Red Arremer Doesn’t Stand A Chance Against Akira Yuki

By Spencer . September 27, 2012 . 3:01am

Namco Bandai is counting down to the release of Project X Zone with gameplay clips. This one shows the Tekken team, Jin & Xiaoyu, and the Virtua Fighter team, Akira & Pai. Fighting Red Arremers shouldn’t be a problem. Juri, on the other hand, looks like trouble.

Project X Zone comes out on October 11 for Nintendo 3DS.

This game looks like a lot of fun, I really like seeing those crazy combos.

  • Hines Green III

Red was 10 years too early!!!

Typical RPG tropes. Push one button, lean back and watch an elaborate animation of action you would be in full control of in a genre with better gameplay design tropes.

And here people criticize mobage and social games for having their “gameplay” isolated to players clicking on things every once in a while.

What do you gentlemen think menu based RPG’s have been playing like since the early 80’s?

I think I’ll continue to throw in my with From Software and their Soul series. There is a true RPG with actual gameplay if ever I saw one.

    • There is a difference between SRPG and ARPG mortal.

Perhaps I should suggest a no items, no upgraded armor and weapons, only base equips for you challenge run. DO IT.

    • Tales_of_Master

Yeah, because in SRPGs there is no strategy involved whatsoever, no team building, no character customization, and no need to build your teams and placing them strategically. It’s just clicking one button and then watching the end credit. How couldn’t I see that before ?

Thank you sir for showing me the error of my ways :D You’re so cool :)

Both are ‘actual gameplay’, just different styles. Menu-driven combat tends to focus more on micromanagement and working a particular strategy within a set of strict rules, where as real-time systems are much more dynamic, forcing players to think on their feet and react accordingly.

Some folks prefer one or the other, while others like myself enjoy both.

Considering the appropriate units, character positioning and terrain in Tactics Ogre, managing a group’s HP/MP/buffs in Final Fantasy, manipulating turn order and enemy placement in Radiant Historia, learning the behavior of every enemy or familiarizing myself with the feel of each weapon in Demon’s Souls, etc.

      It’s all good.

As has already been noted, we are indeed simply talking two different styles — one is your cup of tea, the other isn’t.

Tabletop RPGs (one of the genesis points for any computer/console RPG) started when groups of dudes wanted to ‘tell a story’ about the cardboard or lead representing military units they were pushing around a map. From there, those same dudes moved to ‘dungeon crawls’ and a genre was born.

Others here have already detailed how such a style can be just as involving as rapidly hitting buttons. Next time, let’s just agree to leave things at that.

Clearly you have never played starcraft, while not being truly an RPG its point and click combat has more depth than demon/dark souls ever will. besides Monster Hunter > Dark Souls IMO

  • Tales_of_Master

My Two most favorite genres are represented in this game, Fighting and RPG. Thinking about how much I would’ve enjoyed this game is excruciating, but I still have faith in Namco. Ryu’s theme never sounded better, and am I crazy or is that a Megaman X music mixed in with Ryu’s theme ? Hearing Jin’s theme from Tekken 3 was a blast. The nostalgia factor is strong in this one :D All I can do now is put my hand together and pray that this game will see the light of day in the U.S.

Wait until it goes UMvC3 on yours behind…

  • IshimaruKaito

cant wait to see how this sells in japan

  • Tom_Phoenix

I wonder if Red Arremer Joker will make an appearance in this game as well. He was probably one of the best villains in Namco x Capcom.

  • OatMatadoQuatro

What is wrong with Jin’s dialogue in the beginning? Did he forget something important?
