Time And Eternity’s Battle System Lets You Customize Battle Commands

Imageepoch is finally releasing more details about Time and Eternity: Toki Towa’s battle system. Players can assign three skills to the triangle, cross, and square buttons on the DualShock 3 controller. Of course, you’ll learn more skills as you progress through Time and Eternity.

Enemies have their own skills and Toki/Towa have to watch movements to dodge. It isn’t clear how you can trigger Princess Toki’s dodge maneuver, though.

        Whatever they want to call it, stuff like that sadly only reinforces the absolute ‘paint by numbers’ aura this game continues to give off. Now less than two weeks out and they do little more than advertise to the audience that likely long had it reserved.

           I know, and the sad thing is, the game proper, looks likely to be one of Imageepoch’s best, and yet most of what we’ve seen has been the fanservicey crap that’ll take up maybe 2% of the entire game.  But hey, at least the rest of the game looks nice (barring that choppy as all heck animation and all).

            But the cut scenes seem more knockoff 80s-90s anime than the homage to the time Bravely Default is working on. Even compared to say God and Fate, there is little reason to believe these tropes will be used to do anything but tell a very tropey story. Maybe we will be proven wrong, and since this is at the moment a JP-only release, there is no reason for the developers or publishers to be aware of the ‘mixed’ western interest.

      Sadly, by all counts of certain anime news sites, all of the current popular anime is nothing but hard core porn.

      Come to think of it most JRPGs aren’t light on the ecchi either. Which brings us back to this game.

       Then why dont you just wait for the basically confirmed western release thats supposed to happen next year.  The CEO of Imaagepoch has been putting out hints for months now that it’s happening next year in the west.  The only thing we dont have now is an official press release and publisher info.

         Because I want to own the Japanese collectors edition. I kind of like collecting games like these. Yeah, it’s a dumb reason, I know. I won’t actually play it until we either get a western release or until I actually learn Japanese. I do plan on learning the language though.

           Oh, understood, the CE for this game is fantastic and would itch my collectors bone too, if I could read and understand Japanese.  That CE looks really nice (specially DAT ARTBOOK), and I hope that Nis is the one to localize the game, and if they are, we may actually have a chance of getting the same CE (barring the drama CD).

  • It’s kind of strange how this game has gone from barely registering on my radar to a game that I’m counting down the days til release.

    With cleaned up and additional frame sprite animations and what sounds like a fun and clean battle system, my only concern left about this being a fun game is the story.  Still sounds a little wishy-washy.

      As an example, is that to say you won’t enjoy a game because of its story despite having a fun battle system?

      • Oh I’ll be playing if it’s fun, for sure.  I’m fairly used to dealing with the vaguely half-baked JRPG stories, this just seemed like a chance for the developers to do something really cool.

        I’ve got my fingers crossed though that this “split personality girl goes on time travelling adventure to save her dream husband” story turns out to be more interesting than my pessimistic intuition indicates.

        Definitely a day one purchase in any case based on this battle system alone though.

    Definitely looking better than the first gameplay video. But even if it didn’t, I would still get it, an anime jprg is really something to look forward to.

    Huh, so the battle system is kind of like what they use in Neptunia? X is cancel, every other button is an attack of some sort that you can customize? I can’t really decide what I think abotu that system- on the one hand it feels faster and a bit more involving than JUST pressing the square button to choose an option, but on the other hand that games combat felt a bit bland after a while- because of the limited number of commands you can take into battle, most of the commands weren’t really SPECIAL or unique. In the end you pretty much just loaded up the best commands and spammed them all the time. It feels like you’re making a trade-off. Either have a ton of varied attacks/spells and trawl around in a menu, or have fewer commands which execute faster, yet have less variety. Anyone else who feels the same?
