PSP Dungeon Crawler Elminage Original Heading Overseas

image305I didn’t think it would happen, but a game in Starfish’s dungeon crawler series Elminage is being localized. UFO Interactive picked up Elminage Original, the first game in the series. Here’s a bunch of screenshots and how UFO Interactive describes it:

In the world of Elminage Original, six rings harbor the powers of the gods. The world has been protected by a barrier created by 5 of the rings since before anyone remembers. When a dark priestess shatters the barrier and scatters the rings, the once peaceful world is now threatened by the dark creatures emerging as the barrier fades. Word spread among adventurers that a monumental reward was in store for the ones that can gather all the rings and call forth the barrier once again. So the adventure begins…

Elminage Original is a remake of the first game in the series, which Starfish released for PlayStation 2 in 2008. The game has 12 typical fantasy races, 16 classes, and a feature that lets players customize their character icons by loading images from a memory card. In Japan, players made Street Fighter and Etrian Odyssey parties for Elminage III.

  • The Japanese cover looks awesome, hope the new one has a similar tone.

  • That doesn’t really scream more than ‘generic dungeon crawler with classes’ to me sans the image loading.

Anyone play the original back on the PS2?  I need some selling points.

  • Great news, but is there any word on a release date or did I miss that in the article?

    •  If this is anything like Ultimate Shooting Collection, expect to wait between 12 to 18 months for your next news update.

Posting this since the article doesn’t mention it: UFO publishes in both NA and EU. Not sure where they’re releasing this, though.

    • landlock

UFO only releases digital in EU but not at retail it should be noted. Though this is most likely a digital release.

      • Lightthrower

What? Noooooo! We can’t buy digital EU games on the Vita o_O

        • landlock

Why? There’s a fine selection of PSP titles on the Vita ready to be downloaded including stuff like Corpse Party. I’m guessing there releasing this partly because you’ll be able to download it on the Vita as well as the PSP.

          • Lightthrower

Hmmmm I think you didn’t understand what I was trying to say. I’m saying that as having a NA Vita, I won’t be able to buy Elminage because it will be on the PAL store, not the NA one. Vita is region locked for the stores sadly… unless you do the memory card trick which I won’t.

  • Alex Cattaneo

    Great! hopefully on dics

  • Budgiecat

What the hell. Never in a million years would I expect this game to localized. And now of all times due to the PSP’s current condition in the West. Thats crazy

  •  i dont think its a good choice for them, in terms of making money, but its brilliant that they did!
i love dungeon crawlers, and will buy to support.

  • Z3

Wow, I also hope they localise the new one thats set in feudal japan

  • Shiki

    Unexpected! O.0
    I gotta say that’s .. risky ? .. yeah!
But i’m amazed and thankful , especially if they’ll release it in a physical form
And i don’t know how well the selling will go , but i wish them good luck , and day one buy for me :)

  • I”m okay with this.  I’m totally gonna get my Pleinair, King of Cosmos and Julius Belmont pictures ready.

  • cj_iwakura

Fantastic news. And this game has god-tier artwork.

  • Oh, wow. Considering the DS games never came, I thought this series would never reach the West. A nice surprise!

  • Kenny Akinde

  • Hm… interesting…

  • Foryth

Sweet!  I’m a big fan of first person dungeon crawlers and I really wasn’t expecting this!  I’ve been wanting to play this series since I first saw screens of the PS2 game.

  • Hinataharem

Why have I never heard of this gem.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

I really love Elminage here and i am sure going to get this game but, i feel that this is a very strange and……. not a very good moves here.

Hope that this game will sell well enough to bring some profit to the company here.T_T Considering if i am not mistaken, Growlancer does not sell really good there even though it had a brand power there.T_T
