Mega Man Xover Is Mega Man On A Conveyor Belt

By Spencer . September 21, 2012 . 1:05am

As a concept, Mega Man Xover is interesting because it has a mishmash of Robot Masters from Mega Man’s history. The bad news is Mega Man Xover is barely like a Mega Man game.

You don’t really control Mega Man, he automatically runs right… and right into Mettons unless you shoot them. Mega Man can also blast the robot bats above by jumping and then shooting. You can charge shots, but in the Tokyo Game Show demo most enemies were defeated after one shot.

Storm Eagle from Mega Man X was waiting at the end of the level for me. Instead of an intense fight that tested a player’s reaction time, Mega Man Xover’s boss battles are… turn based.

I fired a shot. Storm Eagle retaliated with a dive attack. I fired another shot. Storm Eagle dove into Mega Man. Taking damage charges Mega Man’s buster and after three hits I could use a more powerful charge shot.

My reward for defeating Storm Eagle was a card and the demo ended after I collected it. Poor Mega Man. Capcom’s former mascot character deserves a better game than this for his 25th birthday.

I absolutely loved Megaman X Command mission (I’m a bit punchy at times) and even I wouldn’t touch this. This is rather unfortunate and disappointing :(

I get they wanna take revenge on Inafune, but why take it to the child in the divorce.

  • psycho_bandaid

I thought Capcom was one of the few companies that does not treat iOS like a dumping ground for bad games. Hopefully this is a one-off and not a trend for them since they do so well with the street fighter and phoenix wright ports.

    • Seizui

You seen the Megaman X and Megaman 2 iOS ports, right?

  • they should just remaster MM1-8 and MMX1-8 on PSN, make a ton of money.

the game should be called megaman your time is over now die

since this is what the game sounds like

  • Hm. Kinda brings a new meaning to the term “on-rail shooter”.

Jokes aside, auto-scrolling platformers aren’t really a new idea, and the formula has worked for various games in the past. Just… not sure if it compliments the MegaMan mechanics people are used to.

    • Godmars

Think the insulting bit are turn based boss battles.

      • It’s turn based? Hm. The impression I first got from the article was that the boss fight was “rhythmic”.

Wow I know this is Capcom and all but I think they might have just killed any good will they had left with Megaman fans. I get that is a Iphone game but at least before they let you play it normally even if the controls were bad(Megaman 2), so we know it was doingable this is just low even for them.

  • Shane Guidaboni

What is this? Who thought this was a good idea?

  • FFmax

Wow, even the author of that article sounds pissed. Jesus Christ Capcom, what are you doing? Just hand Megaman to someone else. Maybe they’ll treat him with better respect.

  • MrOrpheus

This is silly. I don’t think I need to do anything to qualify that statement.

  • Wha? you really spected something else? i saw the pics and my brain automaticly got the idea of a “Cell phone game” something not like megaman X. first i must say thats not megaman, is a new hero called over-1, second i must say there is a long time since capcom is killing megaman. for some reason they are… i dont know… i really dont have an answer to that. i agree with you in the point that megaman deserves more for his 25th b-day, but in the other hand if capcom became a maverick. i would be thankful that they dont make anymore megaman games. at least let it die with proud.

    • Godmars

The problem is that Megaman needs to be 2D, $10-$30 handheld or PSN/XBL titles, but Capcom wants $60 games. That means 3D/HD console titles. And like many Japanese devs they don’t really know what to do with the PS3 or XBox. Making HD games is just too resource heavy.

      • i dont know. you say they need to be 2D. most of last megaman games are 2D (including this one) no main (main console) game in years, and well you see..  it looks like capcom wants us to hate megaman. think what new kids future gamers will think when they remember this “Xover” game.

Edit: To me… is capcom the one that deserves to die for this. megaman should get rid of them once an for all.

        • Godmars

I thought it was a bad move to go back to the original series and series mechanics with MM9. After a ten year pause that more than anything said that they had run out of ideas despite it and MM10 being “good throwbacks.”

          •  in my point of view… if you are not going to make a good try/serious attempt in making a game, you better dont do anything. let the franchise die in glory. i liked megaman 9-10 pretty much… ok maybe they where not what i was specting (a full new game with cool new HD graphics and stuffs) but they made me feel how i felt wen i played those old nintendo MM games. and thats a good thing for me. i think that if those are not to be really main games are some kind of good tribute and a better way to celebrate megaman than this crappy smartphone games.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

    This is xover guys! xover!!

  • Palmer Nyako

    lmfao capcom.
They put out garbage and ask why their games sales don’t reach their expectations. What a waste of a good franchise.
I really hope this game is free.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Why are they still making this?! It looks awful. At lest make it look better.

    • Godmars

The sad thing is if this wasn’t being put out under the pretense of the anniversary it wouldn’t be a proper blip on anyone’s radar. As is its salt in the wound of two other canceled projects.

  • Göran Isacson

    All of my cries.

    Just… all of them.

  • Kaihedgie

And so the whining continues. Amazing how so many “loyal” fans are so quick to jump ship and declare death the instant something doesn’t get their approval

    • LynxAmali

I’d say complaining, not whining. Whining is more so annoying.

And let’s see; for the most part, it’s entirely justified. They took a premise that would’ve been an awesome game had it been pulled off well but take a guess? It wasn’t. It was a cheap excuse for an anniversary title.

Love how Capcom goes all out for other titles and yet let one of their more iconic ones drop in a game of questionable quality.

      • Kaihedgie

Even though this is the very first demo of the game and you’re already jumpin’ ship. Yes, that’s quite whining.

Entirely justified? Why do you act like this is the only single solitary thing they have planned for the 25th anniversay.

Tell me, what is Capcom suppose to with Mega Man that they haven’t already done and expect to sell a lot out of it, considering that the fanbase has been very fickle and picky to the point where it sounds like stagnation is encouraged rather than trying to venture into new territory. Fans may be making their own fangames in part of celebration, but just the same, they aren’t trying anything new either.

They’ve already exhausted every single outlet with the brand that they could and most didn’t work. RPGs are the only one that hardly hold any weight. Everything else fell under the radar.

They tried to please the “hardcore old school” crowd and that didn’t work, coming off across as trying to please an already jaded and increasingly niche crowd too picky be receptive of anything. MMHX may have been a universally received game, but the elimination of any chance of a sequel was too apparant, and yes, this is where Capcom can blame the fans: pirating is rampant with the PSP, so they didn’t get the sales they wanted. They tried more spinoff series to venture for new ideas but they didn’t sell nearly as well and there hasn’t been a single new console game for Mega Man since Command Mission. If that’s any indication, I’d say Mega Man’s been “dying” long before Inafune ever considered leaving Capcom. If I have to take guesses as to why Capcom is able to do what they’ve done with SF and RE, here they are:

Street Fighter effectively revitalized the fighting game genre. Sure, other fighting games were being constantly shelled out, but they weren’t reeling in new players the way IV did, plus there’s the crossovers.

As for Resident Evil, since 4, there has been an increasing amount of new fans jumping on to experience the franchise. The past two main entries were very successful, despite what some more vocal fans may tell you.

But Mega Man…where was he going these past seven years?

        • LynxAmali

          My point
          Your head

-Entirely justified? Why do you act like this is the only single solitary thing they have planned for the 25th anniversay.

-But Mega Man…where was he going these past seven years?

          Let’s see.
          Universe – Cancelled
          Online – Probably cancelled too.
          Legends 3 – Cancelled.
Operation Shooting Star- No release outside of Japan, despite having a perfectly usable BN1 translation that could be used.

-Street Fighter effectively revitalized the fighting game genre. Sure, other fighting games were being constantly shelled out, but they weren’t reeling in new players the way IV did, plus there’s the crossovers.

If by being milked more so than ever is ‘revitalizing’ the genre, Final Fantasy games would be the greatest RPGs ever.

          Also; lol.

You can so totally tell what a game is like by a demo. The fact that fans can make a better game like this than Capcom can will probably tell you something about how much effort was put into this.

If they were so adamant on an RPG, why not a quality game with actual promotion?

          • Kaihedgie

All he’s said was to keep expectations in check and calm down. They really didn’t promise you anything grand. I’m not seeing how that disproves my point.

          • LynxAmali

            You wrote the following.

“Entirely justified? Why do you act like this is the only single solitary thing they have planned for the 25th anniversay?”

The post in the thread said:
“No one has promised a game or even an announcement of one at that time. Please do keep expectations in check.”

          • Kaihedgie

And guess what, they didn’t even have to make this game, but they did anyway.

What makes you think I was talking about those games alone? Note when I said seven, not two. I’m talking about the various games that were released in that time that weren’t doing as well as the other franchises.

The milking came about because people wanted more out of Street Fighter IV, and that’s what they got, 10 whole new characters. But then they wanted even more, so that’s what they got with Arcade Edition. That’s what usually comes about in a game where people want more out of it. You really shouldn’t be calling out Street Fighter of being milked considering that’s exactly how Mega Man lingered on for this long.

Are fans trying anything new with the Mega Man brand? Are they garnering the kind of attention and hype Capcom needed? No? Then why should I care? Especially considering how the fans have behaved these past couple years what with their rampaging and tantrums being thrown about. All Mega Man fans have been doing these past couple years is rage incessantly at Capcom. There are far few who have attempted to talk reasonably with them and they’ve answered. Everyone else was too busy editing Wikipedia, posting rant videos and promoting and encouraging the practice of pirating and buying games used, plus I didn’t see anyone try to actually convince people not familiar with the franchise as to why Mega Man was so great so they could “understand their pain and anguish”.

If the company making your games has to tell you to keep your expectations in check, then there’s obviously a problem afoot here.

          • LynxAmali

-Are fans trying anything new with the Mega Man brand? Are they garnering the kind of attention and hype Capcom needed? No? Then why should I care?

If you don’t care, why are you still responding to me? Serious question.

And actually yes, fans have tried to innovate. Hell, I’ve seen FLASH games that look look better than this.

            – You really shouldn’t be calling out Street Fighter of being milked considering that’s exactly how Mega Man lingered on for this long.

What is Star Force, Battle Network, Battle Chip Challenge, X, Command Mission, Legends and Classic?

Some of these completely change the formula by the way and aren’t just don’t have a different skin.

I’m dropping this crappy argument here.

          • Kaihedgie

You aren’t one of the people making those games, are you?

“Star Force, Battle Network, Battle Chip Challenge, X, Command Mission, Legends and Classic” I would call that milking. How bad is it that you constantly have to splinter off your series into so many sub-series just to keep it going because people were growing tired of it?

          • LynxAmali

” I would call that milking. How bad is it that you constantly have to splinter off your series into so many sub-series just to keep it going because people were growing tired of it?

            -Tired of it
Not that you don’t want to try something different?

You could use that argument for any long running video game series, according to your logic.

        • >Tell me, what is Capcom suppose to with Mega Man that they haven’t already done

Well, for one, NOT cancel 2 (highly) anticipated games, one of them a sequel people have been waiting for over 10 years, and then blame the fans for the cancellation of the game in addition to actually give the IP to Comcept since Capcom seems to think that Megaman is no longer their mascot? Or not tell the fans that the (paid) demo they’ve been waiting for will determine whether Legends 3 is really a feasible project and then not giving fans said demo on top of telling them that the project is not feasible at all, period? Or not cancelling the previously mentioned 2 games immediately not too long after the creator left? Or celebrate his anniversary as a mascot character should have like how Mario and Sonic had theirs instead of yet another spinoff that they claimed “was too much”?

I ask you: MarvelousAQL, Comcept and I think one more company all offered to FINISH Legends 3 for Capcom, iirc out of goodwill and passion in the case of Comcept. Capcom only need publish the game. What does Capcom have to lose? Why are they not taking up the offer?

          • Kaihedgie

When Legends 3 was first unveiled, along with a tech demo, Volnutt wasn’t even in a playable form, quite the turn off for some people as as far as games go for Capcom, we all know the kind of response that comes up. As for Universe…how many people cared about Universe? When cancellation topics are brought up concerning Capcom, that game is strangely left out. Didn’t see a whole lot of people hyped about that either.

You are aware the project wasn’t even greenlit, right, so what’s the point.

Why aren’t they taking up the offer? I would have to imagine all of the whining and complaining about the series not being “true to its roots” ever since the derivative spinoffs started popping up. You can’t possibly tell me the Mega Man fanbase was entirely fine with the Battle Network and Star Force series or how Mega and X were being replaced with the real star of the series, Zero or Mega Men that served as their successors as well as the card game-esque iterations.

          • >When Legends 3 was first unveiled, along with a tech demo, Volnutt wasn’t even in a playable form, quite the turn off for some people as as far as games go for Capcom

Considering for storyline-related reasons, it kinda be pretty obvious why Trigger wasnt playable. After all, one of the story of Legends 3 was supposed to realte to getting Trigger OFF THE MOON.
For Trigger not being playable and giving us Barret? That I cant comment. Then again, since when has Capcom listened to what I’m assuming to be minorities?

            >You are aware the project wasn’t even greenlit, right, so what’s the point

Which is why I say it’s kinda odd decision for Capcom. The demo was supposed to be a proof to allow the project to be greenlighted in the first place. It’s a chicken and egg situation really. Because the project was not greenlighted, Capcom wont released the demo. But Capcom wont release the demo in the first place, which was supposed to help the project get the greenlight. They literally never gave a chance to see if the project is feasible at all!

And then they cancel both it and Universe not too long after Inafune left, leaving to alot of theories that they’re doing it just to spite Inafune for leaving.

And then, despite still claiming Megaman as their mascot, has Ryu pop up in more games this year than Megaman. And let’s not get started on the exclusion of Megaman/X in the Ultimate MvC3 games despite them being amongst Top 3 voted Most Wanted during a voting session while Strider(or was it Firebrand) got in despite being “not feasible”(or even in the voting list for that matter iirc) in the original MvC3!

Are you still going to defend Capcom for their actions?

            >can’t possibly tell me the Mega Man fanbase was entirely fine with the Battle Network and Star Force series

StarForce, I’m not so sure(I kinda liked the first one though, tbqh though it’s the only one I’ve played)

BN….shall I send you to the dozen of so fansites dedicated to the series, as well as the Undernet’s attempt at creating a “BN7” before that fell?

            >how Mega and X were being replaced with the real star of the series, Zero

I’m sure you’ve heard the story multiple times about how Zero was meant to be the hero of the X series until Capcom prefer a more classic design to the original Mega.
In a sense, it’s to be expected. Even Capcom themselves semi-acknowledge it when MEGAMAN X7 was released and MEGAMAN X is not playable from the start.

            >or Mega Men that served as their successors

I got nothing on this. The ZX games are apparently a love-it-hate-it games.

            >as well as the card game-esque iterations.

            Uh…what card games?

    • SLick123456789111

Mega-Man died the minute Inafune left Capcom.
MM fans who have yet to realize this are the ones who are taking this more seriously than they should be.

This is how Kenzo rolls. You walk out on him , your IP gets Busted.
      Pun entirely intended.

      • Kaihedgie

Didn’t DMC technically die when Kamiya only did the first DMC game and stop there? Or, in an anime example, Gundam?

I dunno. I’m not the kind of person who says things are “dead/dying/whatever”, but I would have to imagine it started somewhere when Mega Man wasn’t being sold on consoles anymore and when fans whined about MM9 and 10, the very same games pandered to them.

        • Luna Kazemaru

Lol Wait when did Gundam die? This is new to me.

          • Kaihedgie

Well, that’s according to the UC portion of the fanbase. Tomino only wrote the UC series and Turn A, which is suppose to bring all of the series together. The alternate universe series were however made by other people.

          • Luna Kazemaru

Don’t ever pay any mind to UC fanboy’s.

          • ForteWily

I would not really go saying that honestly, the UC fan-base has a very vocal minority.

          • kaimonorukia

            When CLAMP got involved?

        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Even though one of the most profitable Gundam is Gundam Seed which is not done by Tomino?

          • Kaihedgie

             Even moreso XD

Apparently SEED to these people are an affront, Destiny even moreso since it’s suppose to be the modernized Zeta Gundam. They didn’t like the fact that their “manly” and “mature” characters with super psychic necromancy powers were being upstaged by genuinely good pilots born from test tubes.

          • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Well, i love Gundam Seed there but i can not actually stand Destiny there.T_T I mean, when Kira come out and steal the spotlight, it is like giving Zeta spot light from Kamille to his opponent like Haman there.

Well, at least the M.S is nice there.^_^

    • Herok♞

No Loyal fans jump ship when a series has 2 games, one being highly anticipated with fan input canceled and then instead get a IOS spinoff that doesn’t even try to play like a normal game in the series for the 25th anniversary.

      • Kaihedgie

I recall Square Enix doin’ a fighting game for their anniversary and yet no one cried then :U

Yes, two games, one of which isn’t even worth mentioning for some reason and another that was not only never greenlit but had a demo that didn’t even show Volnutt.

        • Herok♞

2 things about that, square did a fighting game but 1 that was good and this clearly isn’t and 2 they still have normal final fantasy games coming out unlike this where no normal megaman games are coming out.

The thing with legends 3 was yes it had a demo but we never got it, even thought it was the thing that was going to indicate whether or not fan interest was high enough to get the game and of course Volnutt didn’t show up, last time I checked he was still on the moon and they were building a ship to get him off. Also nothing was wrong with universe there was just no need to mention it

          • Kaihedgie

Except that when Dissidia was first revealed, again, no one was whining

Obviously there exists a problem if you never mention it at all when it comes to cancelled games.

Okay? The Enders Project showed Anubis despite the fact that it was kinda bifurcated and blown up at the end of the 2nd Runner.

I know for a fact back then that if this was shown when Mega Man games were being shelled out on an annual basis, people would be crying their heads off just because the first thing they didn’t see was Volnutt.

          • Herok♞

Well the reasonable fans wouldn’t be complaining about this game because most of the arguments consist of they canceled good games but let this pass, if the games were still coming out or there was something decent on the way people would ignore it almost completely, I know for a fact I would, my response would be oh a bad ios game oh well time to get back to playing MML3 and waiting for Megaman subtitle to come out.

  • Jonathan Keycross

Well considering it is a touch game for smartphones I don´t think it´s bad. I like the graphics and I don´t see a problem with the overall simple plot. As a cheap iOS app I think it would fulfill that purpose.

But this is the kind of game you announce once your franchise gets enough recognition thanks to the latest entry on the market. It is not a game to create hype by itself at all.

A better step could´ve been a Megaman/X Anniversary Collection as they´ve already done before (with more games this time) and launch Xover without the “25th anniversary” stamp.

  • kevinposta

This is absolutely terrible… I hope Mega sees better days sometime in the future :(((
    What are you doing, Capcom?

  • You’re conflicting your earlier comment now.  Simple fact is Mega Man fans are justified in being upset about the current state of things.   I’m sure you’ve felt that same way before when you’ve had series you’ve liked done wrong or utterly mishandled for years.

    • Kaihedgie

Yes, I’m a fan of a few series that has had similar treatment and I’m also a fan of Mega Man, but you didn’t see me howling like crazy over it. I may have gotten a bit upset in some cases, but they never lasted and I sure as heck didn’t go making 20 minute videos about it either.

  • Putting aside that fact that the premise barely makes any sense (I somehow doubt iOS users are going to jump on this game, regardless of how simple and accessible it is), this just doesn’t look like a good game. The in game artwork just isn’t where it should be.

I don’t really see why anyone is jumping to defend this game, as it isn’t really an admirable effort in any way, regardless of whether you are a Megaman fan or not. It’s true that Capcom shouldn’t be trying to please their fanbase, but XOver isn’t going to please anybody. Why not make an actually fleshed out, NEW Megaman game, with NEW gameplay that will attract core players? Why not pull a Kid Icarus and drastically reinvent the third person shooter for a new Megaman title? Make it collectible! Online cross play! Customizable Megamen!

If a new Megaman franchise debuted with art and gameplay similiar to E.X. Trooper and a gimmick like Battle Network, I would buy it day one, regardless of whether I was a fan or not. Make a new game that is actually relevant to the modern gaming atmosphere, and players, regardless of their previous feelings for Megaman, will be attracted.

    • Tony F.

NEW Megaman? Well, according to Svenson…

“I (and probably I alone so please don’t ascribe said belief to “Capcom”) think one of the problems MM has had as a brand is that we’ve had too many competing splinter sub-brands within it. I’m not sure starting yet another is the way to get the franchise as a whole back on track more than creating greater brand confusion but we’ll take it under advisement.”

      •  Yeah, I remember that, and even then I thought he was kind of full of it. Those sub series were the only things that were keeping the franchise even remotely relevant. Plus, it’s not like many of them even overlapped, so the logic doesn’t really make any sense. Reboots, when done right, WORK. Look at Lords of Shadow. Hugely different take on Castlevania, but most definitely the most well received game in the franchise for years.

Also, where is the danger of brand confusion when there aren’t any other games?  It’s not like a new Megaman would distract consumers from the multiple other Megaman games Capcom isn’t making.

You mean Lords of Shadow of the Collossus?

  • Wow, now he really is “JUMP AN’ SHOOT MAN”.

Oh hey Megaman, what you going to do after this? “Oh i dunno, run to the right a little and then JUMP AN’ SHOOT”.
Delicious Egoraptor quotes aside, this looks really horrendous. = Obvious cash grab off fans much, Capcom?

    •  Can’t really call it a cash grab off fans, since I don’t think there is a fan in the world that is happy with it.

    A Mega-Man article ~
Time to bust out my bag of BBQ Lays.

    • Kaihedgie

       Never had those before :U

      • SLick123456789111

        You should try them :D
Their only 99¢. for a small bag.
        Large Bags are around 1.99.
If you mean Lays in general , I say you look at Sour Cream’n Onion , BBQ or The Regular Yellow bag. Those are my favorites lol.
I’d stay away from the Salt & Vinegar bag tho.

        (I’m a snacker.)

        • Kaihedgie

Not quite a Lays guy. I’m more for Utz, but I’ll be on the lookout for ’em.

          •  The sad part is that this conversation about chips is actually more enjoyable than this new Mega Man “game”.

        • Godmars

Hate to be a grammar Nazi – especially knowing this I still do it, but its not “their” its “They’re” or “They are.” By using “their” you’re saying a small bag of potato chips has $0.99.

        • ThatBlackGuy

oh god the horrible memories of eating salt and vinegar and not having a drink nearby.

        • ShinStar

           Hey, I like the Salt & Vinegar flavor! ;___;

          …does anybody else like it?

  • I think the only right thing in this game is the over part :C

  • James Christie

WOOOOOOOW…..I thought this was a fan made app..good going capcom…

I love me some Mega Man, I’ve played every single Mega Man game (available on handhelds and home consoles), and to me, this is not a Mega Man game. I hate to say it, but Mega Man is dead. He died when Inafune left Capcom. R.I.P. my childhood friend, you will always be remembered as one of the best video game characters ever made.

  • Capcom apparently wants to bury Megaman underneath a pile of Shovelware rubble.

    • FFmax

Nope, Megaman has already been buried, they’re is just taking a piss on his grave now.

  • FFmax

I find it hard to believe that they weren’t spiting Inafune the whole time he left.

  • Just Tim

Geez, Capcom, just because #AmericansAreNecroForZombies (read: obsession towards zombies, to the point Capcom will switch its mascot from Classic Mega Man to Nemesis), it doesn’t give you the right to ruin Mega Man like this.

  • Ace

Great to see a brutally honest review of a demo.

  • It´s sad when there are some fan games that are more awesome than this thing :/

    • Christopher Nunes

Mega Man X Corrupted comes to mind. That is an AWESOME fan-game, and Capcom really needs to arrive that guy to make MM games for them! He knows how to make an excellent one!

  • British_Otaku

Huh? I heard that people didn’t like the idea of this game.
Fair enough as Legends 3 was cancelled on the worst terms possible, there is barely any MM(X) representation (overweight MM didn’t help) in recent crossovers and there are many series we would like to see continued…

This doesn’t sound like it has potential at all…
On rails 2D Megaman with limited charged shots and time based gameplay.
We’ll see, or not seeing as it is iOS only for now… >_>

  • chalkcl

    *takes breath*

  • dahuuuundge

Just let Megaman die in peace instead of defiling his robo-corpse with this abomination.

  • Hau To

To me, this title already told me megaman is over. x being a silly form of “is.” Megaman X over. (Megaman “is” over.)

  • Josh Strange

  • Etopen

I wish they would just sell the IP to some company that makes actual games.

  • Kris

I usually try to be positive about things, but…
    Goddamn. This hurts.

  • ZEROthefirst

Come on Capcom, sell Megaman off to Keiji Inafune. At least he’ll be able to salvage it or give Megaman a proper burial.

  • LaserVision

You know, as I’m reading this article I’m getting ads for MegaMan X Collection, the Mega Man Collection and the Mega Man Zero Collection. These games have been out for quite some time. I have ask: “Where do they go from here to celebrate the 25th Anniversary?” I think asking this question might prompt better discussion than the generic Capcom bashing comments. What Capcom did sucks. I literally have no idea why people feel the need to say it 106+ times.

    • Kris

To be honest, I think that a game with the same concepts  Xover could be fantastic for the 25th anniversary. I mean, the idea of a game where each player is given a fully customizable Mega Man in a 2D side-scroller would be awesome. While it might be a challenge to balance the abilities you’d have (would the base be MMX, since that’s inspired Zero and ZX, or would it be focused around the less frenetic platforming of classic?), I’d love to see something like that.

To be honest, Over-1’s design (given the promises of customizability) doesn’t bother me, I guess I’m okay with fur collars! XD I just wish we could get something that seems more like the Mega Man we know and love.

Man, thinking about it now, it would be interesting if a game had a collection of classic bosses (and the skills that come), could find a ton of capsules with elements of different forms from ZX and some of the crazier stuff from the X series (X3’s double air dash, for instance). They could even incorporate battle chips as single-use pickups at points too.

But my dreaming is just dreaming. As for what Capcom could do for the 25th… I was kinda holding out for a new series, one that did for the X series what the X series did for the original (I’m not the biggest fan of the Zero or ZX series), but Sven’s since said that we won’t see a new series for the next thing, IIRC.

If they do a new collection, I hope they pack it with bonus stuff. I own both of the previously released (in the US) collections, I’d like to see the bonus stuff pushed even further. Documentaries and stuff!

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. What would you like to see?

      • LaserVision

I think a game where you could play as any Mega Man would be cool. I think Xover might’ve been kinda trying to tie all the games together, but yeah, everything they’ve shown looks awful. Doubtful it’ll happen but whatever. There’s other games to be played. *Shrugs*

        • Kris

I actually think that that might be the source of some peoples’ frustrations with Xover, too. Conceptually, it could be a brilliant platformer. In reality, it seems to leave a lot to be desired.

Still, I’m open to being surprised, and Capcom seems to be listening to fan feedback of late (at least in terms of various mechanical tweaks given to RE6 and DmC), so maybe there might be more to it than meets the eye? …at least I hope so.

      • colorblindnightmare

I have to admit i like your idea. Frankly ii would do something similar to what capcom is doing in the sense of tieing them all together. I ,mean the concept of Zero with his future self and seeing each opther’s different styles would be freaking sweet. (Zero fan boy if you couldn’t guess) but i really hope they either give the bluebomber their proper burial or give him a true rebirth with amazing games.

  • with a big name like this, and a huge should be easy to make a great game?

    1. You know what the fans want.
    2. You know what sold in the past.
    3. …just do it?

O_O its like some companies are just trying to see what they can get away with.

    more mobile games?
why do i feel like i just got kicked in my chest

  • Christopher Nunes

I’ve been a fan of Mega Man since the X series, since that was the first Mega Man series I’ve played and I’ve played MMX1 over and over again because I loved it and was an awesome game and continue to buy all the overs, including the BN games (except for a few), all three Shooting Star games, all of the ZX games (which are my favorite ones), currently have Legends 1 (getting Legends 2 will be hard), all of the Zero games including the Zero Collection.

However, seeing this… it pains me as a fan. The idea has potential, but they executed it poorly. It they wanted to go with a turn-based route, they could’ve made a more detailed RPG system with customizing and leveling up your character, like Command Mission (which I have and love), and it would’ve made it a better iOS game.

But I dislike games on my phone as I prefer handheld devices, and phones should be that just phone with some games like “Snake” on it.

I mean… I’m still hoping that Mega Man will somehow pull itself from the hole that Capcom has dig for him, but it’s just sad to see. Come on Capcom! Remember how amazing Mega Man was in the past, but keep it up-to-date with the modern times! Mega Man still has potential! I’m never giving up on him!

  • “Hey megaman, what are you doing?”
“Oh, nothing, I’m just jumpin’ and shootin'”
“Well what are you gonna do now?”
“Im gonna run right and then I’m gonna…JUMPNSHOOT!”
But seriously, this sucks on ice.

  • Compton Boodhoo

I was a fan since the X series as well and they hold a special place for me since the SNES was my first system, anyway This is terrible I mean really bad. I feel like when a game like this is made , it’s because they gave up on this character and considering the amount of Megaman Games we’ve had , I feel like it’s true.
Megaman is such a great game series but you need control(reaction time) jumping , dashing and of course shooting oh and stealing boss abilities, that is what makes Megaman unique. I fucking hate this, sorry.
