^

But I did see that it seems most of his new franchise here. Get much influence from his capcom work here.

  • I wonder which route he’ll go with the zombies? Is it actually going for horror? Is it going for comedy? Survival?

I doubt he’ll go for a serious survival one. There’s been too many grim ones lately. Or maybe he will, for that specific reason.

    Wii U then?

    September 13th

    “zombie, action, ninja, and mecha”
    LOL that’s a new combination for a zombie game, I think :)

    • natchu96

Add pirates, and we’re all set!

Though you can always throw in the vampires and werewolves. Gods may ruin it, though . . .

      • Kai2591

        Pirates are always welcomed!

  • PersonaBull

I immediately thought of “yaeba” which made it even better that it’s a zombie game.

  • Just Tim

Oh wow, Inafune, doing a zombie game outside of Capcom?  This is rather amusingly ironic, especially when the joke right now about Capcom is that they’ll change their mascot from Classic MegaMan to Nemesis.
