Dragon Quest X For Wii U Has Better Shadows, Same Content As Wii Version

By Spencer . September 21, 2012 . 8:20am

DQX_01Square Enix had a stage presentation where producer Yosuke Saito showed Dragon Quest X running on Wii U. While Dragon Quest X is an online game, the part Square Enix showed during Tokyo Game Show was not connected to the Nintendo Network.

Saito demonstrated how players can send the game graphics from the TV to the Wii U gamepad while you’re playing it. The Wii U version has been upgraded with HD graphics. One of the presenters pointed out the shadows in Dragon Quest X for Wii U show the shape of a character while the Wii shadows are just circles. (The screenshot is from the Wii version, which is currently out in Japan.)

Wii and Wii U players will be on the same Dragon Quest X server. Saito explained because of this the content for both versions of Dragon Quest X will be the same. You can transfer your character from the Wii version to the Wii U version. Dragon Quest X for Wii U will still have a monthly fee for Wii U.

When’s it coming out? Square Enix didn’t announce a date for Dragon Quest X on the Wii U or the Wii U beta test which comes as a bonus if you purchase the premium Wii U console.

why do a monthly fee when games like Monster Hunter 3 has done so well without the monthly fee? I won’t play this one even though im a huge DQ fan because of the fee…

    • Whoomp

DQX is an MMO, Monster Hunter is not. Big difference in server costs.

If I remember correctly MH3 did have a monthly fee in japan. I might be wrong though. If this game came out here it might be free to play or pay to play and I’d give it a shot either way.

3 has monthly payments in japan, around 800 Wii Points for 30 days, of course the payments were shelved in NA.

Do the poor bastards have to re buy the game in order to play it on the WiiU?

    •  Yes, they do; doesn’t seem like a worthwhile upgrade.

    • Tommy Lee

If they want an upgrade in graphics, I’d assume they do, but if not, the WiiU can play all Wii games including this one. I’d also assume that retailers will offer incentives to sell the game to the ones who do have the Wii version, such as trade-ins.

so its not in HD… and no voice chat

“The Wii U version has been upgraded with HD graphics”

Umm… they are in HD there.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

I forgot to put a Question mark lol thanx for the info

  • Nitraion

Wish this game just regular DQ game but oh well… its a shame

  • shane mitchell

    LOL, better shadows
it should look like the fmv at the begining of the game lol
    im not going to bother.

  • Shane Guidaboni

I would be interested in playing this if it came to NA and if I didn’t have to pay to play.

  • Lightthrower

Better shadows? That’s it? Are they joking?

The shadows were just given as an example. It’s safe to assume that you just read the title, then?

So basically, Dragon Quest X for the Wii U, is just like Twilight Princess.Expected yet still disappointing.

  • Just Tim

Since this game is Pay for Play, shouldn’t I expect bonus costumes from Akira Toriyama’s other works?  I mean, I’d love to have my char dress up as Crono with a scouter. xD

    • CirnoLakes

What about Dr. Slump? Dr. Slump never gets enough love. I’d like to see something of Arale make a cameo.

  • CirnoLakes

The title is kind of misleading, even though it shouldn’t mean anything to anyone other than just content. “Content” to many people means all the fix ups of HD. Hence why people are wondering if it is HD.

Though, even that it is in HD. I can’t help but think that being console only is going to severely limit the game.
