Paper Mario: Sticker Star – Finally, A Game Where You Can Summon A Giant Fan

By Spencer . October 4, 2012 . 1:12pm

If Bravely Default can have a fire-breathing train and an airplane that changes into a bird as a summon, Paper Mario: Sticker Star can have a gigantic table fan.

Stickers are attacks in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Peel off a giant shoe and you can make Mario jump. Mario also has his hammer smash attack, Fire Flowers, and it looks like there’s an Ice Flower too. You can rearrange stickers using a Resident Evil 4 style inventory system. Stronger attacks like the fan summon take up more space than a jump shoe.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star comes out on November 11 for Nintendo 3DS.

What I want to know is do you have to go around recollecting stickers when you use them?

Or is it similar to, off the top of my head, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, a deck system?

    I miss having partners….

Calling it now, they replaced partners with summons.

      Expect it!

I really want this game. It’s been awhile since I played a Paper Mario game. I will miss the partner aspect though.

hmm, unlike Bravely Default; the more i see of Sticker Star, the less I like of it. . .

Right off the bat, they are not holding back with the sticker gimmick; which could either be a good or bad thing, depending on how quickly it gets old. Super Paper Mario’s 3D sections were aggravating to control and were really annoying, topped with the really bad choices. I’m starting to think this game wasn’t meant to be like TTYD or the first, since they seem pretty sold on kicking out the partners in exchange for. . . well, things.

In SPM it was Pixels, and in this game it will be Stickers. . . I dunno, it just loses some of the character when you remove. . . characters.

Lack of partners still has me really bummed. I mean, I’m sure it’ll still be great, but I’ll miss them.

Don’t know if want. The whole system with ripping stuff out and then sticking it back in looks like it can make for some pretty annoying fetch quests, and the fact that it looks like each separate sticker is one attack feels restrictive to me. Not that impressed with this trailer, I must say.

Geez. New Super Mario Bros. does the same thing each game, people call rehash. Paper Mario wildly shakes things up while keeping the base RPG gameplay, people call they changed it, now it sucks.

Do we gamers even know what we want?
