Tales Producer Says You Should Play Tales Of Hearts

By Spencer . September 12, 2012 . 3:02pm

talesofhWhile Namco Bandai is giving the Tales series a big push, we missed out on a bunch of games. Speaking with Siliconera, Tales of producer Hideo Baba said Tales of Phantasia was one of the most important games since it started the Tales series.

"To expand the fanbase, I would like players to have a chance to play previous titles that weren’t released overseas," Baba declared. I asked which title in particular he wants to bring to the West.

"I received so many inquiries about the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia," acknowledged Baba. "Personally, I would want players to play Tales of Hearts for the Nintendo DS because the team pushed the DS hardware to the maximum and the game’s story is about the heart. Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to localized Tales of Hearts, but this one is my favorite one."

Tales of Hearts came out in 2008 and was released in two flavors – one with anime cutscenes, the other with CG cutscenes.

lol kaji needs to hurry his ass up already xD

  • Curan_Altea

While I certainly don’t see a localization of Hearts anytime soon, I’d definitely like to see one. Personally I preferred Innocence though.

  • MrTyrant

Personally I would prefer to play Destiny Remake or Tales of Rebirth. Give me Heart if you want, I won’t complain anyway D:

  • Machineguntommy

Please bring Hearts and Tales of Innocence (Vita Remake) here in some way shape or form.

    • Lightthrower

Forgot about Innocence in my post! Yeah the remake looks totally badass!

  • LynxAmali

I actually have Hearts sitting in it’s actual case beside my copy of ACE 3: The Final, still in it’s original packaging on my shelf.

Can’t play it because my DS is crap worthy right now. Freaking Trigger buttons.

    • greenellow

what ds model is it that’s giving you trouble? if its a lite you can try cupping your mouth around the trigger and then blow on it for bout 5 seconds, but its not a permanent and you’ll have to do it every so often . not sure if this will work on the dsi models though.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu of Spades

    That’s good to hear…finally. xD

  • Natat

Hearts is one of my favorites no doubt! It’s rather broken and spammy, but that’s part of its charm.

  • Ethan_Twain

I was really bummed that the DS Tales games never received localization.  Tales of Hearts in particular was interesting because of their two different sets of cutscenes.  I guess it wasn’t such an awful fate though, it’s not like the DS lacked in other JRPGs.

Here’s a question that I wish I could see Ishaan break down in one of his nice sales crunching posts.  How did Tales on the DS sell in Japan, how did Tales on the 3DS sell in Japan, and how did Tales on the 3DS sell outside of Japan.  If Tales of the Abyss 3D sold well internationally, could that mean that other 3DS Tales games could be localized?  Did it sell well enough in Japan to even warrant further 3DS Tales games?  I feel like we could figure out how things stand pretty well if we had the data.

  • http://watercrown.info/ Ryusui

In case you haven’t noticed, Mr. Baba, WE FREAKING CAN’T!

    AND I’M HOLDING YOU RESPONSIBLE!

  • https://twitter.com/RaiohV Raioh

Hearts had the best story of any Tales game I played, and a fantastic cast, but since I played it already, I’m gonna play Xillia2 instead, no complains, right Baba?

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

Namco needs to listen to this guy.

    • Zeromus321

Well Namco Bandai is trying to be better with Tales series in the west now. Too bad it took them so long. It would probably be a well established JRPG series here in the west if the they had just kept pushing it in the west after Vesperia had been localized.
But I agree Namco does need to listen to this guy.

  • Kaihedgie

I’ll be honest…the Tales series seems to really be my cup of tea and yet…I never found myself actually getting any of the games. I’ve seen playthroughs and snippets from a good deal of the games but something that’s always bugged me is how…utterly bland and cliche it feels. It’s not the gameplay. Far from that. No, it’s something else…maybe the stories in some of those games? Maybe the naming of the attacks? I don’t know, I can’t say.

    • Arrei

I don’t even know what you’re trying to say. It’s your cup of tea, and it’s not?

Especially considering the extent of your experience with the games is watching someone else play in a video, getting none of the actual enjoyment.

      • Kaihedgie

Thing is, I sampled Symphonia years ago when I was young and I really liked it.

        But now? ….Ehhh.

        • Zeromus321

I just played through Tales of Symphonia again during my summer break. And I still liked it and I’m 20. :(

          • Kaihedgie

Not sayin’ it’s bad or anythin’. It’s just a perplexing matter for me in particular.

  • AuraGuyChris

“Tales Producer Says You Should Play Tales of Heart”

    Everybody Outside Japan: [Laughs]

Seriously, though. If there are still Pokemon games coming out, this one has a chance… SOMEHOW.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Pokemon’s a bad example to use in this case.

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

True. Because Pokemon is Pokemon. Simple as that. And this is Tales.

      • AuraGuyChris

I meant the fact there are mainline Pokemon games coming out for the DS, even though there are a few new games for the DS to these days.

        Unless you also meant that…

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

I was mostly referring to the fact that Pokemon is extremely popular worldwide.

  • MrJechgo

    Wish I could, but there’s a little problem… IT’S NOT OUT IN ENGLISH !

    Like I’m gonna play a game that I don’t understand a word…

  • Anime10121

Baba, I’d love to play Hearts too, or Vesperia PS3, or Destiny Remake, or Destiny 2, or Rebirth, so hows about we get to making both of our wishes come true hm :P

  • kylehyde

How I’m supposed to play a game which language I can’t understand?

My suggestion, bring it to the eshop and then we talk.

    • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

      +1 eshop edition.
Tales of Hearts complete with both cutscene versions.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

If Phantasia’s so important, why wasn’t Tales of Phantasia: Cross Edition localized?

    • ronin4life

Well, the original was released on the GBA over here.
Fun game, but the outdated graphics make it a little disorienting…@.@

      • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

        The GBA version’s bad.

        • Hraesvelgr

To be honest, “bad” doesn’t even really begin to say how terrible the GBA version was…

          • M’iau M’iaut

Agreed. My buddies at the time could just never figure out why they would even bother to give us what was at the time the Tales came everyone wanted in such a buggy mess of a form. It really is almost unplayable.

    • sd28

because it was a free bonus with another game

    • Setsu Oh

it s on psn i think…. buy it, get a dictionnary…..^^ or but it and buy used and play the censored gba version in parallel

  • Reiko_Chan

I’ll play anything they bring overseas.

  • ivanchu77

Maybe if it gets localized first sir

  • Darkrise

We all would if we could… Ah language barrier is such a pain. =/

  • XypherCode

    Please localize!! xD

  • E15

How about localizing Tales of Hearts for us overseas or a port of Tales of Hearts for the 3DS? Even as a download plz?
    I’ll be your best friend~  :]

  • sd28

played it and it was great better than vesperia in my opinion

  • Revorse

The hell? That’s like asking someone in a wheelchair to go for a walk with you.

  • Lightthrower

Well since the DS is long gone now, I doubt we’d get Tempest or Hearts (Tempest looks terrible, but Hearts looks pretty awesome!). Maybe Vesperia… but I’d personally love to see Tales of Rebirth for whatever console (best 2D looking Tales game IMHO)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

I would love if someday we could play it seeing how it was one of the best Tales on the DS

  • $24431191

I’d gladly play all of the Tales games if they got localized.

  • http://momentsreprieve.com/index/ Aushria

He wants people outside of Japan to play it, even tells us to play it— then he goes on to say that there are no plans?

Baba, your logic is so stupid. It’s almost as bad as the excuse he made regarding Tales of Vesperia PS3 about:

    “Lessening the burden of development,”

Really? Sorry, that’s just as much crap as everything else he says. Espescially in Vesperia’s case, since people who tore through the PSN demo and the game itself found English assets and localized text for PS3 only content.

I don’t take anything that man says seriously anymore, especially with the ToX2 lie he told…

Week before reveal: It’s not a sequel to Tales of Xillia— nor is it related to it.
The next week: Tales of Xillia 2 is revealed and he acts as if he never claimed that it wasn’t related to Xillia.

Either way… we can’t play the older titles if you don’t localize them Baba— with all this talk of you wanting us to play them, it would only make sense for SOMETHING to be in the works. Right?

    • IshimaruKaito

      AMEN!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bobby-Jennings/100000158197173 Bobby Demetris Jennings

You’re wrong about the ToX2 lie. It was actually a mistake on Abyssal Chronicles part, Baba never lied about anything.

Also he probably does have plans to release Tales of Hearts, but of course, he can’t say that he is right now. The only thing I can agree with here is Tales of hearts being his favorite one when I coulda sworn Graces was his favorite.

      • Arrei

I don’t know about having plans to release Hearts. It’s a 2008 NDS game, so its only chance of being released would be as an unlikely eShop download or as part of the Reimagining series, which we currently don’t even know is still ongoing or not, given the current state of the Vita.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bobby-Jennings/100000158197173 Bobby Demetris Jennings

Yeah I know, I mean I’m just saying If he was to release it, he wasn’t going to tell us ahead of time like people believe. He could just release it as a DS game, it’s not like we still can’t enjoy it. He plans on re-releasing these games anyway, just do an R version like Innocence or something.

  • Elemiel

    Quit rubbing it in, Baba!

    • Just Tim

If Hideo Baba continues to rub it in our faces, he’ll be the reason why the Tales franchise will be stripped of flagship status to Tekken, Gundam, or Dragonball!

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Tales has flagship status? Since when?

  • $36598391

Tales Producer Says You Should Play Tales Of Hearts, Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to localize Tales of Hearts

    uh…..

  • IshimaruKaito

hmmm?? i was thinking of importing it but i thought “i don’t know japanese, i would get soooo lost!”

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

The game is actually pretty straight forward. The overworld (the first time you experience it) is like Tales of Graces’ in some aspects in that it is interconnected pathways. So places are blocked off so you can’t go to them until later in the game. There is also a fan translation in the works and there are walkthroughs to direct you if you get lost.

  • piichan

“To expand the fanbase, I would like players to have a chance to play previous titles that weren’t released overseas, and NEVER plan on bringing overseas,”
    Baba lold.
As a tales fan, my heart is now surrounded with steel to avoid any further heartbreak caused by the unlocalization of many in the series.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

localize more tales games then geez

  • yellowmage

“I received so many inquiries about the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia”

Really? So, don’t you think that those requests just might be trying to, you know, tell you something? Hm? Hint-hint!

I mean, The First Strike has been localized (though it’s not due out here ’til December)!! Without the PS3 version of the game, with all the links between the two, what’s the point!?

    • Arrei

The First Strike doesn’t require PS3 version events in order to make sense, FYI.

I suppose whoever does marketing for the series just doesn’t think it’s worthwhile to localize the PS3 version though… such a shame.

  • Just Tim

    Dear Mr. Hideo Baba,

Your comment is #NOTfunny, especially when we western Tales fans had to endure excessive amounts of Dragonball and Naruto shoved on our throats, and especially not to mention the fact of lack of Tales games outside of Japan, this past gaming generation.

With the “You Should Play Tales of Hearts” comment to the western audience only threatens the Tales franchise into being stripped of flagship status to either Tekken, Gundam, or heck, even Dragonball!

    US$0.02

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

When we were talking it was a casual conversation. It was kind of like, “hey what did we miss out on?” and Baba suggested Tales of Hearts. Namco has taken a lot of heat for releasing Dragonball (which was actually Atari for many years, but anyway!) and Naruto, but Baba and Namco have been pushing to bring more Tales games in the West. Gotta give them credit there! I mean I remember when people here were complaining we were talking about the Japanese games because they wouldn’t come over, discussion leads to things happening! If no one discusses these things then people don’t know what’s out there.

      • Just Tim

Yes, I still remember back in the 2000s that Atari had the US publishing rights for Dragonball games, while all Namco Bandai did was acquire it to coincide with DBZ Kai’s US airing.

With that said, the title totally rubbed me the wrong way worse than losing to Roll in Tatsunoko VS Capcom!

    • Arrei

What are you even talking about, in regards to being stripped of flagship status because he said we should play a game we won’t be getting on our shores? That doesn’t even make sense.

      • Just Tim

If anything, I’ve always felt Tales is Namco’s flagship #franchise, hence the comment,

“With the “You Should Play Tales of Hearts” comment to the western
audience only threatens the Tales franchise into being stripped of
flagship status to either Tekken, Gundam, or heck, even Dragonball!”

        • Arrei

That still doesn’t mean it makes any sense to think that a game would be “stripped” of flagship status because he thinks we should play a game that was never released here…

  • Eliézer Dos Santos

So, he will pay japanese lessons for us all? That’s what i get.

  • Jonathan Keycross

Well hearts is the earliest entry of the franchise whose gameplay is the closest to Phantasia and Destiny.

I saw some gameplay videos and I must agree that the team really did a good job showing what the DS was capable of at the time.

    • kevinposta

Actually the earliest entry that’s like Phantasia and Destiny would be Narikiri Dungeon X. Unless you only meant “mothership” titles (though NDX is pretty mothership-y itself) :(

      • Jonathan Keycross

Yeah, I meant Hearts as a “main series” considering that the Narikiri Dungeon, like Radiant Mythology, is more oriented to satisfy the existing fanbase rather than expand it.

        • kevinposta

Actually, the first Narikiri Dungeon has no relationship to the other 2 and Radiant Mythology.
It’s an actual sequel to Phantasia.

  • FlameEmperor

“Personally, I would want players to play Tales of Hearts for the Nintendo DS because the team pushed the DS hardware to the maximum and the game’s story is about the heart. Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to localizedTales of Hearts, but this one is my favorite one.”

Not cool……… Don’t get me excited just to break my heart after……
Stop playing with my emotions and localize this game already!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Tohsaka

There’s always fan translators waiting to take money out of your pockets.

Don’t believe me?  I’m pretty sure everyone in this article has played the Super Famicom fan translated port of Phantasia, if he wants to bring that up.

  • Andrew Austin

I always found it odd that they made a CGI and Animated version of Hearts. At one point Namco must have thought about bringing it overseas.

It really reminded me of when the US 360 version of Star Ocean had CG portraits as opposed to the animated portraits in the Japanese version.

  • http://vanilladice.deviantart.com/ Dice

Everything about this post sucks.  No Hearts. No PS3 Vespy.

MY FAVORITE GAME YOU’LL NEVER PLAY

    Meng… what the hell

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Humzah-Jan/100001147084979 Humzah Jan

This was a completely unnecessary thing by him if you aren’t going to localize either, lol.

  • Brandonmkii

The amount of hatred in the comments section is astounding. I’m sure this guy would love more people to play his games, but ultimately it doesn’t come down to him which games get localized. Any Tales game released previous to Graces that wasn’t released here probably isn’t going to. The best I can do as a fan is support the titles we do get. I bought Vesperia, and I don’t even own a 360! I bought Abyss 3DS and I’m probably never going to play it. Support the things you love, guys. I know people who purposely decided not to get Graces only because they were mad that we never got Vesperia PS3. It boggles my mind.

    • Grenalie

“Ohh man, this ice cream is so sweet and good.  You should really try this, what’s that you have lactose intolerance?  My bad, just remember that this is so good and you’ll never eat it.”

      • Arrei

Man, you say that like he’s bragging that Japanese players can experience the game. He’s just mentioning he’d like other fans to play Tales of Hearts, but a release simply isn’t in the cards. Doesn’t mean we should just rag on the guy for it.

      • Brandonmkii

Not a really good analogy, seeing as being lactose intolerant is something you can’t do anything about. It would take a little work, but there’s nothing stopping you from playing Hearts. Better chance then someone with lactose intolerance enjoying ice cream. And it’s not like he’s rubbing it in. He wants  other people to enjoy Hearts as much as he does! I know you might feel a little snubbed over not getting it in your native language, but it’s not a direct result of his actions.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Yeah, I’m just as shocked. It’s an honest response from a developer giving his opinion.

      • Brandonmkii

Sometimes the internet makes me really sad. By “sometimes,” I mean “most of the time.”

        • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

I hear you and it’s why I’m reluctant to comment. It’s just knee jerk rage.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bobby-Jennings/100000158197173 Bobby Demetris Jennings

I bought Abyss 3DS too, didn’t even touch it yet, lol. But I got my full play when the PS2 version came out.

  • http://simplephilistine.wordpress.com/ Arla

Will do once the fan trans is done.

    • SupaPhly

I think the fan translation has been cancelled

  • Three Dawns

People need to chill out. If anything, I take this as a good sign/hint that he wants the west to play Tales of Hearts. Sure, he has no plans to localize the DS version, but there has been hints of a remake version of Tales of Hearts coming to the PS Vita much like Tales of Innocence R. So, if that is the case, we just might see a localization on the Vita.

    • $36598391

If It’s not either of the DS versions then I refuse to buy it

      • Three Dawns

And my question to you is.. why?… If they do release and localize a remade version of Hearts on the Vita, why would you not buy that over the DS version when the Vita version is far superior? If you compare Innocence and Innocence R.. there really is no competition… Innocence R trumps the original in every way. It really boggles my mind how ‘fans’ of the series would just not suport the series due to minor little things. Just how some people did not buy Graces F just because they didn’t localize the inferior Wii version…

        • $36598391

Because I would rather have the original version over a remake unless the remake is exactly identical to the original in every way other then updated graphics
The PSP remakes of the SFC and PS1 Star Ocean games were done correctly, Other then updated graphics they were exactly the same as the originals
If Tales of Hearts got a remake on Vita it would end up like the Ys IV remake on Vita which uses the battle system from Ys Seven instead of remaining faithful to the SFC/PC Engine versions of Ys IV

  • Maumac77

Yes he has no plans to localize Tales of Hearts…… but that’s because we’d be getting Tales of Hearts R right?????? :D

  • Spirit Macardi

I’d love to play Tales of Hearts, especially since Guy Cecil, Lloyd Irving, and even Klonoa appear in it as summons.

If it is remade though, please make it for 3DS.

  • Visa Vang

Just release the Patty DLC for the 360 and I’ll be fine. I’ve been waiting too long for that PS3 version of Vesperia. I still welcome it though. And BRING IT ON THE HEARTS!!

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Dude if you were just having a simple conversation with him, giving his opinion, which led to nothing important, then why’d you decide to post this little quote for everyone to see. No disrespect ut did you not have the foresight to think that this might just anger people?

    • Arrei

Just to get discussion about the series going, I reckon, and Tales could certainly benefit from people talking about it more after being dormant for so long. I suppose the “wounds” left by Vesperia PS3 still sting a bit, though, which is where all the knee-jerk is coming from.

All this rage over Baba merely saying he’d like fans to play a game that isn’t going to be localized, however, is just saddening. It’s exactly the kind of thing the Tales fanbase needs to stop doing if we’re going to get newcomers interested in the series. Show them our good side, not this side.

      • Ethan_Twain

I wouldn’t worry too much – I kinda doubt outsiders are looking too close at the comments below Siliconera stories, much less stories like this that are little more than a quick quotation out of an interview.

Not trying to be dismissive or anything, but this site (I reckon) mostly caters to people already “in the know” about this sort of thing.  It was as intimidating as hell for me when I first came here, and I still don’t understand some of the abbreviations and lingo people sling around in these parts.  The open thread can read like an entirely different language sometimes :)

        • Arrei

I was referring more to this behavior in general – some members of the fanbase are prone to getting whipped into a frothing rage when the un-localized titles are up for debate, and it’s not like they turn into different people upon going to a different website.

It’s certainly a damn shame what Bamco’s poor marketing decisions have done to the potential success the series had in the west, but it does nobody any good to snap at everything Baba says either, particularly over a statement as innocuous as this.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

An opinion from the creator of the Tales series *is* important. It’s a candid response to what he feels, I mean this is the creator talking.

I think if anything people need to get their anger in check. There are things that might upset or anger me in real life like a friend being hurt or seeing a child on the street begging for money.

Hearing what the creator of a video game series would like fans to play, even though it wasn’t localized wouldn’t be one of them.

    • Luna Kazemaru

So I take it you are reading into this the wrong way like the other people posting here. Great job.

  • Enigma_XIV

A potential nudge to “Tales of Hearts R” as hinted in Innocence R? Most likely not, but one can dream…

  • MrRobbyM

I want to leave a comment but I’m afraid I’ll get attacked with all the rage in here. I think I’m just going to leave while I still have my limbs.

  • Zefiro Torna

It’s unfortunate this is being interpreted as “hay u guuise shuld play hearts itsoawesome! oh u cant tobad trollololo” instead of “try requesting something other than Vesperia PS3 for once, like Hearts, I think it’s worth bringing over.”

  • Christopher Nunes

That’s nice to know that the creator of the Tales series wants his fans from overseas to play his Tales game! I would love to play Tales of the Heart, the anime version (CG doesn’t work out for the Tales series unless it’s more anime-like like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games), and the other Tales series games.

I’m sadden about the PS3 Vesperia, too, because it adds more to an awesome game in my opinion and it sucks Namco of America won’t localize it. If the creator of the Tales series had more control of the situation I think he would bring the games oversea to us! And I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Also, though it seems like it’s not going to be localized, he does hint at something about Hearts. A possible R version remake for the VITA? I would love to see that and Innocence R to be localized for the US! I’m keeping my fingers cross and pray that it happens!

I love the Tales series! ^_^
Buying Xillia when it comes out Day One, just like with Abyss 3DS and Graces f for the PS3!

  • Nitraion

“To expand the fanbase, I would like players to have a chance to play previous titles that weren’t released overseas,”
    My reaction: YAy!! :D
“Personally, I would want players to play Tales of Hearts for the Nintendo DS because the team pushed the DS hardware to the maximum and the game’s story is about the heart. Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to localizedTales of Hearts, but this one is my favorite one.”my reaction: LOL what a trolll XD
My comment: It’s like Namco NA and JP it’s no in sych, it’s like Namco NA in “NO” side and Baba In “YES” side but in the end Namco NA always winning except this time on graces and xillia.

  • IsaacGravity

Hearts is a definite “must import” game when it comes to the DS. The cast is very likable and what little I could make out of the story was pretty interesting. The journey itself was pretty fun really. There’s A LOT to do and even if the language is out of understanding, as long as you know the basics of RPG 101 (backtracking for the hell of it after major events) you’re set when it comes to events and Spir Linking various NPCs.

The fast and frantic battle system (much of it borrowed from the ToD DC) is where the game REALLY sings though. What I really like about this game was you actually WANTED to play as everyone more than you’d expect because of how well each character’s play-style meshes with the system. This gets taken home even further as the player continues to evolve and build each character’s Soma Build.

All-in-all great game and like a number of great DS games (like 7th Dragon) that got held-up at the localization train is well worth it.

  • Hinataharem

    How can we??

With reading Spencer’s responses, I really don’t think Baba meant anything other than ‘if you are asking me which one of the series I would like a fan to play, it’s Hearts’. Just one fan talking to other fans — not some bragging elite waving red meat in front of our faces.

Not trying to pick on your comment, it’s just far enough up the list for others to see.

      • Hinataharem

I was seriously asking…I assumed it was some vague announcement.

        My mistake.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I take this opinion as Taba wanting fans overseas to try the other “Tales of” games, but the messed up thing is that Namco NA and Namco JPN aren’t really on the same page when it comes to localization (unless you count their recent efforts with Graces, Abyss, and Xillia). If Namco NA was willing to go back and try to localize the ones we never got, then sure, more people would give them a shot. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

So the next best thing would be to remake them like Innocence R and put them on Vita or 3DS. But there still hasn’t been any word of if they’ll bring that one over here. So basically they need to figure out a plan of action for the future of the series if they want to grow the fanbase…

    • LightZero

They already said that Innocence R isn’t coming. But we can hope for Hearts R at least if it comes to existence.

      • Christopher Nunes

Wait… when was this!? And why not!?

        • MrRobbyM

I don’t know the reason given, but honestly, Vita sales and a remake of a DS game that wasn’t even that good to begin with.

      • ZEROthefirst

They never actually said that we wouldn’t get Innocence R, just that they have no plans for it right now, and that we may or may not see it sometime in the future. We’ll probably see it if the Vita’s sales go up well in the West.

  • http://www.thejaystack.com/ Jon Stachewicz

A Phantasia lover?  I like the cut of your jib, Baba

    • M’iau M’iaut

The first born is always special.

      • Tom_Phoenix

I don’t know. I can think of a few examples where the first game is treated as an oddity at best and a black sheep at worst. Street Fighter would be a prominent example.

  • LightZero

I would love to Baba but I just need the game to be localize. But I do hope this is a hint towards the potential Hearts R being localize one day. Honestly I couldn’t careless about Vesperia PS3 being localize. The Destiny Remake, Rebirth, and Hearts are much higher on my wish list as far as the Tales series goes.

    • MrRobbyM

Yeah, I don’t care for Vesperia PS3 anymore. I just popped in Vesperia recently after playing Graces F and tbh, I find it unplayable. It’s just so slow and boring compared to Graces. Kind of a shame since I love everything else about the game.

      • agumike (けんじ)

Likewise. And Hearts is very fun. The characters grow on you really fast. I’d love this to be remade

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

Yeah give us English speaking peasant Tales games.

  • FFmax

If you guys localize this I will snag this up in a heartbeat.

  • Kyle D. Johnson

    Gee… thanks, Baba. :|

  • AceWildCard

    so how bout dat xillia!?~ can I gid a w00t w00t <3

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1019824032 William Suhenda

Sir, how can we play the game when it’s not localized? We can cut the voice acting if necessary, but the game has to be understood first to be appreciated. Not everyone is fluent in Japanese or have time to translate every single sentence to English. As much as I like the Tales series and want to support it, the lack of localization is contradictory to Hideo Baba’s wishes. Wonder why he would even make such a comment.

    • Arrei

As said below, it’s simply Baba’s opinion, in a discussion specifically about the games that were never localized. He likes Hearts a lot and wishes for us to experience it, but it’s not exactly in his power to just snap his fingers and magic up a localized version for us.

Oh, but what a glorious existence it would be if he could do that…

  • Alexander Aubert

so, are you concidering about ToV PS3 to us or eu?

  • CirnoLakes

Oh~, well, if you say so~.
I’ll take an English language copy of the game. Yes I will.

  • Alphabet Soup

I’m glad Baba has taken such an interest in the Western fanbase.  I know people are frustrated because of what we haven’t gotten, but with the the way things have been in the industry over the past few years, this is a much better alternative than the Japanese producers giving up after poor sales, saying the West “doesn’t get it”, and pulling the plug on localization altogether.

  • Setsu Oh

Mr baba, i don t mind playing the jp version of vesperia. i did for the excellent sequel of destiny and loved it.
there are full games on psn, put te vesperia game on psn jp and ill play it.

  • SupaPhly

    LOL

  • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

If Hearts being localized, I’ll think about it… :)

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Man, the amount of hate towards Baba here is just….wow.T_T Over here, Baba just mention his opinion that Hearts is one of title that Tales fans should try.

He also mentioned that he wanted for Tales fans to try Hearts here but, what can he do here? The one who decides whether one game should be localized or not is surely the top dog on Bamco U.S there.

IN the end, if Tales fans wanted to try Hearts, import is not a bad choice too as DS does not have any region locked there and about the language, thats the main reason we had dictionary too isn’t it?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001559914929 Timothy Solis

Baba pretty much admitted to stopping Vesperia PS3 from being brought over here. So, yeah, people can blame him. There’s no reason to hate the guy, but I really am frustrated with a lot of his decisions as of late.

  • WolfDuo

Please get them localizing Vesperia PS3! The others will come “by themselves” (months ago Baba said some old Tales of will come to US/EU); but Vesperia PS3 needs our help to get localized! Please, mail them… one more time, together! Let’s make PS3 the perfect console for Tales of fans.

  • Crimson_Cloud

Except for the awesome and refreshing protagonist Yuri, Vesperia wasn’t all that awesome for me. Other cast didn’t sit right with me for some reason. But yeah, quite a few people loved it so it’s a shame that PS3 owners couldn’t play it.

  • jonoepic69

ok first of this whole thing with the hate on BABA. needs to tone down. its disgusting to see so called fans . act this way. ur insulting the creator of the games u claim to love and adore. and most of you guys obviously forget if it weren’t for him in the first place. you would not have theses games. none of them exspecaily vesperia witch in my eyes was the worst. so get rid of that hard on for ps3 vesperia its called get a job and buy a 360 or borrow a 360. i mean really i would rather get games here that weren’t released here yet. but now we got childish so called fans of the tales series all up in this place. and yes i said so called. cause true fans arent gonna act like rabbid dogs or seem like they need there rabbie shots. thats probly one reason why we dont get much love for the tales here caus eim a tales fan and ill even say 90% of the fan base is a sadden childish group of jokes and he probly see all the hate hes getting because he wont re release and already released game here. so the ignorant and complainers on here need either medical help or go to a shrink and grow up and be thankful were still even getting any of these games.

    • Keichi Morisato

the reason people want the PS3 version of vesperia is because they added to the content, made the actual story longer, and added a few more permanent party members that weren’t permanent before. though i do agree stop hating, the resaon he doesnt want to is because by the time it is released the DS may not be quite the mainstay. though i personally think the the king of the handhelds the DS wont be going anywhere anytime soon…

  • isfuturebright

I don’t no why Namco Bandai is so picky when it comes to tales of… Why they get so freaky about bringing their tales games to the west? If the game is good we’ll play it!

How do you expect to grow your fanbase if you keep no releasing you games here and keep jumping platforms like crazy?
I really like tales of series but impossible to keep up with it… I’d love to play graces, ops sorry you need to have a PS3 for that. Oh I’d like to play Vesperia, oh get a X360. I mean come on… Give us some multi-platform at least…. god.

    • artemisthemp

Microsoft pay Namco for not publishing Vesperia for PS3 in the West, since it would hurt the 360.

      • http://www.facebook.com/doyouknowwhoithinkiam Shahzaib Balouch

That ran up. I’m pretty sure they can publish it now.

      • Misty Dawson

It never happened. It was just a rumor.

  • XiaomuArisu

Well Im playing Graces already and im loving it.
I played Phantasia and Symphonia and loved them.
One of my friends has vesperia for the 360 and the ps3.
Bring them to me,I will play them!
Would preorder xillia if it would be possible to preorder it nowXD

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tianyu-Wei/100000304118353 Tianyu Wei

Obviously… ToV PS3 is the most wanted Localized title… The amount of stuff added to ToV PS3 is INSANE compare to Graces F.

  • Salman

I would play all the tales of games only if they were in english…

  • Salman Castillo

Been waiting for namco to release TOV on ps3 in english and nothing is ever going to happpen…

  • http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/21421.html?type=4 Kashell

How about a sub-text translation from this idiot who needs to get hit in the face a few times.

Baba: “Play Tales of Hearts. It has a great story. Too bad you won’t be able to understand it. Ever. Mwa ha ha! Oh? You think some fan translation will help things? Yeah, like those ever get finished in a timely manner! Mwa ha ha!”

  • Schwer_Muta

    Man, what an unfortunate statement.

I’d love to play these games too. But it’s not gonna happen without localization, and the games are old enough that really, the ship has sailed. So it’s like… thanks for the recommendation, bro?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001559914929 Timothy Solis

Hearts just looked odd. I tried it, and it just felt wrong. And I really don’t see how it pushed the DS hardware at all. Innocence, THAT pushed the DS.
But, there is a pretty strong part of the Tales fanbase that loved Hearts. If it were remade maybe I’d like it more? As long as they ditched the sprites and went more 3D.

But, really, it’s kind of a bit of a jerk move to tell people to import a game in a language they don’t understand.

  • Seijien

Tales of Hearts has been my favorite in the series ever since it released. Hopefully if the game is remade like ToIR, it will get a localization so everyone can play it.

  • Anthony Hayball

Come on. If you want us to play it then Localize it then. We can’t play it in the Japanese Language.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001059050301 Jermaine Kanhai

If they’re going to release Tales of Hearts as a Eshop NDS Download or a port/remake for the 3DS, I’m 100% behind it! But please, don’t let it be on the PS Vita. I mean, Vita kinda flops, doesn’t it?
Anyway, there’s this guy Kajitani Eizan who’s currently fan translating Tales of Hearts for the NDS. He’s doing it for years already, but I’m quite optimistic that he’ll finish it within these years. GO HEARTS!

  • Freud_Hater

If it’s in english, I’ll buy it… Though I can’t import Tales of Hearts as it would imply importing a Japanese 3DS… Which sucks like crazy…

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Hmm, I think you’re mistaken. Tales of Hearts is for the Nintendo DS, not 3DS.

  • puchinri

I would love if we got both versions here, I was really looking forward to Hearts.

  • Nadia

I reaaally, really wanted Hearts… ;_; Too bad.. maybe they’ll make a port or a remake, one day?

  • Brandon Coley

remake the game for the 3ds than

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001059050301 Jermaine Kanhai

I second that! (Screw Vita! No offence to the Vita, but it sales suck compared to the 3DS — and we all know Namdai wants money, and they’ve created a fanbase of Tales thanks to the 3DS, especially in Europe)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Miguel-Salmoyraghi/100000951095213 Miguel Salmoyraghi

I don’t understand that, first he talk about the localization of vesperia and at the same time don’t say anything about a possible localization. Then he say that he want people play tales of hearts because is his favorite game but even he don´t
know if that game will be released so in the end don´t say anything relevant.

  • Tails the Foxhound

You should play my favorite Tales game, Hearts. *No details of a localization.*
