Ah, Good Old Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R Looks Crisp On Vita

Arc System Works had Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R on display at their booth. I tried the PlayStation Vita version, which let me try one fight. I picked Faust and gave the computer controlled opponent a beatdown. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R has been rebalanced, but one play session isn’t enough to see what tweaks Arc System Works made.

The game looks sharp on the PlayStation Vita’s screen, but it’s played in a window. After clearing the demo, a message confirmed tutorial mode and M.O.M. mode will be in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R for PlayStation Vita.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is slated for release in 2013. Arc System Works will also re-release Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in October.

I’ll get it. Kind of strange how Vita is getting Accent Core R, while the PS3/360 will be the standard edition and then later upgraded to R

    • Natat

PS3/360 will probably upgrade to +R sooner than Vita getting it, since it says 2013 release, and I don’t think ASW is going to delay the +R patch for consoles for that long.

Probably means they already had the console versions more or less done.

    4:3? What is this. 2004?

    • Kefkiroth

That’s what also annoyed me… at least it isn’t a reverse pan and scan, which would be worse.
It would’ve been nice if they actually expanded the art to accommodate the 16:9 screen. All that rebalancing they said they did, but the 4:3 with borders just make it look like a lazy port.

      • Astrotrain

For the last time, people, fighting games programed in 4:3 can’t be changed into 16:9 without breaking the balance of the gameplay.

        • Manny Being Manny

Then don’t port it to a handheld. The screens are small enough, but doing 4:3 makes it even worse.

          • Derek E Nay

So they should not let Vita users play the game? They want to port it, but they can’t spend all the money to upgrade it.

        • Kefkiroth

I never said they necessarily had to have the fighters move all the way across the screen, they should at least expand the art so it isn’t just two big borders. They could put in invisible borders so the fighters couldn’t pass the “4:3″ field.
Just out of curiosity (I am by no means an avid fighting game player), why does 16:9 break fighting games?

          • Astrotrain

But then it would look ugly like MVC2 on PS3/360. It beaks the balance because if they change it to 16:9 the characters would be fighting in a wider area, so everything, proyectiles, launches, dashes, would’ve to travel longer, and combos from the original version wouldn’t be possible now.

          • Kefkiroth

Ah, I see, that makes more sense now.

its full screen here?? it there an option we dont know about?

  • Solomon_Kano

Not sure if I want this for Vita or PS3 yet. I mean, PS3 is the usual spot for my fighters, but I did get into Guilty Gear on PSP. Seems fitting to own it on a portable once again.

    • Kris

I’ve got the same internal debate! XD

Which probably means I’ll be getting the game for both systems… God help me.

      • Dede Ogbe

If i may, i’d recommend the vita version. I bought Blazblue for the vita and the ps3, and the vita is alot better. this being because of the vita’s d-pad which feels like it was made with fighting games in mind cos it feels incredible.Plus the vita’s oled screen which for games like this makes it clearer and sharper.

        • Kris

I own BBCSE for both Vita and PS3. XD

I love the Vita’s d-pad too! I grew up playing GG on Dualshock (for some odd reason I could never wrap my head around the arcade stick controls), so I think that might actually be the way to go! (Should the Vita version be localized).

      • Solomon_Kano

I’m tempted to get both as well. I really want to play it on my PS3, but I fell in love with playing fighting games on my Vita once I played Darkstalkers on it. That d-pad!

        • Kris

Darkstalkers was the first fighter you played on your Vita too? XD

I like the cut of your jib!

          • Solomon_Kano

Aye! Seems we’re on the same page.

I’d get a Vita for this. And I’ll be getting the PS3 version, too. That’s what I call commitment.
